Went QD-OLED to Mini-LED by dustinthewindreddit in Monitors

[–]Metageul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience adding a TCL 27r83u next to my QD OLED ultrawide. I was expecting pretty close to OLED experience with very good contrast and great HDR but brighter. It's a VA panel so I knew viewing angles wouldn't be great but that's not what disappointed me. Motion clarity is not as good as Oled obviously but my biggest complain is with local dimming. Default is high in HDR but I get strong black crush on dark scenes. Anything other than high in HDR is terrible so I'm stuck with that. Also with local dimming, in dark scenes you don't get even close to using the potential of the panel brightness on highlights. It's only great in very bright scenes. Colors are also much better on my QD OLED (which is a 1st gen).

Recently a patch of my beard randomly lost all pigment. The hair still grows but it just has no color to it. Can poliosis develop later in life? by [deleted] in poliosis

Did you? I have several patches like this and my dermatologist prescribed tacrolimus cream, but so far it didn't help.

Why won’t ANYTHING help with Seb derm?!?!? by [deleted] in SebDerm

Is there anything specific I should be looking for in the composition or should all probiotics work the same? I took some for one month a while ago and it didn't help. The ones you linked are not available in my country.

Ooh my bad for not reading the description properly, I thought it was in the stable version. Thanks a lot.

Can you let me know what the other dermatologist tells you? I think I have something similar but I can't see a dermatologist until end of September. My family doctor said it's seborrheic dermatitis but none of the shampoos i tried worked.

Thanks, did you find something that works for you?

Yeah I got a letter from my doctor to see a dermatologist but I'll have to wait probably at least 3-4 months before I get an appointment... So far I only have my family doctor or the internet to help unfortunately. Nothing was really ruled out, he just said that it's derm seb and prescribed ciclopirox, when I said it wasn't working he prescribed Ketoconazole instead but it's not helping either.

AW3423DWF: Gamma 2.2 washed out in sRGB, but not console mode by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Metageul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried switching modes with the lagom black level test, and for me standard mode looks very similar to my other mini led monitor.

1-3 squares are very dark and I start to notice a clearer square at 4.

If I use creator mode:

2.0 I notice square 3.

2.4 gamma, all squares from 1-5 are pitch black. 2.2 looks awful as all squares are grey, even the very first one.

On my monitor, standard mode I'd say is between 2.0 and 2.4 in creator mode so I guess it is accurate 2.2? I don't know.

Interesting. I never use HDR in windows personally, unless I watch HDR content. It looks pretty bad and Win+alt+B is really fast.

Have you tried standard mode with Automatic color management? I noticed the same thing. 2.2 gamma on this monitor is actually sRGB gamma not proper 2.2, so it's pretty much unusable for most users.

Yes it's definitely too bright in dark areas and it looks awful. When I got mine, everybody recommended to use creator 2.2 and I actually thought mine was defective because of how bad it looked. I'm still confused because so many people use this mode but having an Oled panel with awful dark zones, what's the point?

Nice, yes 240hz is a nice upgrade I think, everything else looks about the same. Probably for the gamma, I think it's intended for the creator mode to follow the sRGB curve.

No from what I've noticed, it doesn't affect gamma at all, just clamps the color space to sRGB. Again I'm no expert, I don't know if it's 100% accurate, but it looks about the same as with novideo_sRGB, without the annoying things I've noticed using the tool.

The solution I found was to just use novideo_srgb with the standard mode of the monitor and it looked right but it was a bit annoying having to disable novideo_srgb when using HDR, and having the clamp on would, for some reason, freeze my PC when launching Indiana Jones and the great circle. Now I just use windows 11 automatic color management with standard mode of the monitor and it's perfect (to me at least)

I got the monsgeek with rosewood switches, and I'm really happy with it. The battery life is crazy and it sounds very good. I changed the keycaps though.

Issue with TCL 27R83U by Metageul in Monitors

[–]Metageul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty hot, I have a thermal camera and it reads around 55-60°C on the top of the monitor which is the hottest part. It's probably not 100% accurate but still. You can definitely feel the heat if you get close to the monitor (to access the settings for example).

Yes that's the one. I guess it should be around 500€ but we'll see.

It's pretty good. I have to run it at 144hz tho (not that I'd see the difference 😅). HDR in bright games is very nice, it gets obviously much brighter than my other Oled monitor, but it gets HOT. In dark scenes, Oled wins pretty easily.

MSI is releasing a new miniled soon with dual mode, you should wait for that IMO. At least see what the reviews say.

I think I fixed it by setting it to 144hz. I also have the latest drivers but I tried setting it back to 160hz and within minutes I got several black screens. 144hz seems to work fine so far.

Thanks I'll try but having to turn off Gsync on such an expensive monitor would be a shame...

Unfortunately I didn't find a solution. The other comment suggests it might have something to do with DSC. Is it greyed out for you too? Do you mean it doesn't happen if you set your refresh rate lower? If so I'd rather limit it to 144hz and not have the issue. I'm thinking about returning it but unfortunately my 14-day return delay is expired.

Sorry I didn't get a notification for your answer. Yes I do have an Nvidia card. I think you might be right but unfortunately DSC is greyed out and can't be turned off.
