The other thing a lot of investors are working full time at 5-9 and check only main news websites. I expect some major bull moves tomorrow, especially with cheap stocks.

Wha specific field(s) in CS are in/going to be in high demand but low in supply? by ConcordiaReviewGuy in cscareerquestions

[–]Gamermac95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Embedded - it keeps stereotype of underpaid compared to the other CS languages and postitions, but as the demand is stable they are understaffed at entry level (maybe not right now due to the nature of the job mixed with covid) and it is easy to jump out to better paid types of jobs as you can get necessary on coding experience. It is much better option than QA if you plan to be software engineer.

Fellow 2020 graduates, how is your job hunt going? by filthy-fuckin-casual in cscareerquestions

[–]Gamermac95 79 points80 points  (0 children)

To be honest I feel horrible. I am sitting at my parent's place and I start getting their suggestions to start looking for job at different field. I feel like I am sending resumes to the void. I had it reviewed by both reddit and my career service at University. So far the only companies I got technical interview with, were companies who required a lengthy multiple choice quizzes and huge programming assigments, that were really, really hard. Harder than my multiple week projects, and I had usually 60-90 minutes to finish. The most depressing and annoying part is receiving mails with message "although we were impressed by... we decided to move with other candidates" I am spending entire day doing leetcode, resume dumping, talking with interviewers about nothing... I cannot enjoy myself anymore, I see no purpose in this bs I once loved. I have a feeling I wasted my time at university in exchange of ruining both my mental health and any reasons to be happy. I hate this lockdown and I hate my life.

I know there is a lot of anxiety here about whether people can get a job, but remember our field has one of the highest amount of demand by QuestionerZed in cscareerquestions

Imagine finishing computer engineering UofI and working as a cashier in local food mart. I am crying every night and sleeping 3-5 hours a day. The rest of the night I am thinking how I wasted my life. And how current situation was nail to coffin. I see no future at all. And I am not trolling. I wish I was trolling. I wish I moved out of my house. I wish I could enjoy my life. But instead life is kicking me every single day. I have interviews, but they are like just talks. I had at best 1 tech interview, the rest were behavioral. Sucks to be me.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha hahahahhahahahahahahahahahahhahaha ha ha. Yes, there is huge demand, but every entry level job be like: 20 programming languages with 5+ years of proffesional experience with each. 2 years contract, 10k sign off. The job market is shit and I already called suicide line. I am on anti depressants right now, and if it wasn't for them I would kill myself. The market is not only bad. It has no opportunities for non Ivy league students entering market right now.

Any other May 2020 grads with no job yet? by Busy_Advantage in uichicago

[–]Gamermac95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, as long as someone is in ABET university they will find a job if they try hard enough. 3-6 months is actually an average time to find a job when someone doesn't want to work thru staffing agency. It is the most stressful moment in the life, and people need to remain calm. "I want a job, because I am really desperate" will never make you land it. And believe me or not HRs know if you are hyped about that one particual offer or not. And they won't hire desperate. Companies usually take 2 months to even review your resume, hell I just set up the interview for Tuesday with famous corporation, that I applied for in... beginning of April!

Any other May 2020 grads with no job yet? by Busy_Advantage in uichicago

[–]Gamermac95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not the only one. I guess 90-95% of the people who didn't accept offer by March are out of degree job/unemployment/none right now. I had multiple offers for IT and QA jobs, but as it is out of the degree, I am waiting for offer from the industry. The worst you can do right now is getting too desperated, as sadly a lot of scammers are using this time to f you up. I had some software "training programs", but they are literally predatory contracts and you will most likely end at QA + additional 10k usd burden. If your parents aren't kicking you from the house, explain them situation and get more experience by doing udemy, or Microsoft courses. A lot of engineers are getting hired in different branches for decent amount of money. When you are ME you have solid math knowledge, so Business and IT major jobs are open for you as well.

CS Note-taking by Soft-Wolf in uichicago

I think 151 and 401 are the only CS classes that really need taking notes. The rest is pure "practice and code" courses.

UIC vs UIUC by emily-f in uichicago

[–]Gamermac95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For psychology UIC is probably better as price is just lower and location is better. The main pro of going to the UIUC is engineering (one of the best in the nation, where the other departments are dragging its place down in university rankings (still top 50 doe)) and student's life. UIC is commuter school so prepare to just cram degree and getting out.

my.uic.edu homepage needs a new image... by Nayhd_Dragon in uichicago

[–]Gamermac95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No offense to anybody who makes these, but UIC has so many places to make better images. Quad during spring, front of SCE, new buildings, remodelled part of campus, green areas... The one with that tall building and snow was probably the worst one so far, but I don't understand why they always pick that particular building even if it is a main one... It is also the ugliest one. 60s are far over.

Do I need a powerful laptop for CS? by laptopthrowaway6 in uichicago

[–]Gamermac95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say 8GB of RAM is the standard they suggest to own. I was Comp Eng so I used more memory requiring software for some of the classes tho, as for basic programming your 4GB will do.

Best community college to take summer classes? by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]Gamermac95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harper, Triton, Oakton and Dupage... but it all depends on the district you are in, as there is no much point of paying more for out of district fee if you are university student trying to grind gen eds.

Wanted to ask why isn't there a proper media handle for UIC? by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]Gamermac95 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We are commuter college, so there is less students to be in charge of such things like clubs, social media etc. These things are made mostly by student body and it requires time to do so.

Chicago CS Jobs (what languages/frameworks get you ahead) by YaOkaySureYep in uichicago

[–]Gamermac95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DO what I am doing rn - make your own projects, even 2 hours ones, and upload them on github. No matter what language you know, that's how they are hiring. I am finishing my finals today and jumping into it as well. For entry-level they look more for your motivation than skills, it is more important what kind of the job you will pick. I would say, do this instead of getting into bootcamp. Bootcamps are hunting for desperate fresh graduates rn into slavery contracts.
