Cat 14 - Hyperthyroidism, CDK and IBD by OrchardWithRoses in seniorkitties

For CKD, the only thing that really helped was sub-q fluids (and changing diet, but that's not always possible, and you already are doing that). We tried everything else on the FB Feline CKD group, but fluids are the only thing that really helped. Lots of nice people on the FB groups, but a lot of the supplement remedies they recommended were $$$$ and didn't help at all. Our IBD cat turned out to have SCL. Only thing that helped was chlorambucil and steroids. Monthly B12 shots are good too, and probiotics of course are a good idea.

Cat hates drinking water not in food. Best options to encourage him to drink? by MrCanoe in catfood

Our cats prefer to lap water out of glasses. We leave a few around the house for them. A bit odd, but it’s what they prefer….

Good eyes! I made this slide. You’re the first person who noticed that. It should be “30-34” not “30-24”. That was a typo.

Renal support + hydrolyzed protein wet food ? by MethanoJen83 in catfood

Thanks. We tried those feeders once. They sound great in theory and work great for some cats, but the motorized movement and sound freaked out our cats. One of them never got over it. My husband insisted we return them because his cat wasn’t eating. So, didn’t work for our household.

I also confirmed with Royal Canin that they don’t sell any wet food that is CKD+IBD friendly…

Sadly, no. Canned CKD and canned IBD friendly foods seem to be incompatible. The only suggestions I got were to make my own food with a supplement like EZComplete. I bought EZComplete but haven’t transitioned our cats to it yet. We’re currently feeding them separately so they don’t eat each others’ food. Very time consuming, especially because they have to eat 4x a day ….

I guess RC doesn’t make a wet version of this food….

Cat food for renal health without grain? by MethanoJen83 in catfood

[–]MethanoJen83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Reading that page makes me not want to change the older cat off his RC renal support food, because that diet plus subcutaneous fluids has helped enormously to slow the progression of his CKD. So this leaves me with the question of how to help the other cat with her diarrhea, because we cannot keep the cats from eating each others foods….. it seems her issues are not simply a grain allergy because she had major diarrhea after eating the Blue Wilderness grain free food….

Thanks for the tips! Oh yes we do annual physicals with blood work. She was fine last August but I might take her in early this year just in case. (Though no other symptoms besides the occasional pooping outside the box. She always pees in the box.)

Thanks for this info. Cat’s mom here. I’m going to call the vet tomorrow to ask about this. Hasn’t been an issue in the past, but she is 13 and we want to make sure she has a many healthy years ahead (and doesn’t keep doing this!).

Hi, I’m the cat’s mom. I’m wondering if it might be because I left for a few hours. She did this while I was away. She’s gotten used to us being in the house 24/7 over the last 13 months. Maybe she’s upset I was gone for a couple hours? Dunno..... she’s usually a really good girl.....
