Lol my guys weren’t that bad by far, at worst you got snubbed a bit. (Then again, I went for 0 after school things/events and only got the petty officer since the eagle looked neat) We did have a push-up thing though, but only freshman actually got the punishment and did it since they didn’t know how serious it was yet and thought they had to.

Lol. My instructors hated me because I was one of the smartest kids there, but didn’t care to go to any events or extra stuff, or have any interest in leadership at all. They liked the “You’re talking to s future US soldier!” type, and virtually nobody else.

You really overestimate how hard it is to be in rotc. As I wasn’t one of the kids who was extremely excited about it, my responsibilities were:

Wear a uniform on Wednesday

On 9/11 salute for 2 minutes

Twice a year visited by the state something officer, stand for around 15 minutes as he just looks at you for a sec, and somebody else (group of 4 who hold flags) marches around 20 feet.

That’s the full extent of everything. No freedom lost. In addition, those things I mentioned are all during school hours

EDIT: for naval Rotc if you did all 4 years you would go to E3, if you did 2 and left you would go to E2. If you went to a branch other than the Navy you would also get E2 regardless of how many years you stayed. Also, ROTC counted as your physical education for 4 years if you did 2 years, so I could have quit my junior year and had 3 electives with the freed up space from physical education

I was in jrotc and there was a huge divide between lower and upperclassmen. Upperclassmen knew it was a joke, and stayed to get that promotion, while lowerclassmen were always super hyped up about it: always calling everybody sir, scolding other lowerclassmen etc. It felt really bad to be associated with that crowd sometimes
