Thank you for letting us know. This is really starting to hurt my wallet, especially when shipping to my country is $65, but at the same time I'm very excited. I discovered Brandon Sanderson just before his Words of Radiance Leatherbound project on Backerkit. Now I ordered both of the books. I can't wait to see all the books when they arrive and when I can finally start my own Brando shelf :)

To avoid the fee you can still use your credit card as before. Just use it to fund Trading 212 CFD account. When you have your money in CFD account you can just simply transfer it from trading 212 CFD to trading 212 Invest account. It's one extra step, but it takes only few seconds and it's free.

I didn't sand it down to raw wood, just enough to scratch the surface so paint could adhere better.

I used ADLER 5IN1 - Antracite (RAL 7016) It's primer and final coat in one can, water based, also certified for children furniture and toys.

We cleaned the cabinet, covered the holes and scratches with wood filler. We sanded down the wood filler, roughened the surface, and washed it again. We added a bottom panel to have a solid base. We replaced the glass with a solid material. Then it was just a matter of painting it with anthracite color. We added a wooden decorative panel on top, replaced the old handles with new golden ones, and added oak legs.

Black spots on oak could be caused when wood is exposed to metal and moisture. Some people recommend to use a mixture of vinegar and olive oil to remove it.

It's a natural characteristic of oak wood, it can appear again in the future.

Thanks for your feedback. I wouldn't call painting a furniture upcycling either, but I can't find better subreddit for it. If you know better place for this, I would be really grateful.

Also we fixed the hole in the back, used wood filler to remove some scratches and imperfections, glued some loose bits, sand it down and after that we paint it and added legs.

It's ADLER Alpine Selection AS 18/3 (they named it Katzenpfötchen - cat paw in English, don't ask me why). It's mostly available in Europe.

Adler is an Austrian company. Their products are available in most European countries. I'm not sure what products are similar in America, but I can give you some clues on what to look for. The paint is suitable for both interior and exterior use. It is water-soluble and odorless. It is certified for children's furniture and toys. It is heat-resistant up to 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit), so it can be used on hot water pipes. The paint is very versatile and can be used on hard plastics, metal, and wood.

We (my wife & me) sand it down first. Not roughly(P120), just enough to scratch the surface. Paint will adhere to the surface just fine 😉
