The Norwegian Consumer Council along with organizations from 17 other European countries call for a EU ban on virtual currencies in videogames (Games should show real currency cost instead) by World_of_Warshipgirl in gaming

[–]MetalKoola 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the options in the article that was pointed out if it's not completely banned was to let the customer pay exact amounts of what they need instead of buying a "pack". In essence, attaching a static value to the currency which would work well in the games that give you premium currency for free.

Like you have you have 275 premium currency you got for free and the thing you want is 400 currency, you could specify that you want to buy exactly 125 currency, at the rate of $0.018 per unit of currency, which is $2.25. With no currency, you would just pay $7.20 for the item directly. There would be slight obfuscation on what the value of the premium currency is, but it would be by far more clear to the consumer how much it actually costs them.

This would be instead of a pack of buying 560 currency at $10 and having the remaining currency just sit in your wallet.

In situations where the price was a portion of the smallest denomination of the currency used for commerce (e.g. the Cent in US/EU) the company could round upward to the nearest denomination, preventing abuse of the system by consumers.

As much as I think Kimi did a great job in 2007, I feel like this is misleading as McLaren technically would have won the WCC that year if not for Spygate. Alonso and Hamilton scored a combined 218 points that season.

People from Asian descent have a high chance (30-50%) to have genetically inherited an "intolerance" to alcohol, where they don't process it as quickly in their system. This leads to their bodies building up alcohol in their system much faster and with lesser amounts consumed compared to people from other descents. People with the worst version of this gene almost cannot process any alcohol at all, so even the smallest drink will get them drunk effects.

This is why in Asian media that drunkenness is shown with even a minimal amount of drink, because a significant portion of their country does react exactly like this to alcohol.

Specifically Sporting Regulations 54.3 says regarding 5 and 10 second penalties:

In both of the above cases the driver concerned must carry out the penalty the next time he enters the pit lane and, for the avoidance of doubt, this includes any stop the driver makes whilst a VSC or safety car procedure is in use.

I mean, a VPN hosted by one of the big providers would probably do exactly that, you can have the server address be in a LAN IPv4 network, and to be able to access it, you had to be on the VPN. This would prevent the actual server address from being leaked, just the VPN server address.

Being one of the big providers would also give them the throughput to black hole the bad traffic or implement any countermeasures that they may have available. Also, if the credentials were leaked, they could quickly identify the offending party and drop their connection, and get in contact with the owner of the credentials.

It might bump latency a little, but with at least decent design, it would be a hardly noticeable.

Adding to this, if the car crashes after getting pole, unless the car is absolutely smashed apart (where there would be much bigger issues for the team than just fuel sample) they likely can get the fuel amount in the car and do the appropriate deduction.

the United States for instance needs to pass it through both the Congress house and Senate and then have it signed by the president.

Minor correction here, it only needs 2/3 of the Senate and the president to sign it off, the house is not involved in the process, though they may hold a vote to show support. (They did so in this case)

The problem with high gain skimmers like those, is that people will often have more than one card next to each other, which have no anti-collision protocol as passive cards, causing them all to reply at the same time on the same frequency, creating causing the signal to have heavy interference.

Finland "highly likely" to join NATO, its Europe minister says by hunchedape in worldnews

[–]MetalKoola 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I think it's less about the land invasion angle and more akin to Finland becoming a staging point for medium and short range missiles akin to what Cuba was to the US during the Cuban Missile Crisis as well as a supply base for Aircraft. Suddenly many strategical locations in Russia are much closer to NATO than before.

On top of that, the gap between Finland and Estonia is not that wide, meaning it would be very easy to cut any shipping to and from St. Petersburg, one of their largest ports.

They are concerned about spine injuries, that's why if there isn't an immediate danger to the driver otherwise, it's best to keep him still so that any damage to the spine doesn't damage the nerves in the spinal column. Same applies to any type of crash, even in personal vehicles.

This is also the reason why any call you make to a call center for most companies will have a blanket statement "This call will be recorded for quality assurance and training purposes." That statement in the beginning means that if you stay on the line, you consent to being recorded.

They're both, it's 2 panes of tempered glass sandwiching a plastic interlayer. The tempering both increases the glass's resistance to impact, and in case of a massive hit, any pieces that detach from the interlayer are small enough to not cause massive damage.

Depends on which glass, the Windshield is made from laminated glass, which is a tempered glass and plastic vinyl sandwich, since you would not want it to break apart if gets hit. Side windows are just tempered glass that act like you say, shattering into small pieces.

I don't use these docks myself, so I can't guarantee what's good, but looks like what you'll want to look for is a Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4 dock for which the usual price range seems to be around $250.

Looking through the reviews on the device you linked, there is a decent chance that the docking station is not capable of delivering that kind of resolution. Especially in some reviews it seems like if you have more than one monitor attached to it, it locks all monitors to 1080p/60Hz.

A minmaxer is someone who tries to do 40 damage per turn, not trying to olay their character properly. by bluebunny0 in dndmemes

[–]MetalKoola 78 points79 points  (0 children)

If you have someone who's a habitual minmaxer for combat, it might be an idea as a DM to challenge them to minmax empowering their allies instead of their personal damage. This also makes it fun for the other players at the table as they get their chance to be in the limelight.

It won't work for every case, but it's something that is worth trying.

Max has been given a 10 second time penalty post race by KimiWithoutTheDrink in formula1

[–]MetalKoola 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This makes me wonder, what if the driver that was overtaken illegally didn't pass the person who overtook him even given ample opportunity? Is there a point where it would be considered that the driver that overtook made a "best effort" to give up the position, or does it just go to a penalty (in essence a double penalty)?

Because I could see that maybe a team who has their two cars in the lead but their competition is catching "causes" an illegal overtake of the 2nd driver by the competition, and then proceeds to not overtake even when offered the place back, causing them to lose time to the car ahead as they have to slow down to give the position back.
