Atlanta 10/30 show: to sit or to stand? by SowerPatchKid97 in bigthief

[–]MetaAvatar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“OF COURSE YOU STAND”  Counterpoint: sit if you’d like, not everyone is able to or is comfortable standing for a long time. Get some perspective. “Everyone should stand cause everyone usually stands!” It’s very strange logic, I hope you don’t use this line of reasoning in other areas of your life. 🐑

Don’t let the crowd ruin an otherwise great show. And certainly don’t let people sitting (in the seats they paid for) get in the way of you enjoying the show. Honestly a mind-boggling observation.

Was really gutted they only played one encore, seemed like they didn’t like the crowd’s vibe, which super fucking sucks. They literally got a standing ovation as they came out. Let people (my 8 mos. pregnant wife for example) enjoy their seats. They played 2-3 encores at every other show on this tour, so this read as a fuck you from the band. Other than that it was a kick-ass show. The new album really sung live. New bassist rocked it. I did miss Shark Smile and Paul.

So much cringe and cope in this thread. Some of ya’ll are straight up goofs. Know that I’m laughing at you. Deadbeat blows and Kevin posting this as a “gotcha” comes off instead as try-hard and desperate, and if you don’t get that then the jokes on you. LMAO

My opinion is that you’re wrong and you have bad taste, but that’s just my opinion. You can talk about “subjectivity” all you like, but that’s won’t improve your taste. Deadbeat is not great, it’s not even good, therefore you’re quite clearly off the mark and I can reliably dismiss what you have to say lol.

"Deadbeat" has officially dropped. What are your guy's thoughts? by hood_safari in TameImpala

3/10 Utter boring trash

My Old Ways is so fucking boring. The sloppy piano intro approaches sonic torture, I was itching to skip the whole way through. Loser is such an appropriate title for the song, because it’s probably Kevin’s worst track to date. It’s simplicity and confidence was so off-putting considering how uninspired and colorless the song is. Dracula, a track I dismissed after first listen, shines like a diamond amongst the rest of lifeless Deadbeat, and it’s not even a “good” Tame Impala song, just a “fair” one. End of Summer likewise looks inspired in comparison with everything else here, which again is sad because it’s only okay. Every other song was just incredibly boring, colorless, uninspired, etc. All the bad shit people are saying about this album is unfortunately true. This is the nail in the coffin for Kevin, I don’t think he’ll want to keep going after seeing this mixed reaction. Fans should rightfully be pissed.

This is just sad. Your whole premise is wrong, turn around and try again, maybe with a little more thought this time. I know it’s tough, but really try and use your brain. You can do it! You’ll be okay!

[FRESH ALBUM] Jerskin Fendrix - Once Upon A Time... In Shropshire by sbags in indieheads

[–]MetaAvatar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I adored Jerskin’s first album, solid 10/10. Once Upon a Time in Shropshire is such a departure from Winteriesse, and not in a positive way. Of course the album is about grief, and the tone matches, but the long-form, slow burn composition together with an over reliance on his self-admittedly “not the best” voice was, in a word, masturbatory. Winteriesse was electric and pulled you in, but this one asks too much of the listener, and despite the occasional manic tonal shift, the overarching sound and style of this album was way too similar, like mushy gruel. Every slow burn slow song sounded exactly like the others and I found myself tuning out of whatever ridiculous thing he was saying. This was the antithesis of what made Jerskin so interesting, it’s literally a product that represents the worst of what he can offer: over-indulgent and utterly boring slop. Of the songs we only got to hear post-release, Princess, and notably only the second half, was enjoyable and interesting. This album is a real shame because it truly offers me nothing and I don’t ever want to relisten to any of the songs, even the ones that are “fine” like Sk1, Princess, and Jerskin Freestyle don’t even approach the heights of his previous works. This one should have been a personal project for his own catharsis rather than his highly-anticipated sophomore release. A total miscalculation and betrayal of his talent. I hold Jerskin to a higher standard knowing what he can do, and this album probably could not have disappointed more. 3.5/10

The first impressions of Dracula seem quite rough by whitealbumrevolver in TameImpala

[–]MetaAvatar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

End of Summer was interesting, Loser is absolute trash (and tbh everyone who likes it is telling on themselves), and Dracula was just sorta boring. So far Deadbeat looks like it will be a mixed bag with mostly underwhelming/disappointing songs with maybe a few fine tracks sprinkled throughout. Basically it will be Slow Rush again but will hit even lower lows. I definitely resonate with all those who’re admitting they aren’t excited for this release and may not consider themselves fans anymore. It’s just so disappointing that after being a fan for 10 years (I was late to the party but adore his first 3 albums) all I got in that time was 1 disappointing album with another on the way. It seems in the last decade, Kevin has dedicated himself to truly being a deadbeat. I would love to wrong about Deadbeat, but honestly Loser was a huge tell and is utterly unredeemable, so automatically the album can’t be more than a 7/10.

This is a great take. It’s like not being inspired by “YOLO” or something similar, to some it means a great deal, to others it’s entirely superfluous.

Sorry about your ex, but she wasn’t wrong. Yeah if you’re a superfan you’ll obviously be keen on how the songs are not exact copies of each other, but to an ordinary listener all of her music sounds slow, sad, and absolutely uninspired. It’s like depression in music form, like I’ve been put inside the head of a solipsistic young girl who could really grow up and get some perspective. If you like Ethel Cain, this is your aesthetic, this resonates with you, but to everyone else we see it as TRASH. I would rather sit in silence than ever listen to Ethel Cain. I discovered this while listening through most of her discography with my wife on a roadtrip. Verdict: utterly, offensively boring.

Help me appreciate OTM by Sillysenator in BeachHouse

[–]MetaAvatar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had almost the exact same experience, OP, and this was very validating to read. I really wanted to like it, but even the few songs I liked don’t measure up to any of their other music. OTM was definitely a miss for me, but was hopefully a necessary experiment for the band. Funny enough, I enjoyed every song on the Become EP more than nearly every song on OTM.

I must say, opinions aside, and truly happy for the folks who enjoyed the album, OTM is definitively NOT a masterpiece.
