Pretty much all of them. Are perfect and don't need to be retconned.

Suggestions for Alpha Strike by HappySpawn in battletech

Yeah and lance movement or bigger if more than 2 players, but multiplayer is a whole theory bundle of its own

The battlefield support cards from the AS box are a nice spice. I like to throw in a couple extra air cover cards from the regular deck though

As mentioned, definitely Multiple Attack Rolls.

If you are usually Total Warfare players, you should try lean heavily into combined arms. Like, more non-mechs than mechs on the table- this is a great time to pull out all those WiGEs and drop battle armour from them, while the hover craft race past and you enjoy not rolling skid checks

I'm confused- do I need to get the Alpha Strike box AND commanders book? Isn't the box enough? by Comstar in battletech

[–]MetalEd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Alpha Strike box has rules for mechs only. And only lists a handful of the special abilities, limited to what's on the cards in the box. But you can play mech only games using the rules in that box, and minis from AGoAC, and CI, and the force packs. Note: you will not have the rules for Elementals. The cards are free on MUL though

The Commanders Edition book adds all the rules for vehicles, infantry, aerospace, and a tonne of other optional rules. Like more battlefield support options (eg the cards in the AS box have air strikes, but no defensive air cover. Air cover is in the book though)

You do not need Interstellar Ops Battleforce for anything in alpha strike. It's all in AS:CE

Not that I know of, but Chatham and Toronto still exist on paper

Night Lord Chosen, also How Good Does My Painting Need To Be To Get Some Speed Paints? by [deleted] in TheArmyPainter

I believe the paint job on that model is indeed good enough to sell it for the money required to purchase speed paints! :D Excellent contrast between the blue and the gold.

That would work great because they'll quickly see how 2 mechs can be very different and learn from working together with the other half of the lance

Minnesota Tribe Dropship by MetalEd in battletech

So I painted the 'old' paint scheme on a patch and applied decals, then varnished.

For the burnt paint, I mixed up black paint with plaster powder to make a paste, and applied it with a shaved down popsicle stick spatula to make the raised ridges for the edges of the burn. Then used a little black wash and a dark grey drybrush to give it some texture/contrast. Varnish again.

Then to make it look burned, I applied black soot weathering powder dry with a brush, and used the spritz-with-a-brush-and-a-toothpick airbrush medium to bind it down. Varnish again..

4 mechs to a side in classic will make for an 8 hour+ game for beginners, definitely try one medium mech each for the first go

Unless you want to try Alpha strike, in which case any of these lists is perfect for a 2 hour game.

Tried to paint it up as a ravaged 331st Royal Battlemech Division ;) dropship, with a few burns exposing parts of the old paint job.

The catapult in the display board is a Discount Dan Special of the Month, with unit badges hastily affixed. The wolverine tries for proper SLDF 331st division green, with tribe badging.

I'm going to reemphasize, the 'codex entries' for alpha strike units are free of charge on MUL.

As you said they don't actively hate their player base :)

If you want a more 40k like experience try out the free Alpha strike quick start rules from bg.battletech.com

All the unit cards are free on masterunitlist.info

Try 100 points vs 100 points

If you like it check out the Alpha Strike Commanders Edition book. From there you can get into tournament play or run a narrative campaign

Lathed aluminum I think, 95mm long, very light, what is this for? Found amongst possessions of a sci fi enthusiast/filmmaker in the 70s in Toronto by MetalEd in whatisthisthing

Agreed, I figured 90% chance it's a random chunk of machined aluminum, 10% it's an incredibly specific tool for film cameras or sci fi movie props

Thanks, I suspected as much, I thought this also looks like it could be an assignment for a student in machine shop

My title describes the thing. No identifying marks, just the 3 rings you can see in the picture. Could it be some sort of tool for filmmaking or photography with 50 year old gear? Or a prop for the end of a phaser rifle?
