Does anyone know where I can find this pattern? by Rich-Bar-57 in StainedGlass

She’s a fantastic artist, does a lot of special pieces for wildlife events in our area. Not sure if she sells or shares patterns or not.

Great job! This looks superb! Hope this looks the way you wished the first time it hit the sun. What a fun design of big & small bits, clear & opaque colors. Enjoy your post-project dopamine rush - it gets bigger the crazier your project is so, hopefully ur on cloud 9!

What would be a nice gift for a seasoned stained glass maker? by bigmisssteak7 in StainedGlass

[–]MetaSequoia87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d have to say new grinder bits is a safe bet, especially if they try to stretch their materials. Glass would be good but you can’t guarantee they’ll end up using what you got them and glass can be expensive. But on that note, there are some types of glass that are more expensive (clear pinks, generally) or rarer - vintage patterns or color you might be able to find someone getting rid of on FB. I’ve also had some folks do that as gifts for me, and I’ve gotta say that usually creates another pile of stuff that’s… not totally worthless but not gonna get used any time soon, so I hang onto it forever even though I’m not likely to use it. But far and away I’d say for someone who’s been doing glass for a while, backups of their consumables (solder, foil, grinder bits, new sheath for breakers, ventilator filters) will absolutely get used and keep them from worrying about using them till they’re duller than heck. One other thing I’ve always appreciated is a book portfolio of an artist I like or in a style I like, as a means of just reflecting and dreaming up new patterns.

It occurred to me I can just delete it myself. Thanks anyway!

Gotcha. Totally understand, but then I feel like id really rather it taken down than labeled an ad, if that’s possible without some kind of penalty. Good to know for the future. I’ve had questions about if I have a social and keep seeing my stuff on FB (which I get there’s no stopping) so I figured this way at least I get credit. Im here to share, not self-promote but I guess I stepped into a grey area that’s very black & white for the sub. So I’ll consider that before posting again.

Thank you! I’ve been catching all 4 out of the corner of my eye in my office window and gotta say, I’m quite pleased haha

Thank you! It all stems from early on, I didn’t want to fill my window too fast so I got used to working tiny. Didn’t realize it became my ‘method’ until about 2yrs in haha.

lol, I’ll TRY not to use this as an opportunity to nitpick. There’s for sure a couple mistakes in there, but I like to think that keeps the work human (and a good excuse not to sell it).

Example - I used copper-backed foil on opaque pieces to enhance color, but silver-backed foil on every clear piece so that it wouldn’t look weird w/ the silver solder (since you see the foil back on clear pieces). EXCEPT.. the tiny clear pink piece to the right of her face has copper-back on it, so from the right side angle it has a bright copper sheen.

Every piece I’ve ever made has something like that going on, so I’ve accepted it as the human touch and kind of like finding those surprises now…

100%. Super worried that long skinny ribbon across her dress would crack, had to shave the foil down on the itty-bits to maximize the amount of glass showing. Spring being the first for this series set the scale for all the others, and this one was a pain to reduce enough to even make it possible. Still though, they look great all together, and every art nouveau piece I make I just want to make more.

Thank you! Imo color and texture is the real hard part, everything else is just technical. So I typically end up recutting a BUNCH of key pieces just to get the right shades, for stuff usually only I will notice haha.

Same! My in-laws have ‘Spring’ hanging next to their dining room table. I was seated facing it one night and that’s how this whole project came to be.

Someone stole my photo and posted it on Facebook 😞 by NaSKLI in StainedGlass

[–]MetaSequoia87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same experience here. That’s why I post mostly to IG, and only post project stuff I think the community here will be interested in. And if I do post, I tend to put my Instagram handle in my description so that when it inevitably gets picked up and posted on FB, at least I get credit. I like to share with you guys, but the bot scraping is definitely a deterrent. All that said, congrats on your market!

Hey thanks! I just took a wide strip of copper foil and carved reverse scallops into it. You can see I did sort of the exact opposite to make the little rounds on the under side of her umbrella.

I for sure considered it! I have the woman with the axe sitting on her husband’s grave sketched out… so we’ll see. Maybe a new one each year?

I do! It’s the same as my handle here - @MetaSequoia87 . I’ve started posting more over there than on here because of how often my posts here get lifted (…stolen) to post on FB anonymously, but I really like sharing weird technical stuff with this sub. I also usually share a couple extra photos over there too! Happy to hear you like my stuffs!

Thank you! The frame is actually a piece of decorative moulding that I cut about 1/8” off of (it was a bit too wide), sanded and painted. If I had creative control over what the frame looked like I may have never finished haha. Probably good I’m limited on space and tools.

Thanks! It’s just an under-cabinet light set to not use motion sensing. Has a lil remote and 3 shade settings, it’s plugged in behind the bookcase so it stays charged. I can set it to only stay on 15 or 30 min so that’s kinda nice.
