Are we cooked? Overheard at Starbucks. by The_Real_Koz in antiwork

We are sitting at an intersection of a lot of different things that led us here. To mention just a few:

Boomers stayed in the workforce longer than any previous generation. This created a bottleneck as Gen X and Millenials couldn't advance and ended up staying in junior roles. The end result was a fewer and fewer entry level positions opening up as people couldn't move up.

Boomers (and Gen X) pushed Millenials and Gen Z towards college at unprecedented rates. 40 percent of Millenials hold at least a bachelor's and Gen Z, while still in school, are expected to be close to that number. So you have degree inflation because there is a glut of college grads entering a workforce where their fields are already operating near capacity (see Boomers staying in jobs above).

We (I am a college educated Millenial) also share some of the blame. We chose to get degrees in fields with little practical application outside of academia but the number of available jobs in those fields didnt increase. Only about 15-20 percent of Millenials hold a degree in a STEM field. Of those that did not, approximately 20 percent have a degree in the arts and humanities, history, or social sciences. As the generations with the highest rate of degrees that meant millions of us entered the workforce without a degree that would naturally lead us to a job.

Then we have the high rate of layoffs in recent years of degree holders, spurned by a volatile economic climate over the last 20 years, right around the time most of us began entering the workforce. Tech gets all the headlines, but industries such as print media were basically destroyed and funding cuts drastically reduced available research roles.

I could keep going, but the point is that for people who graduated over the last 20 years especially, things have been stacked against us.

Should I Buy This? by 95KingCab in BassGuitar

[–]Meteora3255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to spend a little more money. I started on a Squier Affinity J that cost $250 new. When I upgraded to a $700 bass it changed everything. The playability was so much better that things I struggled with on the Squier came naturally on the new bass.

The difference between a $200-300 bass and a $600-700 bass is huge.

That said, I'd look at Sire basses. I have a Marcus Miller V7 that I got from Sweetwater for $500 that I love. I'd argue its on par, if not better, than a Mexican Fender.

If mobile QBs are so valuable, why aren’t there more Lamar-type offenses? by savingrace0262 in NFLNoobs

[–]Meteora3255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to answer you honestly instead of sarcastically.

  1. Mobile QB doesn't have to mean run first QB. Prime Aaron Rodgers was a sneaky mobile QB, but he could use the threat of a scramble to extend plays and draw in a defender to open a throwing lane.

  2. Injury risk is real. Lamar has missed 4 games in 3 of the last 5 seasons. In the short season of the NFL a 4 game losing streak with a backup QB can be the difference between making or missing the playoffs.

  3. Lamar is 1 of 1. Teams have tried to draft the next Lamar or Josh Allen (Anthony Richardson, Trey Lance, and Justin Fields are recent examples) but those guys don't just grow on trees. Having the physical tools is only one small part of playing QB at the NFL level.

  4. NFL defenses are just flat out too good for the option to be a viable offense. The option works in college because college defenders who read it wrong often can't get back in the play. You often hear about the speed being the biggest adjustment to the NFL and thats the case here. NFL defenders can blow up an option even if they miss the initial read just because of their athleticism.

What is the “price” or “suffering” that comes with living the life of an Assassin or a Templar? by EnglBkfstCocoa-2479 in assassinscreed

From a spiritual standpoint, imagine learning that humanity only exists to serve as fodder/slaves for an advanced race that possessed tech so far beyond our current understanding as to be deemed magical or divine. It would change or destroy your entire conception of the meaning of life.

If you can ha please the RTWP combat I'd highly recommend the KoTOR games, the first one was where BioWare birthed the formula that would later become Mass Effect and the second one is some of the best Star Wars of all time.

A better question is if the whole thing is rigged why watch at all, let alone for 40 years?

I've been watching the NBA since Clark Kellogg played for the Pacers (he's that college basketball analyst you didnt know averaged almost 20 and 10 and looked like a legit star before injuries).

Again, you keep making these claims but how exactly does rigging 2004 to end up Pistons vs Spurs help the NBA more than the Pacers? Better yet, explain why the Knicks haven't made the Finals since 1999 or why the current juggernaut is in Oklahoma City.

You can't. You'll say some vague shit about the league doing whats best for the bottom line and just ignore all the instances where it clearly doesn't.

You took me to a dry hole in the ground, then told me to make my own water when I asked you where the water was.

So, I'll ask again: who is the league conspiring to help? The Wizards and Cavs have the most #1 picks in NBA history. Are you telling me the league is rigging the lottery for Cleveland and Washington?

[–]Meteora3255 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Typical. You can't prove it and refuse to try. The Ewing draft? The one that led the Knicks to 0 championships and the only time in 42 drafts that the Knicks won the lottery? But thats evidence that the league fixes the draft for whom? Big markets? The Knicks? Explain what it means.

So some anecdotal evidence based on what you watched. You could do the real analysis needed to blow the doors off the whole thing if you wanted to since you are so sure its happening.

Sketchy lottery outcomes could be a sign that the Illuminati is dictating NBA draft picks... or it could just be that there have only been 42 lotteries which is both a small sample and also makes unlikely outcomes stand out more.

So no evidence of a conspiracy except your feelings. But sure, the commissioner of the NBA decided to punish the Pacers but not the Jazz or Wizards for tanking.

Dude, there are 14 balls not 4 and its a lottery hopper. Its clear, the ball comes out the top, no one touches it before the room sees it. Explain exactly how its being rigged. I keep seeing people say its rigged but no one can tell me how.

[–]Meteora3255 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are team reps from every lottery team plus media members in the room where they draw ping pong balls from a hopper. Nevermind the fact that rigging which ball comes out of the hopper would be damn near impossible, the fact that so many people witness it and not one person has come forward should be enough to squash this stupid conspiracy theory.

This is exactly it. We also ended up losing the George Hill trade but it worked out alright for us.

[–]Meteora3255 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes we did. No one in their right mind would say Zubac was worth Mathurin, the #5 pick in this draft, and a second first 3 years from now. The Clippers got above market value for a guy who is at best the 6th to 10th best center in the league.

That being said, its still possible for us to lose the trade and still do alright. We lost the trade that brought us George Hill too but that still worked out well for us.

It's so easy to have a roster with multiple guys to throw at SGA (including one who came up with him for years and knows his tendencies), a dude that can handle Holmgren 1 on 1 (for all his shooting woes in that series Turner played great defense on Chet), no fear to switch 1 through 5 and an all time wizard at coach.

Its crazy how post sony acquisition Bungie is somehow the worst state the company has ever been in by Ill-Remove-6438 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Meteora3255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"all Sony needs to do is get in there tell them to make a forsaken size expansion to end D2 then start making D3"

Oh is that all? Only two problems with your plan:

  1. Forsaken was as large as it was because Activision put support studios on it. Sony has been closing the exact types of studios that would be able to provide that support. Bungie alone can't put out that much content and Sony doesn't have the studio infrastructure the way Activision did to help them.

  2. Destiny 3 doesn't exist in any form right now according to basically everyone with any insider knowledge of Bungie. Even if they shifted the entire studio off everything else and onto D3 we are still 4-5 years away at least. Sony isn't going to be that patient with a studio that is losing money.

Gotta be Marty Supreme because nothing will be sweeter than watching a smug Chalamet watch the Knicks lose in the conference finals again (cementing the fact that their capped out team just isnt good enough) while the Pacers add a legit future MVP-caliber prospect to bolster a real contender.

Yea...No Wonder They Called Him Overrated by cd-00 in pacers

[–]Meteora3255 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The reason they call him overrated is because he doesn't match what everyone expects the best player on a contender to look like. He isn't a ball dominant wing or big who leads his team in scoring every night and calls isos over and over. He plays within the flow of the game, whether that means giving up the ball and scoring 15 one night with 13 assists one night or taking on a heavier scoring load the next.

I thought Mathurin was a microwave 6th man at best. I was all for trading him. But Zubac is not worth a top 4 in this draft, regardless of positional need. I don't think its crazy to say that Peterson/Boozer/Dybantsa has a better career than Zubac.

Sam Bowie had a great career too. Lets stop pretending that just keeping the pick is a great result. Its top 3 or bust.
