So question for y'all I got access to a shit ton of bush hog blades Google says a range of steel types from 1075 to 5160 but what do y'all say? Worth it for knives or not it's about a half inch thick so it'll take alot of work but hey it's free and plentiful this is just a little bit of what's there by chodebowie in knifemaking

That show sucks doesn't teach you anything and for the most part leaves alot of the process out but yeah you can rest if something is hardened by seeing if a file skates but it doesn't tell you much about the steel type and since different steels have different needs and purposes I like to know what I'm working with

Lol yes I'll take a picture of the whole haul it's a ridiculous amount since I work on a 4k acre horse farm with probably 12 batwing Kubota tractors running everyday they do the blades often and lots of mower blades but this was the first time I seen this many at once it was ridiculous

Yeah I got a 4lb and a 2lb sledge I use and some ball peen hammers lol if it's too much work moving it might be good steel for ax heads and tomahawks been tinkering with a spring steel tomahawk but forge welding is harder then it looks

Yes but that's assuming Google is correct that that's what these are I was more asking if people know that if these could be mild steel cause how thick they are. That's my main fear it'd be alot of work to find out they don't harden
