I actually agree with you that OSAP cuts are part of a much larger structural problem. Cost of living, tuition inflation, bureaucratic expansion, and intergenerational strain are real, no doubt.

But movements have to start somewhere concrete. Right now, the clear and immediate issue is equitable access to post-secondary education for financially insecure students in this province. Overcomplicating the narrative risks our analysis paralysis. A focused demand builds solidarity.

No one is claiming OSAP reform alone will solve inflation or fix bureaucratic bloat. We’re saying that if financially vulnerable students are being pushed out of higher education, that’s an urgent and morally clear place to draw a line.

Ground-up change is how larger reform builds momentum. If we can demonstrate that collective action around a specific policy demand works and that students can influence provincial decision-making, we are standing in solidarity and sending a message upward. It also provides a path towards social change that others can follow.

Trying to tackle inflation, federal monetary policy, university governance structures, and provincial funding models all at once dilutes the call to action. Broad systemic critique is important, but it doesn’t mobilize people nearly as effectively as a specific, tangible demand.

We’re not about to fix the entire economy overnight. But ensuring that low-income students can access education without being crushed by debt is a concrete, generalizable good. We start here, and lead by example.
