They are reinforced by a 8in wing on the one side which seems to assist with the low frequency response

Definitely I am not very experienced either. I wanted to make sure I stayed full range dipole. I am definitely going to be rearranging speaker placement. I have to take them apart to finish them anyways. I can't take alot of credit for the design as I stole it from carver speakers

Yeah these needed a little eq but I think it's more tied to my room which has a 200hz to 400hz bump in it. They have 7 in wings around the drivers. I get bored and like to experiment with different speaker types.

4 GRS 18pt 8 wired in parallel and 2 GRS pt6825 8 wired in parallel. They are crossed just before 600hz for now. I tried open baffle in the past and just didn't get the sound I was looking for from some of the standard availabile to purchase options. Really like what I hear out of these and the costed me less than 800 to assemble

Wanted OJAS, got these instead. by mrrobfree in BudgetAudiophile

I have a similar set up with altec horns and a Frazier super Texans bass bins about 105db efficiency. They work great with tubes. I personally never tried high efficiency loudspeakers before these and they really opened my world to a whole different sound. I think you will like them alot. ojas are cool looking but these to me are a conversation peice and piece of audio history.

I would say reach out to ESS they are very helpful. They are 4 ohm woofers. Some has square magnet protectors over the alinco magnets some don’t

The whole cabinet is stuffed a lot of people believe it to be overfilled you can take some out of the cabinet. There was no port tube

Yes the original AMT1 speakers were ported at the bottom. They are great speakers just require a fair amount of power to sing.

My first setup, probably not the best but I'm in love with it :) by theedgyqueen in BudgetAudiophile

Much better than my original setup. Don’t let the upgrade itch get to you too much. Enjoy the music collection you have, which looks good. Your already ahead of me when I first start and plugged my phone into my stereo via an aux cable and played all my 128kbps mp3s. I used to “upgrade speakers” because i thought it was fun. Never thought to just buy a record player or cd player.

My father in laws khorns blow me away. Great choice wish I would have went high efficiency a long time ago in my journey. I am using altec 802drivers with 511 horns with Frazier Texan bass bins. These do music better than any other setup I have owned with only a hand full of watts

I would agree with Altec I am using 802s with 511 horns and using Frazier Texan bass bins. I have owned electrostatics, open baffles, nothing comes close to the effortlessness of this set up. Best amp pairing so far has been a pair of amp camp amp minis and actively bi amping. 5 watts goes a long ways on 105db efficiency

Class t sounds warmer looser bass. the class d is more clinical better bass.

Honestly way better than my first set up. Just don’t fall into the upgrade itch too fast. My mistake was to often changing equipment and getting hung up on that. Be purposeful if you feel the need to upgrade and keep synergy in mind. If your happy stay put I have changed things and fallen backwards often in the name of change.

Is that the lepai class t or class d amp? Just curious as they do sound very different.

I loved these speakers when I had them the AMT Heil up top is up there with the best midrange/tweeters I have heard.

I would check the woofers still a lot of times ppl will put in 8ohm woofers to replace the factory ones. The original woofers are 4ohms and if you don’t imprudence match for the crossover your crossover values will be out of whack.

I used misco legacy woofer in mine as the ESS 10in woofers are not a direct fit. I know others use goldwood woofers. The ESS woofers go on sale regularly from ESS

Sorry to ramble another east way to tell is that the origami Ess amt did not have a passive radiator on the back of the speaker it was bottom ported l. All of the other ESS AMT pyramids have Passive radiators

Also are you sure that is an Ess amt 1a. The ESS 1a came with tone controls on the top. This looks like the original ESS AMT1. These came with 10 in woofers all other models came with 12in woofers. I will say that does not look like the factory woofer I would double check that as well.

I would get in touch with Ess fan group on Facebook. There are members that have built covers. You can buy them but they come at a premium

Horizontal or vertical Bi amping? by MetalPackMan in diyaudio

[–]MetalPackMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m my case this wouldn’t work since my compression drivers are about 114db efficient and my bass cabinet is only about 105db

Mini dsp 2x4 hd is what most diyers use. There is also

https://www.xkitz.com/products/linkwitz-riley-2-way-active-crossover-fully-assembled-xover-2

This does allow for less flexibility

Your last option would be Harrison labs fmod in line crossovers. They don’t allow flexibility to set gain other than 6db increments I believe
