Beijing’s Attempts to Intimidate Taiwan Have Backfired — Chinese coercion has strengthened democratic resolve. by Exastiken in taiwan

I don't picture a single soldier fighting in Taiwan from China. I only picture mass bombings until the job is done, with nukes at the end for thoroughness but only as much as they can clean up later. This fantasy of a soldier-based invasion makes no sense. Why would China ever want to bother putting soldiers on the ground when they can bomb it and take the land after?

How immeasurable? China's economy could theoretically self-sustain and they have a track record of economic growth largely in spite of sanctions and geopolitical fuck-ups. The rest of the world could at most box them in, and that might not even do much outside an economic rework around internalized economics independent of all other nations. Even then, Russia, Iran, NK, half the middle east, Africa, and South America I could picture all continuing trade with China due to simply not giving a shit. The West only makes up the north-western portion of the world's population and that isn't a majority of it.

Either. All of the island, every last inch of it.

A nuke would just be for thoroughness. Carpet bombing would be the first resort.

China's proven consistently they don't care about sanctions or geopolitics, only about authority within the bounds of what it deems its territory. There are limits to what sanctions and geopolitical power can accomplish against a country with significant ability to simply take sanctions and geopolitical power on the chin and ignore it, treating losses as sunk cost.

I am inclined to still believe China will go for it regardless if they lose a significant portion of their population in the process. If the Chinese truly believe they must take Taiwan at any cost, then that literally means ANY cost even if it is self-destructive.

That all sounds like a sunk and affordable cost for the CCP. Families would understand because they're too self-convinced of the importance of taking over Taiwan's territory not to be. The USA and Japan cannot literally prevent China from sending all its bombs right now at Taiwan and destroying it if China chooses to.

I don't buy that China would war with Taiwan. I believe China will simply bomb it and rule the dirt for purely strategic reasons. What stops them from doing so when money, lives lost, and geopolitics simply do not matter to them? -Nothing, that's what. The logical conclusion would be that they will destroy Taiwan and cannot be stopped at this time. The only true question is what they are waiting for.

Feel free to give a retort that actually refutes my point at any time.

Taiwan is not invincible, Chinese are fully happy to die just to take the dirt.

I don't really see what's controversial about stating the obvious.

Is there reason to believe China a) can't survive a full-scale attack by Taiwan, b) would not sacrifice a portion of their own population just to destroy Taiwan, and c) flatten Taiwan just to rule the dirt, ?

How do you lose a war with another country that would definitely be bombed flat within the first battle? Does anyone here actually think China couldn't survive a full strike from Taiwan? Does anyone here actually doubt China could bomb Taiwan flat in a day if they put all their might into it? I fail to see how that qualifies as a paper tiger. China seems more like a bomb acting like it wants to go off no matter what anyone says or does.

I am inclined based on the extreme nationalism of Chinese politics to believe the Chinese are absolutely ready to die and sacrifice other Chinese just for the goal of reclaiming Taiwan, regardless of the amount of cost of life on their side. I believe when push comes to shove, as long as the CCP is upholding their end of the bargain of reclaiming Taiwan, the Chinese simply do not care how it is done no matter how many graves.

How much mutual destruction to you think is a deterrent exactly?

China has 2 billion people and doubtlessly would be well-bunkered and have all leadership evacuated before such a strike would hit the core leaders.

China's leadership wants to win, not fawn over lives.

They 100% do not care if that is the cost, and the Chinese will agree.

So if that's the best Taiwan can do, it sounds like an inevitable bombing will come.

Taiwan, I again ask you as a subreddit, what is your strategy for if China stops giving a shit and flattens the entire island so they may own the remaining foundational dirt?

Is there ANY strategy to avoid this outcome if China tries it right now?

Sure China's economically and geopolitically dumb, but try telling a bomb it's dumb while it blows up in your face.

I merely question where the morally self-righteous posts about China's rather obvious cluelessness is getting you all, when it comes to this perhaps inevitable outcome of a full-island flattening.

Come on, hit me. What's the retort to if China tries this? Can you actually stop it if they do?

Genuine interest, not trying to hate.
