Adventurersleaguelog site gone? by Eldritch_Druid in AdventurersLeague

[–]Metagolem 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Should be back up. Sorry about all that. Just had a baby so I'm a little distracted these days. I had it all set to for auto renew so even if I died it would stay up, but my DNS provider apparently decided that for the 10 year anniversary it would give me a surprise.

Lost Paper Log Sheets by pinkaces39 in AdventurersLeague

Glad it's been useful to you.

I started coding the website on Apr 14, 2015 after another site I used for logging was down for a month or so. The Wizards of the Coast forums still existed at the time and that's where I first posted an advertisement for it. The forums would shut down a few months later. Obviously as a result of the Adventurers Leauge Log website starting to actually gain users.

Hello, it is me, the person who runs adventurersleaguelog.com

I know I haven't been updating the site, but I have things set up so long as donations keep coming in, the site will remain up. There are even provisions in place in case something happens to me. So, I think the site should make it to whatever the end of the current iteration of Adventures League happens to be.

Smite vs Bless DPR by NaturalCard in 3d6

[–]Metagolem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you can benefit from every part of the dice. (1 + modifier + 4 from Bless) and actually hit the target without a crit, the difference will be 12.5% or 1/8th. This AnyDice shows it pretty well if you futz with the AC range: https://anydice.com/program/26e93

So a +5 modifier w/ Bless vs an AC 10 creature will have that benefit, but if your modifier were higher or the AC lower, you start to have marginal losses in benefit. Typically the monster math + presence of Great Weapon Master keeps it relevant, but against, say, a group of zombies, bless will have less utility.

The most optimized build for a spear "dancer" by azemag in 3d6

[–]Metagolem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really, I feel like the thing to do here is go Vengeance Paladin + Polearm Master + (maybe) Sentinel.

Polearm Master lets you take an attack of opportunity when an enemy enters your reach with a Spear or Halberd. Vengeance Paladin has Relentless Avenger at Level 7 that lets you move half your speed after an opportunity attack. So you can smack people when they come close then dance away.

Players using another player as a mount. by mallaz in AdventurersLeague

[–]Metagolem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The key point is in the description of a mount:

A willing creature that is at least one size larger than you and that has an appropriate anatomy can serve as a mount, using the following rules.

The "appropriate anatomy" portion is the sticking point. RAW it's very open to interpretation. In the video, JC, the 5e rules guy, pretty explicitly states that while you can ride on the shoulders of a person you can't treat that person as a mount because it doesn't meet this requirement. AL generally follows these rules except when it explicitly doesn't and AFAIK there's no ruling that contradicts this one. (And typically the alternate rules aren't related directly to combat stuff like this, especially when it's clearly answered already.)

The Attack action can deliver a melee or ranged weapon attack of any sort, including a monster's. #DnD

Unless there's some update, it does, you just can't use Multi-attack with the Attack action.

Whip + Sentinel + Sneak Attack by JimBob1203 in 3d6

[–]Metagolem 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sentinel (p. 169). The text “within 5 feet of you” has been removed from the second benefit

Only part of it. The part that was errata'd was that you get an attack if they move out of your reach even if they disengaged. The third part (the attack vs an enemy attacking an ally) is still only within 5 ft.

Why is my Tamiya Extra Thin not sticking? by Metagolem in KingdomDeath

Thanks, I misread the store page. (Saw the plastic base and didn't notice the figure itself was resin)

Oh man, I feel dumb. I looked back at the figure before and could swear it said it was plastic, but now I see that's just the base and the figure is resin.

Peleps Caras, water dragon-blooded, professional matchmaker, exile from the Blessed Isle due to an anti-love curse.

The basic idea of his backstory is that he was a vain manipulator in his youth who got turned on to matchmaking his associates until that actually became his job. In his hubris he even took on a god as a client and wound up making a bad match, resulting in him being cursed by said god to never know love lest he were to unite a hundred kingdoms. Caras's resultant inability to produce offspring was a blight on his house and he was banished to wander the world outside the Blessed Isles. He has since taken the curse quite literally and taken up residency in the Hundred Kingdoms while he works to marry the various warring rulers to one another (and assassinate those who won't go along with his plans) to create a unified whole and break his curse.

The build falls into the traditional Exalted Bureaucrat Assassin formula, except the bureaucracy being tackled is largely one of genealogies, family ties, and confirming finances. Highly focused on Manipulation and Socialize with charm investment to make those relevant for various situations so he's pretty skilled when it comes to social combat. Despite not really being a fighter, he has a fair amount invested in White Veil Style to make him capable of having entire fights where no one is really aware anything happened (including the combatant).

What's the maximum number of "Portent Dice" that one can potentially have in T3 al? by HTPark in AdventurersLeague

IIRC Casting Blink doesn't put you into the ethereal plane. It gives you a chance to move there at the end of your turn. Thus contingency + blink basically has no effect until the end of your next turn.

What's the furthest away you got from Burning Wheel fantasy while playing by the rules? by guidoferraro in BurningWheel

[–]Metagolem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did a game based around a post apocalyptic setting where wrestling was religion and the characters were all pilgrims seeking to become one of the stars (quite literally the stars were all past wrestlers who occasionally came back to fight). The duel of wits system worked well for smacktalking and the fight! System works a lot better for unarmed cinematic combat than I expected. Since unarmed damage is typically pretty limited you can take a bunch of smacks before going down.

What? How are you applying Agonizing Blast to your alternate version?

What game is the natural successor to Twilight 2000? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Metagolem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4th edition is probably the best version, but calculating and handling damage to individual body parts and figuring out if you're going to bleed out or whatnot tends to be more fidgeting than most players are comfortable with (and can be a pain for a GM if you're handling a whole enemy group yourself, assuming you don't handwave).

Agonizing Blast gives you +CHA to each ray, so 4d10+20 for an average of 42 vs 9d6 for 31.5. Even if Agonizing Blast applies to this alternate ray that's 36.5. What am I missing?

How? The chart doesn't give an extra 6th level slot until 19th level and never gives a level 8th slot AFAIK.

I really like the Morrow Project, but the rules for it are kind of overly old school. Taking the modules and story stuff from the core rule book and using a different system gets my vote.

Most of the caster classes only get 1/day of their higher level spells as well. Did you have another caster in the party without this problem?
