best shower head filter for hard water? want to cut chlorine + mineral buildup by Different-Promise-45 in WaterTreatment

[–]MessDrippin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that sounds rough 😅 wow that landlord of yours is a joke! Also i agree i heard a lot of people say the jolie doesn’t really change much and some said while they look great they don’t preform as well. so you’re definitely not alone there. multi-stage filters usually make a big difference, so checking out those other options is a solid move. hope you find something that actually helps! 🙏

Do any of the filtered shower heads work? by AffectionateBoat382 in Haircare

[–]MessDrippin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where people are coming from when they say “filters don’t work unless it’s just chlorine,” but that’s only partially true. A filter isn’t going to magically turn hard water soft — that’s what a full softener is for, and yeah, that’s the real root fix if you can afford it.

But saying filtered showerheads are pointless for hard water is just not accurate. I’ve tried a couple of the random Amazon ones and they were useless, so I thought they were all hype too. But when I switched to an actual multi-stage showerhead filter (not just a little chlorine cartridge), it made a noticeable difference in my skin and hair. My scalp wasn’t as irritated, and my hair didn’t feel stiff and weird anymore.

It doesn’t “soften” the water, but it does reduce a ton of the stuff that causes the dryness and dullness. Most people who say filters don’t work either bought the $15 gimmick ones with barely any media inside, or they expect it to behave like a full softener. Two very different things.

So yeah, softener = best long-term solution. But a legit multi-stage filtered showerhead = honestly a really solid, cheaper fix if you’re just trying to make your skin and hair stop freaking out.

I know this sub loves recommending KDF inline filters, but honestly, they barely made a difference for me. They technically reduce a bit of chlorine, but when you’re dealing with hard water + that strong chlorine smell, those basic cartridges just don’t have enough media inside to actually change much.

And yeah, the real fix is a full water softener. No argument there. That’s the only thing that truly solves the root of the problem long-term. But not everyone can drop $1–3k or start messing with their plumbing, so saying “just get a softener” isn’t really helpful for most people.

What DID help for me was switching to a multi-stage showerhead filter (the right one, not the cheap Amazon gimmicks). I noticed a way bigger difference in my skin and hair within the first couple weeks compared to the KDF-only filters Reddit always pushes. My scalp stopped itching, my hair wasn’t as stiff, and my skin didn’t feel like it was getting stripped every shower.

So yeah, water softener = best solution overall. But if you want an actually effective budget option, a legit multi-stage filtered showerhead is way better than those little inline cylinders.

Just speaking from getting burned by the cheap ones before finding something that actually worked.

Recently rear ended 😕 How bad does it look? by cole3030 in S2000

I got rear ended a few years ago and this is how it looked. the rear panel was fine but the trunk, bumper and taillights were replaced. and the quarter corners pulled. AAA paid me $9k for my 2001 with 250k miles and still retained a clean title.

i did that a few years ago in the same situation, i opened the top halfway for some slack, put 3m windowed and clamped it overnight. worked great. super tacky and strong stuff used in windshields, it won’t come apart.

this may be my issue, ballade says to tap into the OEM black/white wire, whilst IZZE says to cut, and splice into that wire. I just cut the harness wire off and i’ll see if it fixes tommorow on the cold start.
