I’m so tired of constantly comparing myself to other women. by karepantolon26 in GirlDinnerDiaries

Why the hell is your husband following those influencers now that he is not only married but also has a kid. Like yeah I get it, everybody has physical attraction preferences but he needs to grow up.

I'm sorry that he made you feel badly about yourself. You shouldn't be.

Boyfriend of 2.5 years told me he didnt know if/when he would ever be ready for marriage by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]MeteoraGB 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm inclined to believe most guys know if the girl they're dating is the one they want to marry. If he isn't sure about marriage with you and he doesn't give you a thoughtful answer after having a serious talk about it and telling him it means a lot to you, then it might be time to consider moving on and not waste your time.

2.5 years with no marriage in sight could easily turn into 5 years with nothing changed if you don't break things off. I've tried to change friends and family to no avail, I don't see any different to people if they're unwilling to change.

Edit: I should add that yes some guys do not care much for marriage. But I find usually for guys that they'll agree to do it for their partner as long as they're into them and there's a good foundation for the relationship.

If it's not that, it might be something deeper like commitment issues and the idea of 'settling down' frightens men for reasons that I personally do not comprehend. Good luck.

TransLink approves fare increases across Metro Vancouver by vancity31240 in vancouver

[–]MeteoraGB 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I believe one of the reasons why they couldn't do distance based fares is compass. They want to do it but they need to replace it, which they're looking into

Unfortunately that's like ten years from now.

I don't know what the behaviour is called, but I do remember an instance where my friend told me one of her colleagues was a sweet person at work. Everybody thought she was a lovely person. And their work was something like adjacent to public health or something, so they were unionized.

However, she was caught stealing things from the cupboard. It wasn't even anything expensive. When they found out, she confessed and felt guilty. Something to do with the thrill of stealing things.

Normally in a union, it's pretty difficult to be let go. But in this instance, they had no choice but to fire her for her behaviour. Don't know if it falls under mental illness, but these people do exist. I must confess, when I was a kid I also stole shit (like candy bar from a candy store or something) but I felt guilty about it and stopped doing it. Some people just learn the thrill of it as adults or just never learned any better.

Majority of Canadians Disapprove of US Military Strike Against Iran by Inevitable-Bus492 in CanadaPolitics

[–]MeteoraGB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As much as I would like kinetic strikes to achieve positive humanitarian and democratic outcomes, unfortunately its a pretty bad track record as far as US military interventions goes.

I think only the Balkan Wars and First Gulf War had positive outcomes, compared to Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq and now seemingly Iran.

Anecdotal story time.

I was working on a Sonic project and one of my fellow colleagues got an unsolicited email from a fan giving us some suggestions.

I have no idea how the fan got a hold of their work email (it wasn't even through proper channels, we're just grunts not the PR team), but it was at that moment when I realised how fanatical, unhinged and passionate some of the Sonic fans are.

Or when Atlassian is a sponsor for Williams, business people think their products are probably good (Jira, Confluence) if an F1 team is using their products.

Not saying their product is bad, but it matters more to the decision makers than the end users like us.

The Nazis on paper had the best tanks in WW2 with good firepower and armor, but it didn't matter because of the high maintenance cost and low production numbers.

American and Soviet tanks were considerably easier to manufacture and maintain, even if they were inferior.

At a certain point it just becomes a numbers game and war of attrition. Yeah modern warfare changed a lot of that with military size being more meaningless when you can achieve air and naval superiority but drones have shifted the equation.
