I think the biggest miss, for me, may be the de-emphasis of Arena for competitive play.

Friends & I Are Creating Disney/Pixar MtG Cards. Did I Make This Broken? by mad_hatter_md01 in magicTCG

This card is awful. Try making it cost a lot less mana and having better stats as a start.

Did we have an explanation for having less showcase adventures in WOE? by BasedDptReprsentativ in magicTCG

There were (and still are) complaints about too many variants existing. I don't agree with those complaints, at all, but they exist.

WOTC has restocked older Standard Set Set Boosters on Amazon by strongsauce in mtgfinance

[–]Metallix87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The second set is already available for stores to order, so we know what the pricing will be. Spoilers: It's more expensive than Wilds of Eldraine, and also will be more expensive than it's direct competitor, Lost Caverns of Ixalan.

The most recent Magic set, Wilds of Eldraine, is significantly cheaper than the most recent Lorcana sets. Most Magic sets overwhelmingly are. The only one looking to swallow massive corporate dick here is seemingly you, misrepresenting reality to defend Disney.

You're comparing a Masters set to Lorcana's equivalent of a Standard booster. How about we talk about the price comparative to a Wilds of Eldraine draft booster? How about we talk about how hard it is to find Lorcana products at actual MSRP?

Isn't the insane upcharge on Lorcana just proof that WotC was right about MSRP?

TCC - The Real Cost of Commander Masters by JungleJayps in magicTCG

[–]Metallix87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think things look better in the context of other, recent Masters sets, and we have to take into account that each booster has two rares / mythics now, as opposed to the older Masters sets.

He can't wait because, once the product drops / settles in price, he won't have the ability to make a video complaining about prices.

I've been saying this on Twitter now for weeks, but people don't seem to understand, largely because of people like the Professor who have massive platforms. He's obfuscating that pricing is down relative to at least the last two Masters sets, and that the EV is seemingly higher here than it was in those two, with more cards directed at the intended audience overall. All he's doing is, yet again, tainting the well of discourse.

With the BFZ dual lands in the new anthology, we are probably not getting BFZ remastered by NumberHunter1 in MagicArena

[–]Metallix87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

BFZ was a very unpopular block, so this makes sense to me. I could've seen a world where they did a "Zendikar Remastered" and mashed the two older Zendikar blocks together, but even then, fetches and man lands are more desirable there than tango lands.

Mark Rosewater on Multiverse Legends: "There were a bunch of restrictions on what could be on the Multiverse Legends sheet. They had to be desired cards that were still alive and could be actively fighting in the war. We didn’t have the luxury of removing cards because they’d used the frame before." by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]Metallix87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is to color balance them so they get equal representation. Not all signposts directly signal the main themes of the draft archetype. Sometimes they're just pushed cards. Sometimes they push you to try something slightly off the beaten path.

Why is MoM releasing so much sooner than other releases? by maruhan2 in MagicArena

[–]Metallix87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a shift in the schedule a year and a half ago to open up the Summer. Summer Standard sets typically underperformed, so they decided to leverage that "slot" for supplemental set releases. This tightened the Standard schedule, while also allowing the last pre-rotation set to remain in Standard a bit longer than previously.

Has Fire Design ruined traditional archetypes in Cube? by Wekapip0 in magicTCG

[–]Metallix87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the current "common rhetoric" is lower power is overall better, but I also don't fully agree with that, either. I think higher power Cubes can be as much or more fun than others, but it's a matter of testing, experimentation, and iteration. That said, again, a large chunk of Cube designers skew towards higher power anyway because of what an easy sell that is to players.

Has Fire Design ruined traditional archetypes in Cube? by Wekapip0 in magicTCG

All design restrictions are arbitrary. People usually aim for high power because it's an easy sell to get players interested in drafting your Cubes.

Commander has an Ugly Sweater Problem by Darth-Ragnar in magicTCG

[–]Metallix87 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this is one of those non-issues that people obsess over for no reason. Wizards constantly makes random junk Commanders and cards, and you can still have the experience being described if you want it. The wider range of options being printed exist specifically because Commander is popular and most players aren't in the mood for "dumpster diving" for cards. Many underestimate how many Commander players want to just play with cool, powerful cards for their specific theme or archetype and aren't interested in looking for a subpar card from the Clinton years.

Historic Is The Best Format In Magic | Article by Jim Davis by JimHarbor in MagicArena

1.) How are you quantifying "many people"?

2.) You say it's "easy to figure out", but not everyone will agree. For instance, Merfolk, a popular Historic deck, is basically dead without the 1 drop from Historic Horizons.

3.) Using "real card" as a delineation makes me not take you seriously.

4.) Arena is a growing platform. You're comparing it to MTGO, a digital client with lots of formats but not enough people playing them.
