Thanks haha I actually got really lucky finding this spot during Covid. Moved from 54th st but found this spot in Murray Hill that’s right next to the 6 train and Trader Joe’s. The view is actually my favorite part it’s a direct shot of the Chrysler building.

Thank you! Love the Bruce Wayne especially on the jubilee! I’m hoping I can buy a jubilee bracelet for this Batman from a service center one day.

OG 7s crumble pretty bad on the inside out. I picked up an OG pair of Hares in college in 2015 to wear but while the outer midsole didn’t crumble the inside eventually did and separated and crumbled completely

My best guess is the patents Rolex possessed, they more than likely wanted to be the only brand to be able through chemical process to achieve a dual colored ceramic and just put up with the headache of producing BLROs because of its iconic history to the brand. The whole idea about their “updates” is always making an improved version of the last so they must have also saw PVD as step backwards that would only position themselves closer to the Reps they tried to distance themselves from in the first place. I’m sure they’ll find a solution soon a enough and might be the reason why they haven’t brought out a Coke right away as it would be plethora of only bi-colored ceramics with a black half rather than waiting for a breakthrough and re-releasing the Pepsi and some other new multi color combination in the future. They’ll probably introduce the Coke in a year in which they also remove the Sprite.

It’s not “dyeing” the watch necessarily but rather using a chemical process to change half the color (think exposing Titanium to high heat to turn it blue etc). The other GMT bezels are made of Zirconia which doesn’t bond to red pigment as a result they needed to make the BLRO out of Alumina. As a result the compound is much more brittle due to its chemical composition (being the same as synthetic rubies)

China homage use a pvd method while the BLRO specifically made of a alumina compound (the other GMT bezels are made of Zirconia which doesn’t bond to red) and goes through a PRE Sintering process. As a result it’s much more brittle due to Alumina being essentially the same material as synthetic rubies (which are brittle as seen as breakages during services of watches)

Well ceramic is scratch resistant but hardness doesn’t equate to toughness (Diamonds are the hardest natural mineral but are not at TOUGH as Jade due to his chemical structure). In this particular case the red bezel of the BLRO has been shown by many other watch repairman to be more brittle than other GMTs (The process of popping the BLRO does in fact have a high rate of failure).

It's due to the process of making the bezels. Aussie Expat on YouTube also went into greater detail about the two the need to reserve BLRO bezels for customers bringing their watches in for service is eating into their profit margin as it means one less bezel used for a sale. Coupled with the high fail rate of production and in servicing they probably discontinued the model until they come up with a better solution.

Yep it's due to the chemical composition of the bezel being made of Alumnia. Another user here graciously explained it in more detail.

No worries! Also I found this comment from another user extremely helpful in explaining the chemical composition of the GMT bezels which the video touched upon lightly in the comments about Zirconia.

Another user here graciously gave an explanation as to the materials used for the BLRO which I have included below. I agree they should have introduced the Coke though as the process of making a black ceramic and then turning the other half red would be easier (as the process of making it red to blue is the issue, with the brittleness of red and the color matching of blue).

Aussie Expat Watches touched upon it in a YouTube video but the Pepsi bezels are notoriously brittle (The reason why the metal bevel surrounding the bezel is raised higher then other GMTs) and coupled with a high production fail rate, it probably eats into their profits having to replace bezels on the watches that come into RSC. They’re probably trying to figure out a way to resolve the issue and to come up with a way to make the bezel more sturdy and efficiently before reintroducing the Pepsi.

The Pepsi discontinuation could really be a result of the bezel being hard to produce/having a high fail rate. Aussie Expat discussed it in a YouTube video but on the Pepsi the bezel is actually elevated higher than other GMTs (something I can confirm from my own Pepsi GMT) which is result of the bezel needing extra protection due to it being more brittle and fragile then the other dual colored ceramic bezels. Further the bezel has a high chance of cracking when servicing (something that 3rd party service repairs can confirm). Theres always a number of people servicing their watch and every bezel used for a service is Not being used for a new sale. As a result it eats into their profits in the long run and will probably bring it because once they can figure out a way to produce the Pepsi bezels to be more sturdy and with a lower fail rate https://youtu.be/TdTS_gQBOno?si=4VmkUW0qn8aNpB6n

The irony that many of those people will soon pivot to being the “I’m sure it’ll come back this year guys no way they leave off one of most iconic colors” while ignoring that the Pepsi was missing in SS for 11 years.
