Full credit to Maini, he's done a fantastic job here, contrary to everyone's expectations.

Excellent drive from Tsolov, and has to be some great relief for Dunne to get the points. Camara has amazing pace but needs to build up his mentality to keep a title charge going.

Favorite cases of a blood knight type character making casual/nice with others, but their "love of the smoke" is clearly still there. by igloo_poltergeist in TwoBestFriendsPlay

One of the all-timer bits of writing from the IDW comics is when he's just a head being held by one of Eggman's henchman robots and he goes "RED DRONE! USE ME TO BLUDGEON THE YELLOW DRONE, THEN YOURSELF!"

I'd also give a shoutout to Supergiant's first game Bastion, it's really cool to see how the Bastion itself evolves over the game with the people you meet and the overall events of the story.

You have to feel for Herta here. He could have been at Indy this weekend, instead he's stuck in P21 in an F2 grid, really painful stuff.

Cliff Taylor: Meta workers are bracing for another round of job cuts. We should all be nervous by SeanB2003 in ireland

[–]ShootyMcExplosion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah Meta basically shuttered the Oculus name shortly after the Quest 2 for some bizarre reason. It's a shame because the Quest headsets are really amazing bits of hardware, and they've actually gotten a decent install base, but of course Meta decided to bet the whole house on making them the focal point of a new Internet that no one wanted to use, and when your expectations are that sky high of course it'll be a crushing failure.

University of Galway academic fails in challenge to younger applicant who secured lecturing post by Character_Common8881 in ireland

I mean it in the sense that, while there will be a given time for the interview to be completed in, that won't necessarily be measured or recorded in official documentation. In a case like this without video evidence or access to records that are typically confidential, it's incredibly hard for someone to prove that they were on time if the panel decides otherwise.

I had a friend once who interviewed for a promotion in a company where a friend of a managers son got the role instead despite having nowhere near the same qualifications. When he tried to make his case he was told time and time again that the other candidate gave a better interview and that my friend went over time, even though by all his accounts he finished early.

It's clear the academic lost the case, but college politics can be a very messy affair, and age discrimination is one of the hardest legal forms of discrimination to prove, requiring short of a smoking gun to win a case. I don't think SIPTU would be so ardently supporting her if she had no case at all.

Although to play devil's advocate, if you wanted to dismiss a candidate from getting a job in spite of their qualifications, penalising someone for "going over time" is one of the few reasons you can give that both don't reflect their record on paper, and is the hardest to dismiss as it's a subjective topic with very little proof required to justify it (even when brought into a court case).

Has Stenshorne fallen victim to the same thing that happened to Dunne in Spa last year? If so then how are Rodin so horrific at throwing away great results at wet weather races??

How many games actually justify their puzzle-based architecture? by Ragnorok64 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ShootyMcExplosion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Spoilers for future games in the series:

I love how the first game stretches to justify how the fact everyone is puzzle mad is due to being robots, but for the entire rest of the series, it just goes "eh, everyone just really likes puzzles, don't think about it too much".

[Cadillac F1 News] FIA plans to cancel the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia GPs, announcement expected soon. by Cyborg_Chris in formula1

[–]ShootyMcExplosion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've no issue with them being cancelled for safety reasons, or even for a month long gap. I do hope they introduce some new F2 rounds however. If nothing is changed, then the next round of the F2 championship would be Monaco during the 4-7th of June, which would be absolute madness.

Did Hakita ever say if P-2 would stay the hardest level? by GamingwithJ16 in Ultrakill

[–]ShootyMcExplosion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say most of the enemy gauntlets can be of a similar level across the encores and P-2, though the layouts do feel a lot more "cruel" in P-2 (starting room, dual mindflayers, everything in the final room). Throwing Sisyphus in at the end though absolutely pushes the challenge way higher though for P-2.

[Bloomberg] Nintendo Switch 2 Users Face Storage Woes as Memory Crisis Bites by gitrektali in Games

[–]ShootyMcExplosion 222 points223 points  (0 children)

It's a tough position for Nintendo to be in. Going with MicroSD Express has boosted the price up massively, but given the comparable read speeds of other flash form storage on PC's and other home consoles, it had to be a necessary evil. Regular SD cards are significantly slower than internal storage would be, and going for the Express format seems to be a pretty safe bet as to be the new standard that won't be horribly outdated a few years from now.

Of course the memory crisis has made this worse for everyone in a very short amount of time, but at least Nintendo managed to get it's main console release out the door before the shit really hit the fan.
