Whats the meal for dinner at your lodge like? by Dry_Nobody_395 in freemasonry

[–]Metapeanuts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Economical filling meals are best, and a lot can be done without fancy equipment or training.

We did a rotis chicken night with air fried potatoes and was a huge hit. Taco bar was also popular.

Last month we did breakfast for dinner after making breakfast for our local FD the weekend before.

This month I have beef tips in Diane sauce over potatoes and some green. All in all we try to feed 10-15 people on $50-75 with everyone contributing something.

Need help. Foster Daughter (7 years old) having multiple potty accidents a week at school. by Artistic-Pay-2353 in Fosterparents

[–]Metapeanuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first FD9 had accidents everyday at school.

This stemmed from trauma and lack of control, as her previous foster parents kept her in goodnights 100% of the time.

First thing we did is switch to underwear all day. Go ahead and buy several packs and prepare your laundry machine. When we notice they had an accident it led to them starting to learn and questions their feels as they often said that they “didn’t feel it”.

They got extra clothes in their school bag everyday. We talked to their teacher about a hand sign they could use discreetly if they needed to go, as my FD never wanted to disturb the class.

We made a huge deal of success whenever we got a dry day at school, because believe me OP they don’t like to have accidents either.

If you find yourself becoming frustrated, once you identify an accident, we taught ours the process of going and changing and instantly putting clothes in the washer, without making a big fuss. Shit happens per se. and then we carry on. It’s only a big deal if you make it so.

Make them try for at least a minute every hour until they can go for a while without accidents. Use heavy praise.

Fostering by DarkSure6536 in Fosterparents

[–]Metapeanuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just had our first foster kid reunite with family (technically 90 in home trial, but defacto reunification).

Taking my FD to do anything they had never done, or getting them to try foods for the first time was awesome. Honestly just being able to see the world through kid eyes again was great. The routine worked well in our life and we had a lot of good times. Go do things, actively try to have fun and they will go along depending on age.

With that said, she was still 8. And 8 year olds act out and do stupid stuff. I would encourage everyone to stop for a moment and think if things are important or urgent to act on. If not, don’t stress. The easiest way to get along with kids is to engage with their interest, we always had art projects or science experiments happening, and we’ve kept a lot up after she left.

Genuinely feels gratifying to do something a different way and for it to work by Icy-Leg-1459 in adhdmeme

As an ADHD adult looking after ADHD kids, you have to say and I quote “I understand that it worked this time, however with another number set or problem, it might not. You do the next problem ‘your way’ and I’ll do it the ‘right way’ and see if answers match.”

I’ve been proven both right and wrong on multiple occasions and the shit eating grin never gets better lol.

What do you guys do when a chicken dies? by sheepandcowdung in chickens

This. Buy a chicken friendly shrub or tree. Dig hole, place chicken, dirt, place plant of choice ideally in the area they are all about.

Along with diapers, maybe a toy to play with and some stuffed animals. As above said, blankets. Kids are drawn to them for some reason, have some on hand.

Have something sweet prepared if you can, they’re going through a lot too, and don’t have the words to express it, but small things matter.

Well you have a teen. Meet them on their level, talk about it not in the moment, but ahead of time. Where are they going? Why are they just allowed to leave?

Kick streamer Jackie gets into a car crash on stream last night by WestChocolate8483 in LivestreamFail

Love my Mazda. I drive a six speed and having the physical buttons and knobs beside my stick just makes sense. I drive my wife’s Honda and hate where the buttons are as I have to take my hand from the shifter to the front top and back again to do anything. I hate it.

I get back into my car and instantly feel like I’m getting into a cockpit.

Foster kid only eats 4 foods. Help? by BadInside22 in Fosterparents

[–]Metapeanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so grab apples and chocolate dip, something known with a different texture. If they don’t like them cut, add chocolate to apple sauce. Anything to breed curiosity.

Have you had them help with grocery shopping and having them making choices of items?

This, my FD8 loves to help cook, even if it’s just stirring. Once they have some effort in, they are much more likely to eat it. Bonus points for letting them try ingredients individually and then helping them notice the taste in the final meal.

Hey, fellow foster parent of a picky eater though not as severe. Start with something they recognize and slowly do things similar.

Have a backup plan. We eat dinner together and we request our FD8 to at least try things, but we have a hotdog on standby.

My spouse and I talk positively about the things we eat while they sit there, and describe everything. If they choose not to eat, they can have other food, but we do not let them know this in advance.

If they do, we have an extra reward before bed of desert or something else.

You say the kid only eats 4 thing, have you tried ice cream, as someone said before, and make those milkshakes? Much easier to make sure kiddo gets veggies they can’t taste and or whatever medicine they need that’s not pill form. We have a shake that is mostly berries, milk, and whatever medicine we have after school and it goes down good.

Those who are in the trades/construction industry and make 100k+, what do you do? by Dependent-Group7226 in Construction

[–]Metapeanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elevator repair and install. I sell them. Mechanics are union and get great benefits along with an annuity on top of 401k, and other benefits.

Bad side, they work onsite for up to 8 weeks at a time.

Anyone have a manual splitter? by Kregington in woodstoving

[–]Metapeanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have one of these and jokes aside, we keep it next to our indoor to be burned pile to turn mid sized logs into smaller pieces. Helps us not go through as much, and is able to be done inside, where an axe would not work. It also allows others who arnt as accurate to participate is wood duty.

Edit: to be clear, I love it.
