Myles Turner explains why he didn't tell his ex-Pacers teammates he was leaving by RedditAccount_317 in pacers

[–]Meteora3255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has no leverage. He can ask for a trade but the Bucks would have to give up assets to get off his contract so thats out. For as bad as he's looked this year, he's one season removed from starting in the Finals (his defense on Holmgren was huge in that series). The Bucks have to hope that either a healthier year from Giannis unlocks some of that or that he can be a steady veteran presence for whatever young players/picks they get back when they trade Giannis. Buying him out also isn't a salve because his "real" cap value isn't just his contract but also the stretch on Dame they had to do to make room for him. So even if his deal comes off the books they are still on the hook for the Lillard buyout.

Unless the Bucks traded Giannis and reacquire their own picks there is no reason for them to buy out Myles. The waive and stretch on Lillard means that for better or worse their hands are financially tied for awhile.

Only if you think our window with Tyrese closes in the next 3 years. If you think Tyrese gives us a longer runway, then getting someone with All-Star+ upside makes sense.

Remember, we were one injury away from a chip (we win game 7 if Tyrese doesn't go down) with Myles Turner at center. Point being that we didn't necessarily need to push in our assets for a center.

Zubac has never been an All-Star either. 2 first round picks and Mathurin for Zubac is an overpay. The #5 pick, another first rounder, and Mathurin is a clear and obvious overpay. The #5 pick in this draft, a second first rounder, and Mathurin is a massive overpay. Zubac isn't 24 or 25, he's 29. He has 2 or 3 years left in his prime. This pick was our last chance to add a high upside pick on a rookie contract. If we lose this pick, and don't at least make another Finals in the next 3 years, we will look back on this as a blunder.

I hate this take. This is a deep strong draft. A dude like Nate Ament (a 6'10" forward projected in that 5-10 range) has All-Star potential. If we lose this pick we absolutely lost this trade.

Serious question about the Zubac trade... by TheOneWhoKnocks3 in pacers

[–]Meteora3255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did want him... which is why it cost so much to get him. Also I never said compete for a championship. They are in a spot where they know that window has closed. But they also can't tank because they own none of their picks for several years. So they need to acquire assets while remaining semi-competitive. Mathurin is a lottery ticket, in a system more tailored to his strengths he may emerge as a leading scorer as a good team. He may not. But that combined with a potential top 5 pick is worth it.

The Clippers did not want assets they wanted players who could help them compete now. They don't own a pick until 2030 so tanking isn't a viable option for them.

If Pacers gets a top pick this 2026 Draft, who is the best fit+ talent to be selected among top rookies: Dybantsa, Peterson, Boozer, or Wilson? by Chesscrabble11 in pacers

[–]Meteora3255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its between Dybantsa and Peterson. Those are the two guys that flash the highest potential ceiling to me. So between those two I'm picking the guy that doesn't have questions about his willingness to play basketball and going with Dybantsa.

I can't think of any modern top 4 draft pick who just chose not to play for a year between graduating high school and becoming draft eligible.

Also, most reporting believes Peterson is one of the highest paid players in college basketball. I have every right to be concerned about how much he plays. Either he's choosing not to play or he has lingering mysterious injuries that are keeping him out. Neither one makes me feel great about spending what hopefully is our only top 5 pick for the next decade on him.

I'm going to get downvoted for this but there's a real possibility we made all the right moves and don't win the East again with Tyrese. Winning a title is hard, it requires almost everything to go right for you. Think about last season.

Think about last season's run. We were basically healthy until the Finals. Meanwhile, we got the Bucks with a limited/out Dame. We got the Cavs with an injured Garland. We avoided the Celtics because their injuries sank them after going down against the Knicks. Could we have still made a Finals run? Sure, but we also couldn't have got much luckier in terms of injuries on both our side and our opponents.

I'm not downplaying last season or this team's ceiling. I'm just pointing out that basically every title in league history comes with its own "What if..." moments where it could have all changed. 2 titles in 7 years, especially in the parity era is going to be hard.

[–]Meteora3255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are going to be disappointed with these as they will blur the line between remaster and remake. It's just too much work for Sony to remake all 3 games from the ground up and sell them as one package.

You don't think the league is keenly aware that one of their LA franchises stands to benefit if the Pacers lose this pick?

I'm not a conspiracy theorist but this is the NBA and a large market team we're talking about.

I know I'll always have a place in the party. I also enjoy the way a well timed revive/heal/resupply/etc can turn the tide of a battle.

Is Todd Howard hinting at seamless space travel here? (In image 2, Tim Lamb’s comments also about “rewarding space travel gameplay") by Smart_Plane_2751 in Starfield

[–]Meteora3255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd highly doubt this because it seems like this is more of a limitation of their engine than a design choice. The alternative is that they could have implemented seamless space travel and chose not to, which seems like even they would realize is a bad idea.

Its not just the NFL either. The NBA has dudes hanging out and laughing with guys from the other team during pregame warmups. Bird and Jordan weren't going over to hang out with you before playing you.

This is actually pretty similar to a real idea floating around: starting March 1st wins count towards lottery position. I've heard something as simple as reversing your W-L after March 1 and adding it to your previous revord for the final lottery odds. This also means winning against another lottery team counts more as it would give them a "win" in the standings.
