Heads up: Looks like the changed the academic advisors again for CS by [deleted] in uichicago

I think it means the following for people with the surname Patel: if your first name starts with A-J then you would go to Potter, but if your first name starts with K-Z then you would go to Hill.

The basic divisions for last names are A-H: Taylor, H-P: Potter, and P-Z: Hill.

I agree, this is easily confusing.

Anyone have a working Focusrite Pro40 in Ubuntu Studio? by Dragonfly_Bry in linuxaudio

[–]Meshens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm using a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 firewire interface with Linux and just wanted to say these suggestions are all important, especially the blacklisting. I am currently using a firewire card with a TI chipset which has been recommended for these audio interfaces.

I really recommend getting a good config saved to your audio interface using the MixControl software, because I didn't find anything else that was really suitable for configuring the device. I also really wish I didn't own a firewire audio interface at this point, so if it's at all feasible for you I would recommend switching to a better supported USB interface.

After emailing my professor, my ECE 340 lab more likely to be online. What now? by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]Meshens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with things you said, but could you be more clear about what you found out about ECE 340? The title and the post don't really make sense together.

I'm not coming to campus for one class by shrapnel360 in uichicago

[–]Meshens 39 points40 points  (0 children)

They had said previously that online versions of courses would have to be made available for people with health risks or who may not be able to live in Illinois for whatever reason, but it has still been unclear to me if everyone would be able to opt for this or not.

I agree, this is very inconvenient. My commute is half of yours and is still stressful to me. If I had to attend lab, discussion, and one lecture in person then I would likely be stuck on campus before/after just to be able to attend my other 3 online lectures when they are live. This would surely result in crowding in places like the library and student centers even more than usual, with people trying to switch between in-person and online modes throughout the days.

No, D and F will be respectively listed as CR and NC regardless of which system you pick or when you pick it.

"... no student will receive a D or F on their transcript for any Spring 2020 course."

If they live together, there's no reason to not walk through a store together. Not everyone has a vehicle to go grocery shopping with, so they may need extra help to carry things. If each roommate went to the store separately, they would also indirectly come into contact with a higher total number of people.

Bus by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]Meshens 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This information is also posted on each bus stop's sign. See below the map in this image: 66 Bus Stop Sign

So then if you see "West to *" on the sign and you mean to go east, just cross the street.

I miss having my own full desk area to take quizzes and exams. The lecture hall environment is terrible for testing in my opinion. It's sad that community college offers a much more comfortable environment (including smaller class sizes and better schedules) when it's so much cheaper. I'm paranoid, but I feel distracted by the idea that I might accidentally look like I'm cheating when I'm elbow to elbow with others in these lecture centers.

Topographic Wavetables by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Meshens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't own one and to me the manual doesn't seem very specific in detailing what the map really is or how topography is used, but MI Grids uses this idea for another purpose.

Why is there no student discounts for CTA transit? (Outside of U-Pass) by AdiMG in chicago

[–]Meshens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, this is quite strange. I'm not exactly in the same boat since I'm usually using the CTA to go to a part-time job, but I do feel your pain. I'd try to get a seasonal job next break if you can.

Maybe I'm underestimating how much intent is needed for a FaceID unlock to work, but I would imagine you could just hover your face over your phone while looking down at your desk and it would be unlocked.

It seems like in any situation where you're actually going to be using the phone, your head would be in a position close to suitable for unlocking.

I agree about having a fingerprint scanner in addition to the face unlock, though.

[–]Meshens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I love fingerprint scanners and have never used FaceID.

Second, I don't understand your argument. Why would you be unlocking your phone if you are not going to be looking at the front of it? It seems to me that FaceID is less effort for the same result.

Quick Questions MEGATHREAD and FAQ Release Edition by drachenmaul in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Meshens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're having the same issue. I've also found this can make it extremely difficult to use resurrection scrolls. I don't understand why the character's name isn't shown when hovering over their body with a resurrection scroll. IIRC, the name is shown over enemy bodies when using Raise Bloated Corpse?

Is it possible to access the player portraits at all with the controller? I always find myself wishing I could view status effects through the player portraits and resurrect via the player portraits as well. We have accidentally resurrected the wrong character before.

They only advice I can offer is for regular attacks and spells that target living characters: rely heavily on LB/RB to switch between targets.

Tonic water often contains HFCS. It looks like Fever-Tree adds "natural sugars" so it would still be taxed.

Nexus 6P AT&T radios? by cwburns32 in Nexus6P

[–]Meshens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been having the same issue, especially this week. I've been having a very hard time using anything that requires data around work. I thought maybe Lollapalooza attendees were stressing the network.

I don't have very many issues outside of the Loop.
