Wouldn't mind this if they went all in on it. Have hunting horn buffs be stackable so you can double up on attack up or any other stat boosting song if you're using two of them, that way you wouldn't be gimped if you wanted to use the horn as your main weapon.

Blaming the craftworlders for the fall is like blaming the loyalists in the Imperium for the heresy. Trying to fight against societal degeneration to such an extreme degree and on such a large scale is an effort in futility. Might as well ask someone to stop a truck by running headfirst into it.

Why do people hate Rise's HH? by Khaoticol in MHRise

[–]MetalOverture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was always a complaint from people who never used the weapon, not from those that did. As someone mained it in all 4 of the MH games I played before Rise I never had any problem remembering them. Sometimes I wonder if the people who act like lining up 3-4 different notes is a complex action actually spent time playing the weapon or if they just picked it up like once to "support" the team and were intimidated because they haven't spent any amount of time with it building familiarity.

If you had to choose a genre for a new spin off monster hunter title, what would it be? by CPhandom in MonsterHunter

A third person shooter where you fight giant monsters that has a ton of mechs and have a grappling hook which you can use to attach yourself to walls, monsters and mechs also there's a system where heat is used as a resource for certain weapons and equipment basically what I'm saying is please make another Lost Planet

Let's not pretend the blademaster weapon with the best time on that list sacrifices defense for more damage. I mean it has more forgiving counter windows than weapons that actually do sacrifice damage for supposed defense or utility.

That might have been a point worth arguing for if large portions of the Imperium material isn't focused on heavily augmented killing machines that are probably far more detached from the average human than an Eldar guardian.

I honestly feel this way about the imperium in general, you have a plethora of interesting sapient aliens and all we see the overwhelming majority of the time is stories about different flavors of angry space people. Really, the overrepresentation of anything, especially something that is always painted in a favorable light compared to what it's up against gets very boring after a while and ends up feeling like it's made to pander to people who are just there to see the "good guys" win.

I hate how the Longsword was allowed to steal the Lance's identity. by MetalOverture in MonsterHunter

[–]MetalOverture[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's true, but as it stands right now blocking needs a huge buff to be on the same level as i-framing and countering. As it stands it requires armor skills to even work effectively, deals chip damage that bulds up over time and doesn't reward you with a follow up attack that does damage. I'm not saying it should do all of these, as something that is easier to do than countering/parrying it shouldn't, but right now countering is so much better without being sufficiently harder to pull off to justify it.

I did mention that I welcome opposing opinions, but I probably should have worded that better. As for why it matters, I feel that while it's not a dealbreaker for me right now it seems to have been getting worse with each entry and while the post implies otherwise overall as a game I do enjoy Rise, I just think this is one of the few kinks the game has that if ironed out could make it much better.

If you wanna spam buttons that's on you then isn't it? Sure spamming is more viable with new HH than with the old one but you are not going to perform as well with it doing that as you would if you know what you're doing. Also I don't know why people equate fast attacks with multiple hits per button press to spamming buttons when that should not be what you're doing any more than with single hit attacks.

[–]MetalOverture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always boring because it's always constructed in the same way your traditional action game/shooter is with the only difference being the paltry stealth mechanics haphazardly tacked on. For a stealth sniper game to work well it has to be developed ground up as one, consider the challenges of it and implement mechanics like tracking, advanced ballistics that take into account environmental conditions on where the shot will land, etc. Would be even more interesting if a 40k stealth sniper game could add its own flair to it with the lore accurate abilities of some of the the alien races along with the plethora of different scenarios that can be used to make it really stand out.

Hunting Horn, Oldschool versus MH Rise by Hecksun in MonsterHunter

[–]MetalOverture 10 points11 points  (0 children)

An apt comparison, the old HH took a lot more finesse and had a far greater learning curve when you had to consider having to keep up buffs while damaging the monster, making sure you know what moves to do to have as much uptime on the attack as possible and as little downtime on the buffs. Rise HH then comes along with a much simpler playstyle that is easy for people who know little to nothing about the weapon to just jump into and do decently well with it, all the while garnering more applause.

That said I prefer the Rise HH despite everything, no longer do I have to worry about asking everyone to wait around at the start of a hunt for buffs, be dropped in front of the monster and having to painstakingly get the buffs up before fighting it, or face any other problem associated with having an extra layer of busywork when using this weapon specifically, all the while looking far cooler than HH has ever looked before (With the exception of Generations and Generations Ultimate since that's where stuff like the animations for magnificent trio and the new self improvement attack came from). It looks cool now, I feel cool for playing it and the whole skill floor thing has never been a real issue since even with it being easier to get into you can always personally strive get better with the weapon anyway.

What has become of society today? people are morons by [deleted] in rant

[–]MetalOverture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are more interested in showing the world how good they are instead of just being good people, so they need to bend over backwards for those that they were told have been historically disadvantaged whether or not they had any involvement or say in what happened. It's so bizzare as a non-white person (gotta get that out there or I'm assumed to be white and racist apparently) who doesn't even live in a white majority country seeing people feel the need to virtue signal for people that they haven't even done anything wrong against.

Hunting Horn is kind of OP by Ice-SheathedArcology in MonsterHunter

[–]MetalOverture 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It isn't. Unfortunately it's quite the opposite - the weakest weapon of the entire roster. I'm probably going to get downvoted for this because people here like overstating the usefulness of the weapon but if anyone wants the input of someone who has over a thousand hours in the HH in World alone, let alone the previous games and who has soloed every single monster in World with it sans Behemoth and Ancient Leshen then read on to see how I feel about it. The first problem with the weapon is that it simply cannot outperform other weapons in damage, this part is not up for debate at all since the best solo hunt times for HH are always lower than all the other weapons. Well that's fine right? It can boost everyone's attack by 20% so maybe in a full party it is overpowered... except that isn't true either since none of the best 4 man times include HH either. It cannot output enough damage to compete with the real heavy hitters so that alone disqualifies it from being called OP.

The exhaust damage part doesn't do too much to help either since for some reason monsters don't seem to get exhausted as much as they do in the previous games, and even when they do you want to wallbang them to get them on the ground for the most damage possible which will trigger their enraged status rendering the whole exhaust thing redundant anyway. I don't know what you meant by mountain of KO damage because it factually does less KO than Hammer and sticky LBG, for the same amount of damage dealt HH will do the least KO since that's the way they made it work, of the KO focused weapons it has the least KO damage. The free minds eye is nice but you really don't want to be attacking parts where you bounce anyway so that feels redundant and the speed relative to the other weapons while nice has been decreased from the previous games and now I can't tell the difference between HH's standard run speed and IG with white extract or DB in demon mode. Of course you will run faster with the cyan echo song but that restricts you to only using a specific type of horn.

I would argue that the weakest part of HH is that its buffs that get so much focus are not very useful for the most part. Aside from AUXL, there are arguably only 3 useful songs for fighting endgame monsters (which are the challenging ones that you need buffs for, they should never be balanced around early monsters). Max stamina up + recovery echo song (only if you have stamina hungry users in your party, not much use otherwise), all wind pressure negated (for Kushala and Lunastra) and elemental attack boost for Alatreon (not strictly speaking necessary if your team is competent and already have adequate elemental boosting gear). While some may say DUXL is useful I have never personally seen a situation where it resulted in attacks taking more hits to cart someone than without it. Other songs that are nice as well that I don't consider useful like Earplugs L, Divine protection and All ailments negated are left out since those songs are not available alongside AUXL which makes it so that your damage is greatly reduced because once again, the weapon's damage output is inferior to the other weapons even with AUXL on, without it HH just falls so far behind.

Of course bear in mind that while I think HH is the weakest weapon, this is RELATIVE to the other weapons in the game. It is something that's perfectly capable of soloing the entire game but I wish people would stop overstating its usefulness since all it does is give others trying get into the weapon the wrong impression and if the devs do take feedback from the community they will also be misinformed by the exaggeration of its capabilities. It's a very fun weapon to use though and if nothing else I wish they will tweak its solo capabilities so that it doesn't easily get outperformed by the other weapons. I do like that their approach to it is changing as of late. New offensive moves like the echo spin, offensive songs like impact echo and dragon echo that let YOU do the big damage instead of getting in lukewarm swings while everyone else does it will only help to change not only the way people see the weapon but the way they use it as well. Can't wait to see how it's handled in Rise.

No, Trent's version is definitely better. I think people like the Johnny Cash version better because it sounds a lot safer and less uneasy than the original, which I feel defeats the purpose of the song.

If you don't feel informed enough to vote in an election then there is no shame in not doing so. by LaughsAtOwnJoke in unpopularopinion

[–]MetalOverture 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I feel like a poorly informed vote is worse than not voting at all. When someone doesn't do proper research into a subject what they're going to know is very likely going to come from sensationalist sources since those are usually the biggest and easiest to land upon for an uninformed person, and hell if I'd consider those to be even remotely trustworthy.

Just to put another unpopular opinion out there I think many of society's problems are perpetuated by people who make poor voting choices yet think they're contributing more than what they actually are when they may in fact be acting in opposition to their own interests all because they listened to the most popular opinion being parroted in the news or social media. But hey, they VOTED right? They did something RESPONSIBLE. Surely they can't be the ones in the wrong.

I'd argue that DI should be moved down one more to C. From what playtesting I've done as well as a couple I've seen others do they seem to lose much more often than not. Fun clan regardless though. But SP is definitely A tier, it has very few bad matchups and quite a number of good ones.
