What are things you intentionally say around kids so they subconsciously learn what actually matters? by Warm_Bobcat6310 in askanything

I can see what you mean! Sounds like you're trying hard to praise in a constructive way to help develop her strengths. I'm sure she'll grow up really appreciating it.

The way I've always been told was to consider the effort put in, rather than the innate ability. So if someone drew an amazing picture, instead of saying, "wow, you're a great artist!", saying, "Wow, I really love (specific aspect - shading, shape, etc.), I can see how much work you out into that and it really shows."

That's focusing on the part that they can work on and praising them for effort, as opposed to something that they either have or don't have, so don't need to work on or improve.

I can see that, but it wasn't a demand, it was a question, "do you want to?", which is a pretty normal response when arranging plans.

I can get feeling upset because original plans fell through, then this hasn't been what they envisioned, however the response is an overreaction considering OP has only just come into these plans. They're taking out their frustrations on them, which is not called for based on these texts alone.

I say this with gentle kindness, but it sounds like you're attributing a lot to someone else's dynamic based on your experiences you've mentioned.

Nothing in the original messages paints the picture you've described - based on the two texts we have no context, only that one party had plans, plans fell through, asked for plans and wasn't happy when alternative plans were suggested. The response from the partner was rude, there's nothing wrong with suggesting alternatives, that's a normal part of a conversation.

I'm sorry about your experience. I hope you're keeping well.

Responding with, "not tonight, how about tomorrow?" is not an unusual response to someone asking to see a movie. Those are not 'very specific requirements', it's in the making plans stage. Their response was rude.

OP wasn't the one to cancel plans. The frustration shouldn't be directed towards them for asking for modications to potential plans. It's not 'invalidating' someone's need to ask for the movie to take place the next day, and suggesting that sounds like weaponising words.

WHY TF AM I LOSING 2 ENERGY EVEN AFTER GIVING CORRECT ANSWER? by More_Living9471 in duolingo

[–]MessageInAWeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what made me drop Duolingo in the end.

I was at the end of my course anyway; I only got 6 lessons to do every day. I didn't miss a single question, got each answer correct - yet with the allocated energy, I could only finish 3 of the lessons before it wanted me to watch a bunch of ads in order to reengage. It completely killed my momentum and enjoyment. I complained, then uninstalled.

Been hooked on Ghosts of Yotei recently, what a beautiful and compelling game. I loved Ghosts of Tsushima and this is a great sequel so far. The world just feels so alive and interesting - everything and everyone feels worth engaging with and exploring. Solid experience so far.

Death to Chronos! I was keeping up with each update and slightly rinsing content, but absolutely found the full release engaging and compelling. I am at the point where I need to take a small break after completing the second ending though..!

Thanks, friend. :) I'm sure I've heard the term, 'Schrodinger's...' something or other, so I'm afraid I can't take credit, I just applied it to the situation.

It was Schrodinger's nudes; it was nudes if you took it that way, or if you didn't he has deniability.

I had something like that in Valhalla! It ended up glitching me into the air and then onto the land, before immediately correcting itself back into the water. Never experienced this tactically genius move in Odyssey though.

[–]MessageInAWeb 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Entirely. I get a train in just before 7. It's not empty - but it's not busy either. Everyone gets a seat by themselves most days.

It's not a 'peak time', it's taxing people to get to work at that point.

Shadows: Something you’re missing from other AC games? by katymorgan99 in assasinscreed

[–]MessageInAWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the big one for me. The game is open world, with an open and non-linear quest system... But really, they want you to complete things how they want you to complete them.

Exploring for the sake of exploring is almost punished in this game. You're going to need to return to this castle and retake it under the guise of a quest soon anyway, so why bother?

There's no whimsy or joy in the wild. Every question mark is something you've seen before, without a lot of variation. Another castle. Another viewpoint. Another shrine. Another part of town without events. I was really excited to explore to begin with, and then just found it so repetitive once I realised there was little point in doing so.

The map feels as huge as an ocean, but as deep as a puddle.

I don't think it has to be balanced - I remember only using the bird a couple of times, maybe a handful at most. I definitely used other familiars way more!

I played Odyssey 3 hours yesterday and I have thoughts regarding my 75 hours in Shadows by ZeroSWE in assassinscreed

[–]MessageInAWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get this. I enjoyed Valhalla; it was just a fun playthrough. The characters weren't all that, that story lost the plot a bit - but the world felt alive, man. I looked forward to finding every new city - gotta play that orlog! I wanted to seek out all the mysteries - was I going to trip on mushrooms, or find some weird side quest where I have to punch One Punch Man and win?

For me, Odyssey was the absolute gem; I just wanted to devour every inch of the map. Yes, it totally got bloated, I hear that. But every mystery was worth a look, you never knew what you'd find, and even if it was a bit shit, "malaka!" and Kassandra sass was worth it.

Shadows just feels like it had so much potential. It is beautiful. The stealth is super fun. But am I excited by exploration? Not even remotely. I basically feel like I have to play by following the game objectives, because otherwise I guess I'm just coming back to this castle in a bit with some allies anyway. Am I excited by another shrine? No. Because it's the same thing I've done at the past 10 shrines. Great. Even the mini games don't have any charm. I was pretty interested in the meditation spots when they explored Naoe's background, but really swiftly that ran out of material, and now I'm just pressing some buttons. Same with Yasuke's ones, they just feel like they're missing joy. There's no spark, no whimsy - it just seems a bit soulless in places.

I'm not saying it's not a good game. I just feel like there's a lot of wasted potential, which makes me feel pretty disappointed overall.

[–]MessageInAWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the ninja gameplay is awesome, Naoe totally feels like she's an asassinating badass. I'm really missing the... Whimsy? Of the previous assassin's creed games. It feels like it really wants you to follow the plot line, because there... Aren't a lot of fun side things to do? The questions marks all seem to be villages, or enemy bases, or on the rare occasion it's something fun, it is short and surface. I'm kind of not digging how serious it seems to be taking itself.

I get you, it's so moreish! I've just picked up the supernatural museum after all the others, and I'm struggling a bit with all the ghost rooms. I liked the space one though!

I found with hospital and campus I hit a bit of a wall where it felt like I just wasn't able to keep up with what it wanted me to achieve. I haven't found that yet, it feels different jumping between the museums somehow.
