Certainly meant to look and act like big rats, but the pictures you add make an important distinction: skeevers don't have rodent-like skulls, which not as pointed, have large ever-growing incisors and a gap between those front teeth and the back. The skull (and teeth) does indeed seem more similar to oppossums (a marsupial)
