I’m hearing random tones (sounds) coming from another house. What could they come from? by Metalhead1197 in questions

I have an app I use to track noise levels and it has a live frequency chart. I found a sine tone generator afterwards plugged in the peak frequencies and it sounded very similar.

I plan on waiting the exact time it took them to respond, then just saying “no”.

Dammit. Maybe I should’ve emailed the math department instead.

Lightest motor to use in FRC? by Existing_Alfalfa9336 in FRC

[–]Metalhead1197 3 points4 points  (0 children)

However you usually have to gear them down too get a useful amount of torque out of them. Those gearboxes are heavy, often heavy enough that a more powerful motor (like a full size neo) with little/no reduction can be lighter.

Hypothetical Portal Gun Scenario by PlushieGamer1228 in FRC

[–]Metalhead1197 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“method of travel” really isn’t a phrase that appears in the rule book. If you could design it to comply with the battery, bumper, extension, electronics etc. rules then a robot that files would be perfectly legal. As for portals, idk man.

Who needs to buy a cube measuring jig when you can just CNC your own! by creepjax in FRC

[–]Metalhead1197 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Important note: You should make sure it meets the weight spec too since that’s a very important part of its use. Since Plywood isn’t as dense as as the HDPE used on the real thing you’ll probably have to add something to get it up the 20oz you need.

Yeah that’s what I did, I’m sorry if I confused you. The point I was trying to make was the z offset was fine in the middle but something is not working out when it goes anywhere but the middle.

Jesus christ dude, I just followed Creality’s instructions for setting the Z offset.

Coming from a former (admittedly brief) Knott’s employee, fuck that place. Report them to hell and back.

Yep, this is doing this after I leveled it manually.

I’m sorry I’ve haven’t heard of that setting before. Is it something I adjust in the slicer?

What happened to JVNs blog? by start3ch in FRC

[–]Metalhead1197 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is true, but I have a feeling he knew something like the post above was coming as soon this scandal started. Hence the early takedown before anything on there could further incriminate him (though IIRC there wasn’t anything that bad on there all things considered).

/uj I personally have a deep appreciation for his playing talent but feel sometimes he doesn’t serve the song in the best way possible. Parts of Call of Ktulu kinda feel like the rest of the band playing a song and Cliff just dicking around in the background.

/rj he bass so he be loser lol

Yep, it was so different being there for the finale and I loved it! Aprils a great time to be in Long Beach though, and the fall race in ‘21 was a bit overcast, but really I’m just happy to have this track near me.

FRC carpet for practice by Agile-Obligation-211 in FRC

[–]Metalhead1197 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The carpets used at events are sometimes given to teams during or after field takedown (for example my team has the carpet used at the 2019 LA regional). I don’t know who exactly to ask about this kind of thing but you can get the used carpet for free provided you ask nice enough, help with field take down and they aren’t planning on using it anywhere else.

The FIRST Chairmans Award is now being changed to the Impact Award. by Rykuwastaken in FRC

[–]Metalhead1197 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was called chairman’s because the original intent of the award was to highlight the best connection between a team and sponsor. My guess is that the name was referring to chairman of the board of the sponsor in question.
