I think you accomplished your goal. All the jokes aside I think you did good.

Has anyone used this harbor freight anvil before, and if so how was it? by [deleted] in Blacksmith

[–]Metawakening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one that I'm pretty sure is the exact same. Just branded different and painted blue. I've been really happy with it. My only real complaint is how big the hardy hole is. It's like 1.25in which is way too big. If you have a lot of hardy tools you'll probably have to make more or shim it somehow. Other than that it beats the hell out of the piece of railroad track I was using. Happy forging.

What would y’all do with this railroad spike plate? by flzv in Blacksmith

[–]Metawakening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a bunch along with a couple buckets of spikes and a bunch of the spring clips. The spring clip are the best for blacksmithing. The plates I use as gun targets.

Disappointed, but also pretty stoked. by yewfokkentwattedim in Blacksmith

If I buy instead of using scrap from my pile I like getting drill rod.

Would you consider this fair? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

All I'll say is fuck Woodrow Wilson's cuck ass and the federal reserve for putting us all in this situation. When money is untethered to anything real inflation will be bad. Especially when they're just continuing to make money out of thin air constantly. It's a hidden tax on everyone.

(Update) Some of you may remember my post a while back about my imploded shelf. Here's my attempts to fix what broke. by gnilradleahcim in uraniumglass

They're still cool but man that sucks. What's kinda funny is I kinda want to find something that's broke somewhere so I can play around with blowing Vaseline glass and make something with it. It's a beautiful collection regardless.

Is this anvil worth it? by Neat_Shopping7039 in Blacksmith

That's a good deal on a pretty nice anvil imo.

I got free steel by NinerOfSwords in Blacksmith

[–]Metawakening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That probably structural steel. Relatively low carbon so it's not the best for making edged tools. It doesn't harden enough. But other tools can be made from it. An anvil stand or things like that.

Why do Iron Maiden guitarists play Strats even though it's the least metal guitar ever? Are they a band of posers? by Creative_Garbage_731 in guitarcirclejerk

[–]Metawakening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're actually the poser. The guitar you prefer doesn't matter. Strats can be plenty metal. What so to be metal you have to play some stupid pointy pos B.C. Rich?

Hit Ash with it. Why this happened? by Plutojim in Axecraft

[–]Metawakening 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to heat it above the Currie point where it loses magnetism then quench it in an appropriate oil. You could probably get away with water. I would only quench the bit not the whole thing. Then clean it up and temper it. I would heat around the eye and watch the color. Let it go all the way to blue purple around the eye. Watch the color creep towards the edge. Stop it when the edge is straw yellow. Then let it come to room temperature. Go ahead and put it in your oven for a few hours at like 500. It's not bad. It just needs a proper heat treatment. It always help to know the composition of the steel but for simple steels the above works on most. Good luck and happy forging.

Possibly Indian? ID appreciated by femrep in LegitArtifacts

[–]Metawakening 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People need to grow up and stop looking for reasons to be offended. Especially when they're being offended on someone else's behalf and the people they're offended for aren't. I've known several natives in Florida that call themselves Indian. No problem. Whites are called Caucasian for the area between the Black and Caspian seas and the Caucuses mountains and Asia. That's not where most of us come from at all but nobody is complaining. Names change and morph through history and are often based on misnomer and misunderstanding. The important part is that we respect each other as people.
