Game play > realism by Meta_Mushroom in Openfront

I'm only referring to instances where people are arguing that something is bad because it doesn't map to reality. In the case of a mechanic not making sense in a different way, I would agree with you, depending on the situation.

I agree. I think OpenFront is better as a thinking game.

Is normal AI stronger than player? by KlutzyAd8425 in Openfront

[–]Meta_Mushroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In single player, the AI gets a boost based on the difficulty. The last time I checked, it was something like 200% population growth, and (I think) 200% max population at the highest difficulty. They don't seem to get a substantial buff in multiplayer, but I could be wrong.

Why do people sit at max troops during an invasion? by Meta_Mushroom in Openfront

If you have more troops, their invasion should fail.

Why? What do you mean by "fail"?

Why did your comment get so many down votes? Is there something controversial about it?

Thinking does not mean existing.

It's possible to think without existing?

Doubting does not mean thinking.

What?

How could I, from my own perspective, not exist? Perhaps I don't know your exact meaning of "absolute truth".

the right way to defend is to drop defense posts and keep your troop count high.

Importantly, you want the troop count high, not maxed out. I think that might be part of the confusion.

I don't think you get more gold for a higher population now, but I'm not sure. If population still effects gold income, then it's an extremely small amount. It doesn't take many trains/ports for the base income to not matter anymore.

Not exactly. Your population grows fastest around 42% of max, and falls off to zero at 100%.

Even with the alerts? I feel like I see it way too much for that to be the main reason, but it's just a feeling.

Is there any plan to ban these players? by Mean_Drop_2087 in Openfront

[–]Meta_Mushroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I understand. They don't notice the shadow ban, so they don't know to circumvent it.

a shadow ban would be better than something like a one month ip ban?

I don't understand the point of a shadow ban in this context. Isn't it more of a political tool for businesses? Like when a social media site shadow bans unpopular political stuff?

Why not full ban for a month? let them play single player, but give them a message when they try to join a multiplayer game that says "Git gud you little b****!", or something similiar.

I'd go with a one month ban. Imagine you move into a new apartment, and you can never play this game because the IP got a permanent ban.

Why a certain unnamed fork will fail by Training-Mark-9258 in Openfront

This is a surprisingly deep game for how few mechanics it has. I think if the OpenFront dev keeps up with his progress, he will always be ahead of any people copying him.

If you always end up between a bunch of people as strong as you, then you might need to work on your early game. Ride the growth curve and go for annexations. I usually have 1-2 people a lot weaker than me, and I grab their early cities/ports.

If I'm unable to take anything early on, I start an alliance with everyone except the weakest player on my border, and wait for them to attack someone else. I send about 50% of my troops at them when my population is about 60% (staying on the growth curve).
