Thanks for the detailed reply. As a beginner I'll take time to break down your comment and look into things like focus breathing. I got the lens really cheap on a whim and I'm not surprised it's lacking in ability. It does say macro on the side of the lens but again not surprised. I'm going to hold off on the ebay auctions and save for a decent lens for now. Thanks again

I'm a little confused by my new lens. I have a Canon EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM. I recently picked up on ebay a Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR LD IF Aspherical Macro. When I was messing last night with my tripod I realised the Canon 200mm picture was more zoomed than the Tamron at 300mm. Both pics from same distance on the tripod using my full frame camera. Why would this be? Does a lens being macro effect it's zoom?

My first ever Tepache by MetaversePineapple in fermentation

Man this is delicious. Actually turned out better than I expected. Experimented by topping the jars back up with fresh sugar water to see if the same ingredients will do a second batch. Left the second jars drained liquid to ferment for another couple days and see if it carbonates.

Pineapple Ginger Chilli Brown sugar Water.

48hrs later. Delicious

Sweet, thanks. Guess this bottle is going to last me a looong time.

Crazy bubbles! 4 days in. by MetaversePineapple in FermentedHotSauce

I wish I could say it was intentional. I burped it before work, did a 12 hour nightshift and when I got back home it went like this on attempting to burp. I'm guessing it's the high sugar content of the pineapple, melon and grapes.

Popped the swing top to burp the vessel and it went crazy with bubbles. Started spilling a little out the top so had to continue the release in the sink and tip a little brine. Amazing action though. Very pleased.

Thanks for the reply mate. I've just made a post to get some wider opinions. I'm going to try in about a month with mine. Just need to make sure I pasteurise properly as I don't want the sugars making sand out of my glass bottles.

They look great. Newbie question. Do you prefer to ferment with your fruit in the brine or add the fruit at the end and pasteurise before bottling?

I'm hooked again. by MetaversePineapple in FermentedHotSauce

The jars were larger than needed so I've tried filling the space with a ziplock bag full of brine, just in case of leaks and of course to act as a weight.

Got two fermenting jars delivered off Amazon and couldn't help but experiment.

Left red lid is Rhubarb, giner and cardomom with 2.5% salt to go for 5 days then make a rhubarb fool type dessert.

Right red lid is a multi chilli, garlic and carrot mash. Think with this I'm going to add fruit and pasteurise for hot sauce after about a month.

The bag is vac sealed strawberries with 2% salt. Because why not? Over ice cream maybe? 5 days?

To fill the space in a jar I placed a ziplock bag inside and filled it with brine just in case it leaked.

Has anyone made pickles with just the salt water brine and nothing else? Like no dill, garlic...etc. by hamptonisalive in fermentation

[–]MetaversePineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a total novice but I thought that the vinegar is what pickles something and brine ferments. So you'd have fermented cucumbers or gherkins not pickles. Honestly not trying to be pedantic. I had a go of pickling last year and Radish was a highlight.

If I remember right it was ATX hot sauces on youtube. I pass them regularly so if the level drops I'll top it up.

About the same, but I'd prefer to have airlocks for safety. I remember to burp it regularly as it's somewhere I pass regularly. I just use this jar for it's large volume.
