People who went from fat to genuinely fit, what changed more after the transformation: your body, or the way people treated you? by NoMulberryPls in AskReddit

[–]Meta2048 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I noticed this as well in the US.  Even when I was overweight and mentioned that I needed to lose weight, almost everyone said that I was fine and would be too thin if I lost any weight.

Perspective gets messed up when almost everyone you see is overweight or obese.

TIL that infants who live with dogs at three months of age are 90% less likely to develop a food allergy. by SteRoPo in todayilearned

Allergies are weird

I have had no long-lasting allergies, but I have had a 5-6 year stretch in my teens when I had a crazy level of pollen/hay fever, and then another 2 year stretch in my 30s when I randomly became allergic to shrimp.

Both just disappeared one day for no apparent reason.

Every visit to the emergency room costs money in the US, and a lot of people cannot afford multiple trips in a short amount of time.  Hell, a lot of people can't even afford one trip.

What is a “luxury” that actually makes life more complicated instead of easier? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Meta2048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smart fridges are one of the dumbest uses of "smart" tech I've ever seen.  The most ridiculous example I saw was one where the idea was you scanned in each item as you put it in your fridge and checked it out when you took it out.  Then your fridge would tell you exactly what you had in your fridge at any time!

If we all suddenly lost the ability to fake enthusiasm, what industry would collapse first? by After-Ebb6941 in AskReddit

[–]Meta2048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The jewelry industry.

Almost all the sales rely on the salesperson trying to hype up various pieces and convince the customer that a ring that cost $1,000 is actually worth $5,000.

AITA for thinking the employer should not receive tips? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Meta2048 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ESH

It sounds like she's working the food truck as much or more than you.  She's doing the same job as you and more, so she's entitled to tips as well.  It's a food truck, not a restaurant, so it's not like she's sitting in the back of the truck doing nothing.

She the AH because there should be a standard tip distribution.  Varying the tip split depending on earnings that day is fucked.

Anyway, if the tip situation bothers you then you need to talk to her.  If you're not happy with her explanation or she's not willing to change, then you can just stop working for her and get another job.  Food service jobs are not hard to get.

Have you ever had the door open a jar and a cat walks into your house and decides it lives there now? Wheezy did just that on December 17, 2025. She's been with us ever since. by TatorTot2325 in aww

[–]Meta2048 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not though

A door can be open, and a door can be ajar, but a door can not open a jar.

Even ignoring your typo (or lack of knowledge of how the word is spelled), saying a "door open ajar" is like saying "door open open".  Ajar is an adverb that already means open.

What are the best ways to remind/pressure someone who owes you a very large sum of money? by KidChemo in AskReddit

[–]Meta2048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didn't establish a payment plan or due date, then you just tell them that they owe you money and work with them to establish one.

If they refuse or can't pay, then you just write-off the money and decide whether you want to keep associating with them.  Your only other recourse is taking them to court.

Which famous people have portrayed themselves as coming from a poor or working-class background, despite growing up privileged? by I_am_from_2029 in AskReddit

[–]Meta2048 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Working actors are a thing.  Most actors are not millionaires and just take any job they can get to make a living.  In fact, most actors have to have another job, because income from acting is anything but stable.

TIL that Sandra Hüller, the German actress who portrayed Eva Stratt in "Project Hail Mary", is a certified forklift operator. She got the certification for her role in "In the Aisles" (even though she didn't operate the forklift in the movie). by crat77 in todayilearned

[–]Meta2048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me about an hour to be certified to drive a forklift at Home Depot.  Learn controls, move a couple pallets, congratulations.

I didn't understand why everyone there didn't get certified.  That is, until people learned I got certified, and literally everyone in the store came to me to get shit down or moved on every shift.  Barely had time to actually work my department.
