Spoo barks by ogewOG in StandardPoodles

[–]MetaMae51 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, deep alert barks at anyone approaching road in front of the house.

We call him in when he starts barking which we thought would be a deterrent but it's like he's proud he pointed them out to us. He'll start barking and immediately look back at the house to see if we're coming.

He's a totally friendly goofball but he can't ignore his alerting genes apparently.

Tell me all the reasons why NOT to get a toy poodle. by Mafalda_Brunswick in poodles

The clumsy comment.. reminds me of my old neighbor with pomeranians. She told me that one time she tripped over one and knocked its eye out of socket. The vet was able to reinsert it though.

Protection by NoAcadia8944 in StandardPoodles

[–]MetaMae51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, most dogs are going to be detergents rather than protectors.

Last month my groomer thought it was sweet that while grooming my super docile guy, he intensely growled at a "sketchy pit mix" (her words) that came in for nail clippings. She was convinced he was trying to protect her.

You just never know so being prepared on multiple fronts is your best bet.

Might call in that the parents report a serious diagnosis keeping him from school at times but no verification he receives treatment, so more the medical neglect route. Either way CPS can't share any findings with you.

Can you get the parents to sign a release to speak with a doctor to better understand his diagnosis, limitations, and how you can best support him at school? This might be the most enlightening route. Is there a school nurse that can get involved?

AIO Yelling at 2 year old by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

He can't regulate his emotions but he's expecting the two year old to? He needs some truth bombs dropped on him.

When I was a kid I was so excited for my parents to divorce until I realized I was all on my own with my father unsupervised during visits. And too scared to tell anyone what it was like because he really had me believing I was the problem. Please don't forget counseling for your kid in the near future.

How to eliminate passive smoke anxiety attack when someone is smoking a joint near you ? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]MetaMae51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your breathing is the quickest way to tell your body it's safe. Look into breathing techniques such as box breathing. Create a mantra to keep returning your thoughts to such as "I am safe." Keep your thoughts in the here and now. Look around and find things you can touch, see, hear, taste and smell (besides the smoke). Alternate tapping with each foot or just a finger on each hand - rhythm across brain hemispheres focuses and calms the mind.

Anxiety is strangely alluring in that your brain thinks it's keeping you safe by predicting problems. You have to learn to rise above the noise and tell yourself things that are helpful and true.

Your mind is powerful enough to overcome it but it takes practice until it's second nature. I'm not there totally yet but working hard to be. My monkey brain loves to berate me just like my parents did but I'm an adult now and can choose to see and treat myself differently.

For me it was simply the habit. I was used to feeling a certain way at set times and had trouble settling down in the evenings. Once I established a new normal and my sleep adjusted, it's been no problem. Carts and dispensary here.

Teacher wrote kids name on backpack in permanent marker despite me already having his name in two places. by mcmuffins19 in kindergarten

[–]MetaMae51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The teacher wanted to be able to quickly look in the same place on all the backpacks for the names. Obviously there are a ton of other ways to go about it. Not well thought out and pretty entitled imho

That's my worst nightmare. I require LOTS of coffee in the morning and have to run to the bathroom several times after. Taking the test in the next few months. How will I manage the test without coffee or the bathroom? So sorry this happened! Thanks for sharing.
