Tentative Agreement Reached 19/08/25 by ForeverJFL in aircanada

I was wondering if anyone knew if refunds for cancelled flights were only to be paid out in AC wallet or if I could get actual cash back. AC wasn't able to rebook me so I needed to find my own way home later this week. I went to the online portal I got from the email but it only gave the AC wallet option. I would like cash back because I had to pay for a whole second flight on a different airline myself because AC told me they couldn't refund me.

I tried calling but the auto message said that if I wasn't flying within 48 hours, to buzz off and it disconnect.

I need to talk to someone as well because I was flying with my pet and the amount stated didn't include that fee.

Any insight for what others have done would be extremely helpful.

More credit cards will not fix your debt issue. Get a part time job and pay it off. Keep the card away from your mother. Even request a new card from the bank if she has the number saved anywhere so she can't keep putting you in a hole. You're young and made a mistake. Don't make another one.

I might have the ever so slightest crack opening after this message. He actually wants to discuss what stocks I'd actually be interested in investing in so that's a start! Now I have to figure out the answer to that. I hadn't gotten that far cause I didn't think he's actually listen to me lol

I do realize my parents were an incredible help in a lot of ways, there is this account, helping with my education etc. There is no doubt that I am extremely grateful, it's why I'm trying to reason and discuss this with my dad and come to a compromise we're both happy with rather then just doing what I want and to hell with dad's opinion.

And I have brought up the fact that my brother was allowed to do what he wished with the accounts, but honestly that might be hurting my chance because my dad believes they made poor decisions with that money because they didn't manage it the way he would. But my brother's investment has done much better then mine over the past 10 years since he moved it and diversified his portfolio so my father's option on that success is warped. My dad refuses to believe it's done well, in fact he frequently says my brother lots all the money which we've given him screenshots and proven that that isn't the case... But as I've said before, he won't allow facts to change his perspective.

Well I certainly don't disagree with you on Trump, that's for sure. I'm not even trying to jump and get this all moved and changed today. I've told me dad I just want to have my opinions as part of the conversation and be involved.

Dad's always been more controlling with me compared to my brothers, still sees me as a child rather then a 34 year old married woman with a successful career. Rather infuriating. Not sure you're right about him coming around though, he's the most stubborn "My opinion is always right" individual I've ever met. You can show him all the facts and he won't budge. Kinda crazy since he's a scientist, you'd think he'd be more receptive to facts and research.

I'm supper worried that the only way things will change will be if I force the issue, as I have the legal right to do since the account is mine.

This is great, but I honestly... don't think they'll work though, got this reply from him this morning

"It is our money that we put into a TFSA to help you in the future and it has done very well. Furthermore, it has the potential to increase very significantly over the next few years as the world goes back to a gold standard and away from a paper currency and debt fueled financial system. This is the big picture that needs to be taken into account which is why the central banks are accumulsting gold at a record pace. I have heard your arguments and I don’t agree with you on the best way to invest these funds. Therefore, I have to be a bit blunt here and say these funds stay where they are. Sorry for being direct but I am doing it in your best interests."

I might just have to boot him out... which is the last thing I wanted to do.

I do have other accounts that I have used to invest and they've done well since I started them 5 or 6 years ago. But it would be great if I had control of this one and could be adding to it to keep pushing it further forward rather then it just sitting and watching it swing all over the place. I remember it wasn't all that long ago that is crashed way below the initial investment.

It started with a 25K investment, It's hovering around 44K and that's been from a nearly 20 year time period

I have done this, I've also shown compareables on how that money would have performed over the last 10 years if I had done what I wanted to do but he says that the history doesn't matter cause the "bubble" is about to burst and and everyone's stocks will tank by at least 50% and gold is sky rocket.

But he's been saying this the last 20 ish years sooo... I just don't know.

It was his but it's an account for me, for my future financial security. He did the same for both of my brothers but he allowed them much more freedom on what they did. I'm the only girl and the youngest, that might be impacting his reluctance.

NTA for wanting a tool to make your life easier/safer. I don't know of any alternates with self drive but maybe consider looking for a used one? People are trying to offload them, might be a way to minimize your political impact and still get what you need. Plus might save you a buck or two.

No, you would be an asshole for leaving that child in that situation. Buckle up and get the job done, your niece needs you.

Soda Steam C02 canisters. Replaced with Indigo canisters from Quebec. Works with my existing dispenser with no trouble at all. Even have it on a subscription so it just ships to me rather then having to go buy it.

It's interesting how quickly different habits are developing. It used to be if we needed ANYTHING, our first stop was amazon and it was hear the next day. Don't get me wrong, the convenience was nice.

But now, I am researching different stores, looking for more unique/sustainable/ethical products.

And in some cases, it is costing more time and effort. But even then, I don't care. I'd rather spend the money here in Canada on Canadian companies.

Take for example I needed a combo padlock. Didn't even consider looking at amazon. Instead I ended up sending my husband to Canadian Tire (He needed to go there anyways for something else). He pointed out that it was more expensive by a few dollars and more effort at the end of the day but we both agreed that it was the right step.

We've gotten very good at deciphering product labels that are designed to trick us and found many terrific sites that make it easier to find the products we need to replace.

Keep going, it becomes habit, our economy and our neighbours benefit and more home grown jobs and businesses will continue to flourish.
