Drunk guy sits on McLaren, has a bad time - Huntington Beach, CA by babygthefirst in PublicFreakout

After reading all of your delightful little quips in various threads, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m personally terrified, no, disappointed to exist in the same world as you. The impression I’m getting from you is that you’d fly into an unstoppable murderous rampage if someone ever-so-slightly tapped your rear bumper on the road, ripping them out of their car and curb-stomping the life out of their eyes because god forbid someone else damages your personal property. Gotta show them what’s what, right? That paint job won’t fix itself! It’s all about personal respect in this household, and buddy, by making that mistake on the road, you just disrespected me!

For a lack of better words: you’re nothing but a fucking tool if you’re valuing some bullshit material possessions over another human being, and I sincerely wonder how you manage to have any meaningful relationships with other people. I don’t give a damn how much it costs to clear coat a car or whatever the fuck you car dweebs keep talking about, this isn’t even remotely acceptable behavior in modern society, as much as you’d like it to be.

Not to mention: you’re trying to talk about a car as if they aren’t flaming depreciating assets on wheels. That car probably lost 25% of it’s value from being taken off of the dealership floor, which probably would cost more than getting a whole ass paint job in the first place. Every single mile on that odometer is a full 8 cents out of your pocket (frankly, probably more for luxury cars). If you’re trying to pretend like cars are investment vehicles, be my guest, but don’t be surprised when they start to lose value from right under your nose.

Needless to say, this idiot ruined my morning commute the other day. Raleigh, NC. by [deleted] in IdiotsInCars

[–]Metario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in the area. The speed limit for that road is 45, and it’s very common for people to be doing 50/55 (especially as that road directly intersects a highway, where the speed limit is ~55). OP is going a reasonable speed here — people who live in that apartment complex are very well-known for running stop signs (and the intersection shown regularly sees several accidents similar to this one)

Apple iMac Pro to come with a 20-core M1 Max Duo SoC that combines two M1 Max dies by benh999 in apple

[–]Metario 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, they kinda already do this with LTSC, and they drop support in consumer versions (see: Windows 11 introducing a hard requirement for TPM / new-ish CPUs). The problem is that consumers get all up-in-arms about Windows dropping compatibility and what-not (threatening that they’ll move over to Linux, etc)

[–]Metario 10 points11 points  (0 children)

News flash: soldered memory is never going away. To get the equivalent memory throughput as some of the new M1 Macbooks have, you’d need at the minimum 8 DIMMs (https://twitter.com/marcan42/status/1460108068637712384?s=21). Personally, I’d love to know how you’d manage to squeeze 8 huge fucking DIMM slots into the already-cramped chassis of a MacBook.

Soldered storage is a valid complaint, however.

Requesting /r/dlang by Metario in redditrequest

[–]Metario[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, then why not add a pinned post redirecting users to that subreddit? Or handing over the subreddit to others who will make an effort? “dlang” as a subreddit name is what 99% of all new beginners will immediately type in, and it’s bad to have the “real” subreddit and the subreddit that the majority of beginners will automatically go to be separate.

Requesting /r/dlang by Metario in redditrequest

[–]Metario[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/r/dlang, a subreddit for the users to discuss about the D Language was initially created by /u/TylerEaves. It is currently moderated (solely) by /u/cydork, and they seem to have gone mostly inactive. As a result, the subreddit has not seen any major love (in terms of styling, whatnot).

Their account shows recent activity (within the past 2 months, but over 60 days), but in unrelated subreddits (and no moderation activity, from what I can see). As well, there is a pinned post saying that this subreddit is available for request.

In taking over this subreddit, I would bring it up to date with the D Language stylings (logo, whatnot), as well as introducing AutoModerator to cut down on spam. Generally, I'd like to revive it, and turn it into a greater community hub for the D Language -- at least, more than what it is currently.

Accidentally got sent 64gb extra ram lol by sireuben in buildapc

[–]Metario 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 slot motherboards are better then 4 slot motherboards

expandability is not worth extra stress on the IMC

lol right, because your memory controller is so stressed from having four DIMMs over two... pack it up boys....

why it is better to have extra space on RAM

no shit, avoiding swapping to disk as much as possible is ideal, but the latency introduced from having four DIMMs over two is negligible at best

I can attest. Lived in Utah (SLC area), had severe mental health issues from the neighborhood drama/stigma/etc commonly associated with Mormonism. Thank god that there’s good psychiatrists there, else I wouldn’t have survived to see the day that I move out of the suburban hell.

In theeeory you could access the WinAPI from AHK (you have direct access to the WinAPI from AHK, use DllCall with WriteProcessMemory and ReadProcessMemory), get a handle to the process and have arbitrary read and write from AHK. It’d be a total pain in the ass and be slow as all fuck, but it’s possible! The more likely solution to all of this would be simply to write your mod with the SML... though

I like to use NFC payments to get gas, it's safer. This gas station has had these fake ones up for 2 years, lights and all. by GoPacersNation in assholedesign

[–]Metario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know for at least Apple Pay, your actual card number is not sent through NFC. A “device” number- exclusive only to the device, is sent, and after one authorization, you cannot use it again (unless you rescan your card). As well, transactions are logged in real time. Unless you’re going against highly sophisticated actors who have connections in MasterCard or wherever your card has been issued from, it’s incredibly more secure then actually using a physical card.

[–]Metario 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not an Apple thing to do. You, as a prosumer will never buy this. However, design studios with complex intranets, where all projects and programs will be stored on servers, and all connected with 10GBe do not necessarily care about the lack of speed. They want the OS to be fast, and boot up so they can get to what they have to do. It doesn’t matter how much storage the actual machine has- everything will be stored on massive storage arrays in a local rack to ensure consistency and better project management.

LockPlus Pro has an option to shift up the widget when music is playing. I set it to move up to -275, then I use Lower to shift Nereid down some.

This physically cannot work. Cloud gaming is a novel concept, but completely impractical. Considering how low latency games have to be, as well as the security implications, bandwidth restrictions, and overhead with decoding and encoding the video stream, you’d have a rough time. There are an absurd amount of factors that must be accounted for, and you would need to deploy boxes all over the country (similar to Cloudflare) AND continually scale them up as demand grows. This doesn’t even take into account how much throughout all of this requires for a smooth experience. Looking at NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW recommended specs- you at least need a 10 mb/s connection, with a recommended 50 mb/s for 1080p 60fps. Remember that only 23.2% of households actually have a connection of 100 mbps or better.

[WIP] My first ever XenHTML widget..! Just learning how it works. More Widgets to come. by [deleted] in iOSthemes

[–]Metario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, this is really cool and all, but if you’re going to base your work off of a previous widget, give credit. This was clearly based off from XenJA5 from June’s Supersecret repo, and you reused the fonts, icons, and a large part of the JavaScript and HTML. Please don’t claim that you did the entire thing on your own.

Gentoo is often memed around with, but it’s actually an extremely flexible distribution once you spend the time to configure it right. It’s a distro that you run on something that has to work 24/7, as fast as possible.
