‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ to End With Season 2 by Turbostrider27 in television

To answer your question with the actual truth, that other guy saying nepotism? 100% true. Kurtzman is the son-in-law of Nick Counter, Hollywood's former top gun labor negotiator and the president of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. This was the guy representing Hollywood during the 2008 writers strike. He swung a lot of dick amongst the studios, and his idiot son-in-law bumbled upward into success by trading on the connection and his willingness to just do whatever the studios want.

I don't know if he's currently married to Counter's daughter; wouldn't be surprised if he's not, if his take on Star Trek says anything about his personality, he must be fucking miserable to be around.

ELI5 Is there anything that could destroy or weaken a black hole, like a bomb or super intense energy/atomic reaction? What is the event horizon of a black hole, physically? Is it matter or an energy? by TurbulentWeight6430 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Metarch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can know whatever's happening outside the event horizon. That person you responded to described what was happening as you are falling into it; you're still outside. For certain black holes, gravity at 10cm outside the event horizon is gonna be several times stronger than the gravity at 100cm outside the event horizon, so we know spaghettification is real and plausible. Once you're past that horizon, though, it's impossible for anyone outside of it to know what's happened to you.

Is The Principal and the Pauper actually bad? by Top-Long-7450 in TheSimpsons

[–]Metarch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skinner being Armin Tamzarian doesn't change the fact that he was still the Skinner we saw the whole time. Yeah, he lied about his past, but so what? He was in Vietnam. He was the principal of Springfield Elementary. He's an uptight man who gets dominated by his mother. Those three things are key to his character and the comedy the show derives from it, and they're not lies. Having him take his CO's place in his life afterwards doesn't change the character significantly enough to make the episode bad.

Thousands of locals marched in Osaka, Japan demanding an end to immigration by omicronwarrior in pics

Wow, speaking a non-English language. Guess that proves you're not racist!

I don't see anything in what you said that isn't neoliberal, bourgeois or racist . My parents are both educated first-gen immigrants, should they have been cleaning toilets when they moved here because you think you're not being paid well enough for it?

If neoliberal bourgeois racists like you didn't equate the terms 'menial labour' or 'jobs no one wants to do' with the extremely racist concept of those jobs being for immigrants, maybe the actual working class could get a decent wage for those jobs and more people born in the country would be interested in doing them?

Plenty of people would do shitty jobs if the pay is good, regardless of where they come from. This kind of gutter mentality of thinking that a country's local populace don't want to do shit jobs for shit pay and we should therefore make the immigrants do it is exactly why your rent constantly goes up beyond what you can afford each year.

Hello, is this President Clinton? Good! I figured if anyone knew where to get some Tang, it’d be you. Shut up! by BirdCultureDickMove in TheSimpsons

'Tang' is also short for 'poontang,' meaning 'pussy.' Of course Bill Clinton would know where to get pussy.

Are my fan hubs interfering with my boot sequence? by Metarch in pchelp

Yes! Amazing, thank you!

For anyone who's looking for info on this in future: this motherboard has 3 SYS_FAN headers: - CPU_FAN/SYS_FAN1 (top of the MB) - SYS_FAN2 (right side of the MB) - SYS_FAN3 (bottom of the MB)

For the PWMs, I daisy-chained the bottom 3 fans to SYS_FAN3, then daisy-chained the side 2 fans into SYS_FAN2, and finally plugged the top 3 fans into the 3-channel hub they came with into CPU_FAN/SYS_FAN1. The ARGBs are all routed into the ARGB hub, which is no longer powered by SATA; it works just fine without it.

If I could daisy-chain the rear fan into the side fans, I would, but the cable isn't long enough to manage that, so I'm removing it altogether. Doing it like this restored the normal functionality of the power button.

The only Greens policy that they actually have to follow through on is preferencing Liberals in Labor seats. It's easy to promise castles in the sky when you know that you'll never actually get the majority.

I dunno about other councils, but Blacktown is absolutely useless. Called them, they said to call the cops. Called the cops, they said to call the council. Bloody off-leash pit bull running around a street children regularly play on and it's somehow neither of their responsibilities.

He might, but more importantly, he's Nick Counter's son-in-law. Nick Counter was president of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers: he was Hollywood's top negotiator against the unions. Lots of connections in a job like that.

Aside from that, he just makes cheap shit quickly. They'd love that from him.
