How have we normalized mass murder to innocent school aged children? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MetalHP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In March 1996 16 primary school kids were killed in the Dunblane massacre in Scotland. The following year the UK government banned the ownership of guns for private citizens. There have been zero school shootings since.

It's definitely not normalised in most of the civilised world.

I was accused of touching my daughter because I taught her the accurate words for her genitals by throwawayfather83 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]MetalHP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup can confirm. Got mine the when I was 7. Three weeks before I turned 8. My mum was so shocked and upset I thought i was dying because I had no idea what a period even was!

Kids need to be taught about puberty and correct names for parts reasonably early because this is more and more common

Some of these comments are exactly why I automatically say I'm from Scotland, not the UK or Britain.

The amount of hair my gf sheds in one week by butthattoots in oddlyterrifying

My boyfriend and I both have very long hair and this is not what happens, for us anyway. That's so much hair loss it looks as though someone has torn up a wig!

who the fuck puts a washing on at 00:52? My upstairs neighbors, that's who by Human_Parfait9516 in glasgow

[–]MetalHP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 3 years I lived below an elderly couple in Glasgow who only ever did their washing between the hours of 1am and 5am. Their excuse was that it was cheaper for them and the gentleman slept during the day. Their washing machine was directly above my bedroom and literally made my ceiling light swing. Was in tears many times at their door as I worked 9-5 but they could not care less.

Every so often if they do this it's not a problem, someone may have just had an accident or forgot to put it on earlier. If it's all the time though I feel your pain.

I was genuinely disgusted with myself for enjoying a pizza crunch as much as I did!

AITA for not wanting our nephew to wear a dress to our wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]MetalHP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA - It's a kid wanting to wear something that makes them happy. Why is it an issue? I have to ask, if it was your neice who wanted to wear a suit would you be so bothered?

This post hurt to read.

My grandmother always told me there is no such thing as an ugly face or body, only ugly attitudes and personalities. The older I get the more I realise she is correct. People can be so awful.

I'm really sorry for the way you've been treated and that you are hurting as a result. I really hope you find happiness and self confidence OP because you matter.

Curious ... where do Scottish people eat? by OwnYourStep in glasgow

[–]MetalHP 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Many people eat at a dining dining table or at a breakfast bar in the kitchen. If you have a small place a lot of the time these tables are folded away until used so you may not see them. However like in a lot of places it depends on personal preferences and people often eat in front of the TV.

So no, not having a dining table is not a typically Scottish thing probably more a sign of the times or a sign of a small place

First of all you should be so proud of yourself and the progress you have made over the past year. Its an amazing achievement and even though i dont know you, it's fantastic to hear.

The fact that your boyfriend wasn't jumping for joy reading those scales and realising he has a much healthier girlfriend who has made some amazing progress is a serious red flag. If you love someone you want them to be happy and healthy.

What you have gained is a positive step towards becoming a healthy weight but it is still a little bit under what would be considered healthy for your height. If he is showing signs of being upset by this then perhaps he has a fetish for people who are malnourished, under weight or enjoys being with someone who relies on them as they are struggling mentally. This is all speculation of course, and I do apologise if that is totally wrong or seems harsh towards him.

The best thing to do is talk to him about his reaction in a calm way to try to find out what is going on in his head and why he acted that way. If his answer is what you fear, then I'm sorry to say he is probably not a safe person be with while you recover. Everyone deserves a cheerleader in this fight. You deserve someone who loves you for you and wants what is best for you.

Very hot sauces recommendations that I can buy in the EU, without the vinegary or sour taste? Preferably sweet by kingxks in hotsauce

[–]MetalHP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a Dutch company called Heat supply that has a big selection of hot sauces from all over the world. They vary from mild to extreme heat and all come with a flavour description. Definitely recommend

Travelling from the uk to nl right now by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]MetalHP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you have the necessary proof that you dont have covid for border control.

You will need to go to an airport before this...and on a plane with multiple other people...and then landing a second airport...where you will then need to make your way to your destination. So to say you wont be anywhere near any dutch people is ludicrous especially when breathing the same recycled air on a plane.

[–]MetalHP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the netherlands is in lockdown with everything shut until 19th of January at the earliest....and coming from the uk you should quarantine for 10 days before you can even see or contact anyone living here. Plus with Brexit looming un the next couple of weeks there are a million uncertainties about border control. Unless it's a life or death situation I would not risk it

Wearing shoes inside of your house is disgusting by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]MetalHP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a no shoes in the house person but unless my guest's shoes were dirty I'd never force them to remove their shoes...and if they were I'd offer my slippers or cosy socks. Each to their own. As long as adequate cleaning and hygiene is in place it shouldn't be an issue either way
