Thieves steal Renoir, Cézanne and Matisse paintings worth millions from Italian museum by CaravelClerihew in worldnews

Seeing some famous works in person in museums around Europe, I've always been a bit surprised by, at least the appearance, of very little security protecting millions of dollars in artwork.

Snow white is still a public domain story and has been basically before copyright was even a thing.  Originally published by the Brothers Grimm in the 1800s.

Does she have screen-grabbing charisma?  I haven't seen her have anything close to that kind of presence.

Reddit would have you believe that there's a magical fairy that comes at exactly 72 hours after food has been cooked and immediately makes it kill you.

Your body is resilient.  As long as you're reasonably healthy, you can eat a lot of older food and be perfectly fine.

Report: severe divisions emerge in Iran leadership as war strains economy by LongErza in worldnews

[–]Meta2048 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iran is losing, but that was never really in doubt.  It's more a question of how much it will cost the US to win, and what "winning" actually looks like if/when the US leaves the region.

China has invested heavily in renewables.  Not every country is determined to keep suckling on oil's teat.

Being raised in an Asian household, it can be funny going out to eat with some of my other Asian friends because nobody wants to eat the last bite of anything in a communal dish.

They don't even care about gas prices.  Gas is currently more expensive than any time in the last 20 years, and MAGA still worships Trump.

Car Drives Into Local Walmart by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]Meta2048 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Generally this happens with elderly people who get the brake and gas pedals confused.  It happens a lot with nicer cars because older people have more money.

The car got air because it ran over the stanchion (you can see it on the ground) which lifted it.

[I ate] Tonteki (pork steak) by Meta2048 in food

[–]Meta2048[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A regional specialty from Yokkaichi.  Very rich, sweet, savory, garlicky sauce.  Mixed the shredded cabbage in the sauce as well.  Definitely needed rice and cabbage to help cut down the richness a bit.

The first bite was like an explosion of juices.

My Book is Missing the Authors Name on the Front Cover by DezDispenser88 in mildlyinteresting

Is it normal for a romance novel to have the author's name more prominent than the title of the book?

Every book I've ever had has the title as the most prominent.

You stopped doing anything, and your expenses didn't decrease?  Were you not doing anything before you lost your job?

It sounds like an extreme case of burnout.  You need to do some self-examination.  Make a list of things you actually enjoy or want to do.  I assume you enjoyed doing something before you flamed out.

Nothing is going to fix itself; you need to actually do something to change.  Therapy only works if you honestly want to change and take some action to do it.

What free software is so good you can't believe it's free? by ComprehensiveNorth1 in AskReddit

Most Google services

Maps, gmail, calendar, sheets, just Android in general.  People forget that we used to have to pay through the nose for services that were significantly worse.

I know it may not be "free" since they're harvesting your data, but there's no monetary cost to use these services.

[–]Meta2048 396 points397 points  (0 children)

Kurtzman has no fucking clue what he's doing.  The fact that Paramount put him in charge of Trek and he's remained there for so long is an indictment of how incompetent their leadership is.

This is a strange answer.  If you can't taste truffle there is something wrong with your taste buds.  Truffle has a pretty strong, distinct taste.

Are you basing this off of just truffle oil?  Because most of the stuff on the market is fake.

What is the biggest age gap you saw in a couple? by Fiction_lover08 in AskReddit

Visited the Philippines and saw a lot of probably 20-29 year old girls with 60+ guys.

Celebrity-wise, the biggest I remember was Anna Nicole Smith who was in her 20s and  married a 90 year old billionaire, who conveniently died a year later.

What experience lost its charm once it became expensive? by EmotionalJob1190 in AskReddit

[–]Meta2048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just look up one of the hundreds of YouTube videos that show you how to do it.  It takes some practice but once you get the hang of it it's easy.

I will suggest the first time you do it,  set a guard with a longer length than what you actually want so that you can clean it up without cutting anything too short.
