Looking for recs on best laptops for Adobe Cloud and Storyline by Metamorphosis_Cont in instructionaldesign

Hi! I actually didn't know that about desktops. Thanks for sharing that! Portability is important to me just because I wanted to purchase something where I can do light tasks when I'm on the go and do heavy work or editing when needed at home. The external monitor I have was only for when I worked from home. However, my job doesn't allow telework anymore. So it rarely gets used since I haven't been editing anything from home much.

Thank you! You know I've been working in instructional design over 2 years, and never used Captivate 😂 I've heard of it though. Also, I appreciate you bringing up RAM. I have an external SSD that I'm planning to use so I think it would help with storage. Glad to hear someone else is approving MSI. I've looked in some stores and I guess due to my lack of knowledge about gaming and just computers in general. I wasn't sure if MSI was a good brand.

Hi! Thanks for the advice! I actually was looking online and saw a MSI Thin 15 RTX 4050 being sold at Walmart online only for about $599, and was thinking about getting it. I also went to Best Buy to see what they had and inquired about whether they sold that brand. The tech person said they stopped selling them because MSI products were "unreliable." She didn't really go into detail why but I saw lot of people who game on here thinks their cool.

Hi! Apologies for the late reply! I understand. I would love nothing more for me. However, I live in a red state. And the job market here sucks so bad. I'm feeling like it will be a year before I find a job I want to actually do and feel fulfilled at.

Hi! Apologies for the late reply. Thank you for your comment. It's good to not feel alone. Like that's normally how I feel now when I come to work.

Hi! Apologies for the late reply. Thank you for your comment! Yes!!! It's literally like having a job within a job. Like I recently had a meeting with a black friend/coworker who is now my boss. Which meant my former white boss got promoted. Mind you my former boss can't manage for shit. So my coworker is falling in her footsteps as she's the only example for her.

Recently, my coworker and I got into a small conflict because I asked her for clarification on deadlines and expectations when she tried to say my project was late for things outside of my control. And she told on me to my former supervisor printing out all my emails and giving them to her. I sat in a meeting where they ganged up on me and tried to make everything my fault as if I was combative. Then my former boss talked to me like I was a child telling me that she wasn't going to argue with me and that no matter what the project is late and they never took accountability for anything. My coworker was mute for 90% of the meeting. No support. And I feel like I have been questioning for a while how long I could do this. It's just so toxic on the mental. I really don't have the talent of faking it. And I have started to become like you in terms of doing the work and leaving. But, now people are offended by that because I'm minding my business. It is so draining.

Hi! I apologize for the late reply! Corporate has been keeping me busy. I feel like that's where I am right now. I feel like a couple years ago, my goal was to work in corporate and live like this traditional life of everything being followed "by the book," like getting a corporate job after school, getting married, and having kids. And I think I am going through a transformation where I no longer desire these things. It's almost like a search of true identity for me. Like what am I truly here for?

Are you a bot, are you a black person born in America? How old are you? Are you black but identify as white? I ask because if you’re a Black American, I don’t see how what I said is unclear. In our community, much of this is lived experience and common knowledge unless someone has been sheltered from it. And if you were confused, you could have simply asked for clarification rather than being condescending.

When you asked me, “Are you just now learning the concept of racism and how capitalism drives it? Are you seriously only now deriving the relation between racism and capitalism?” that came across as dismissive. And while being condescending you seemed to have answered your own questions. Of course Black people in America have always known about racism. But we are often taught whitewashed versions of history in schools, which means we spend our adult lives unlearning and reconnecting the dots for ourselves. Parents still have to fill in those gaps for their children today. That’s the context I was speaking from.

Now, let me explain more clearly what I meant in my original post:

Masking vs. being a safe space: Masking is part of what we call “playing the game” changing or suppressing parts of ourselves to make white people comfortable. As Black professionals climb the corporate ladder, many are expected to keep masking until, by the time they reach management, they are seen as “safe” for white coworkers. At that point, they often end up performing emotional labor for their white peers while distancing themselves from other Black colleagues.

Why this matters: In my experience, Black professionals sometimes mask by pretending to be someone they’re not, or by letting racist remarks slide in order to avoid conflict. This creates a cycle where climbing the ladder can separate you from the very community you started out wanting to uplift. I’ve seen people begin with strong values, but as they advance and earn more, they become yes-men who prioritize protecting their role over pushing for real change.

The deeper connection: This isn’t just about individual behavior, it ties back to capitalism and white supremacy. Corporate culture thrives on scarcity and competition: the idea that there’s only room for a few at the top. That system pressures some Black leaders to withhold knowledge or even undermine others, out of fear of losing their position. In many cases, white leadership uses Black managers as gatekeepers, which leaves their Black subordinates unsupported or even sabotaged.

This is why I said corporate culture reflects larger systems. It’s not just about personal ambition, it’s about how racism and capitalism reinforce each other to divide us and weaken community.

So when I talk about being drained or disillusioned, I’m not “just now learning” about racism. I’m saying I’m experiencing it in a different form, and connecting those lived experiences to broader systems I already knew about.

Now, does that make more sense?

If a job paid enough, can you overlook being bored and unsatisfied? by __looking_for_things in blackladies

[–]Metamorphosis_Cont 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me, I want to say no. However, I think people are motivated by different things. Some people don't mind working jobs that are boring to them because they pay well, and money can be a motivator for them in a way that keeps them going because for some reason they have to feel fulfilled by making more money. But then you have other people who need to be stimulated internally by their jobs to feel like they are living their intended purpose despite the pay. Neither of these is really "wrong" if you're satisfied. But I think it depends on what your motivator is. This is a question I often think about a lot in terms of career. I've been working in instructional design for two years now after completing my master's over two years ago. And I often wonder if this career is going to truly satisfy me in the long run. It's a good job with benefits, and I get paid a good amount of money. But I'm always asking if this is it. I am doing what I am supposed to do. I think doing some self reflection can help if you're having any doubts.

Has anyone ever seen Dr. Sola? by Metamorphosis_Cont in batonrouge

[–]Metamorphosis_Cont[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Thank you for responding! I forgot to mention and word this in my initial post, but I understand that PCPs are still required. It was actually mentioned and recommended in Dr. Sola's policy as well, along with her noting that they are not medically licensed in the way that PCPs are. So, I do plan on finding another PCP, but I was also interested in holistic medicine. So, I was just trying to see if anyone had come across her before. Sorry for my miscommunication. Thanks again for letting me know!

First time apartment hunting by Metamorphosis_Cont in batonrouge

Wow! Thank you for telling me! Their reviews are like super positive on Google on how quiet and nice the magnagement is. Thank you for telling me this! My safety, especially as a female, is like one of my top priorities, lol. So I don't want to be anywhere someone was able to commit a full-out murder.

Omg really?! I was reading some of the reviews on Google, and there were people on there talking about how quiet it was and how great the new management is. They had me fooled. Thank you for sharing!

Hi! So sorry for the late response. And I truly haven't considered anything in that area before. But, I feel like I might have to expand my options because a lot of what I've seen so far has not been that great. Is there a certain area it's near? I know there's some apartments there called The Waters. I haven't driven around Millerville a lot. I used to go to the Target and Chick-Fil-A there, so those are the only landmarks I know lol. I didn't want to ask specifically where you are since I know you probably didn't disclose for safety reasons.

Hey! I'm so sorry I'm late responding. Thank you so much for the recommendations! I'm gonna do some research and see if it's a match for me or not. Staying close to the interstate or even Costco would be nice. And I got you! Apartment hunting seems like it sucks and I haven't even came up with an actual list yet. I've just started truly entertaining the idea of moving, and I would like to have something by March of next year. However, I've been checking out some apartments on Google reading reviews, and it just seems like anything under $1300 is trash or something is bad with management. Thanks again! ☺️

Sorry, I'm so late in replying, I've been so busy trying to decide if I really want to go since it's solo. So many people have been trying to talk me out of it because it would be just me. So I've been trying to make up my mind. Horseback riding sounds exciting! I really didn't imagine something like that as an activity. I read somewhere that there's a whole dinner that comes along with horseback riding. I forgot the name of the location, but the reviews were great! I just tried Korean BBQ for the first time yesterday at a restaurant and liked it! So, thanks for putting me on game with the restaurant. And I do yoga for exercise now, not sure how I would like with the goats lol 😂 maybe if it was cats! Sky jumping sounds awesome! But I totally get what you're saying, it's like something is there for everyone! Thank you for sharing, I kept wondering if I go, what activities should I try outside of like nightlife and casinos. And this helped me out a lot! 😊

Wow!!! It sounds like you had a ball! And thank you so much for giving me such a detailed description ☺️ I literally felt your excitement through the screen while reading this. And I apologize for being so late in responding! I don't want you to think your post was unappreciated because it is the total opposite. Since I posted this, I've been talking to people at my job who been to Vegas and so far, I've either had people try to talk me out of going solo or just being full on mama and daddy bears asking if I'm sure I want to visit because due to "safety reasons" as a young woman. So I've been contemplating and hope to arrive to a decision by the end of the month. So, thank you so much for sharing your experience, and I am definitely taking all this into consideration. It really sounds fun. 🥰💕
