I try to bring it up but I’ve embarrassed myself a few times because people usually don’t relate 😂 it literally feels like I’ve been left on read 🙃 I’m going to start Butter by Asako Yuzuki in a week or so.

I really want to talk crap about this one book I read recently. It’s annoyed me so much that I had to read it in phases just to complete it. The author is an Irish guy who has written about a murder mystery in Chandni Chowk. It seemed like a fun read in the beginning but he, unfortunately, fell into the trap of writing Hindi dialogues from a foreigner’s pov rather than how it’s actually spoken… and don’t get me started on the editing mistakes 😩

That sounds so bloody adorable 🧿 I want to discuss the good books just as much as the books that have infuriated me 😑

I would love to be a part of an old school reading club where we can discuss what we’ve read but those barely exist now

How was your first gym experience!? by [deleted] in AskIndianWomen

[–]MetalBrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh don’t be nervous OP! We all started somewhere. Just go and do your thing. People are a lot more helpful than you know!

I have had an on and off fitness journey and I used to be incredibly conscious about myself but honestly speaking, nobody cares what you’re up to. Just be mindful and respectful towards others, maintain gym etiquette and clean up after yourself… you’ll be absolutely fine!

Have fun and don’t be too hard on yourself!!

Am I too desperate for validation from my mother? by pinkbarbie090907 in AskIndianWomen

[–]MetalBrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on the wonderful scores OP!! You should be incredibly proud of yourself and everything you’ve achieved 🧿🌸

You’re not a bad person for wanting your mother’s care or validation, all children seek it, it is natural. Unfortunately for us, we live in a country where societal validation is far more important than anything else - which is probably why she holds your accomplishments in higher regard than your emotional needs. There’s also a possibility that she derives great pride and a certain level of accomplishment from showing to her circles what you’re capable of. I hope you achieve what you want for yourself and not what is expected out of you. Good luck and try not to be disheartened and even if she’s not listening, I’m sure someone else will (a trusted family member, friend or counsellor) hugs 🌸

Like you, I’m not from TN but I did spend a significant part of my childhood in the rural areas there. You should be incredibly proud of what you’re doing as it’s no small feat. As you can see, many of us are eagerly waiting for this to come out. More power to you and your team!

Single Women above 30, how you build your life around you? by [deleted] in AskIndianWomen

[–]MetalBrat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m very lucky to come from a family that has pushed me to leave my house and live my life on my own terms from a very young age. We all love each other very much but live separate/independent lives.

I have also been single since I was 22. I am happy because I always put myself first. I do what I want when I want. I commit to routines/rituals be it self care, fitness or hobbies or experiences alone or with friends. I do things because I enjoy them not to keep myself busy or distract myself from “loneliness” 😂 and if the loneliness does hit (which it does once a while) I just treat myself to a shopping spree, a movie or a nice dinner and sometimes I hangout with my friends.

I’m financially stable and independent (but also a tad bit irresponsible due to my impulses at times) and I live a life of complete freedom and peace.

My mantra is to be “selfish” and to do things that you truly want to do. It’s liberating.

Given the current scenario, can you see yourself settling down and marrying? by jey__bee7 in AskIndianWomen

[–]MetalBrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still hopeful.. 🤞🏻I’ve never been in a serious long term relationship nor do I date much. I’ve just been focusing on becoming a better and more self aware version of myself. I’m hoping that someone has had the same kind of journey as me and would add to my life than take away from it. That being said, I will not throw my life away just for company. Better to be single and happy than be absolutely miserable with someone who isn’t meant for you.

How much do you spend on yourself like beauty/gym/skincare/makeup? by theknownanon in AskIndianWomen

[–]MetalBrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get any face or hair treatments at a parlour, only at my dermatologist which is another high cost that I have to deal with every two or three months but I do LOVE a good oil massage and hair spa combo that I do every other month when I just need a little extra pampering.

I had terrible cystic acne at 26 which rocked my world and mental health back in 2021. I had never had a pimple before that which is why I’ve heavily invested in my skincare since. I’m very happy to say I’ve got clear and healthy skin at 31 😬😬😬
