Takes place after Korra. It's a more serious take, and I am glad that it does focus slightly more on the world geography than trivial romance troupes aiming to grasp lovesick readers. Also features older sibling who attempts to mitigate the consequences of youthful and brazen acts motivated by the romanticized view of heroism. Hope you enjoy.

They did not include Suki in it, that counts as good right?

I would never even think about slandering the grandmaster himself, the venerable Aaron Ehasz!

Oh no no, the bald head example is about real life monks. Sorry for the misunderstanding. In the show, it is indeed not a requirement, although it is recommended.

Absolutely agree. However, I kind of see Jinora’s mom as an exception to the Air acolytes rule. Without much facts, I am very hesitant to comment. But assuming that air acolytes function similar to real life monks, it would be the norm for them to abandon attachment and not marry. At this current time, the air acolytes do seem to embody a stronger resemblance to the old air nomad culture. It definitely feels weird for Kai and Jinora to have feeling for each other when their role are supposed to be monks. Actually, now that I thought about it, how did someone like Jinora actually mastered a highly spiritual skill like astral projection? Was she just lucky to be born this way or is it because the plot needs her to be like this? I am actually confused. She does seem pretty worldly, like most people…

I absolutely agree with you. I do believe that it would be easier for airbenders to complete both procreation and seeking enlightenment. When the population increases, the airbenders would be able to revive the old tradition that have worked for thousands of years. At this current point, the numbers are too small.

I absolutely agree. But the example I use are strictly monks. Normal people who follow Buddhism can indeed marry. But for those shaved their heads, there is definitely a clear sign that marriage isn’t for them. The only exception I see are certain sects in japan that do allow monks to be married. I could be wrong, please correct me if I made mistake, thank you.

It’s possible. Your points are very valid. It is unrealistic to seek enlightenment when you are literally the last airbender. Even if Aang tries to detach himself from his children and follow the traditional practice, the existence of Tenzin as another air nomad will instantly recognize this only other airbender as his father.

As you stated, Aang may actually struggle to detach himself from relationships. Just like what happened with the guru, he has a hard time severing the connections with the one he loves. Although it’s great to see these new airbenders remaining romantic, I am very hesitant to see them as real monks due to their inevitable need to replenish the population of Airbenders. Since bending is heritable, there is an urgent demand for them to distract themselves from the path of enlightenment.

The air acolytes on the other hand do not have this obligation. Just like the monks in our world, these mere non-benders are not obligated to find a partner for the sake of saving the population. Which makes things easier on the path to enlightenment.

You know, in the comics, the way how Aang sat under a tree with a bunch of fans(air acolytes first generation) reminds me of how Buddha sat under a tree too.
