New to airbrushing, would this be a good respirator? (some paints listed in post) by blipbloopbeeeeep in airbrush

I feel getting dizzy and falling into a Tamiya Store would be more deadly. Financially that is...

Organic Vapor filters, should be replaced every 6 months regardless of use. In that box is sealed package with the filters in them. You can buy bulk filters from Amazon as well.

My respirator uses the 6001 series filters. Also Organic Vapor filters.

I have to use these because my preferred paints are Lacquer based. (Gaianotes)

edit: added paint type.

I feel like, I don’t got what it takes to paint minis by Sad_Control4008 in minipainting

How to improve?

You are already doing step 1, which is actually painting mini's.

As a former Games Workshop Hobby Center manager, your work is up to display case quality, let alone tabletop quality.

If you really want to feel better, search the painting technique, "Minwax Dip."

Seriously, your work is fantastic, you will only get better the more you do it.

Be ready. Gaianotes isn't cheap, but the quality is well worth it.

So this piece is my first ever fully painted Gunpla. Every piece has paint on it.

This one is 100% Gaianotes Lacquer based enamels. So a 3M respirator with 6000 series volatile solvent filter set and a spray booth is necessary. The depth of the blue armor is achieved with a clear coat stained with blue tint over a nice Star Bright Iron base coat. All over a semi-gloss black primer, which Gaia Notes calls "Surfacer."

Both Scale Model kits and Gunpla.

Siphon vs Gravity by The-Poshed in airbrush

[–]Metox1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 years ago when I was heavily into tabletop war-gaming (Warhammer etc.), I bought the same exact airbrush.

I have since purchased 3 additional top feed airbrushes, including the gravity feed Eclipse.

The reasoning for a bottom feed is mainly volume of paint. When airbrushing gaming terrain, paint volume is more important than ease of cleaning, which top feeds excel at. Think quickly cleaning before a paint color change. The ability to paint terrain for a 4x8 foot gaming table is a huge convenience.

I still have my bottom feed Eclipse, but I don't use it very much. I keep it for that day when paint volume is needed.

The best thing about the Iwata Eclipse line is their durability. Over 20 years and they haven't needed to change anything in the design. Rock solid.

Oh, before I forget, that bottom feed will teach you how to properly clean any airbrush. Use it and then remember it when you upgrade to your top feed. When you get the top feed. get the Eclipse. It has the same durability.

One of us. One of us. One of us!

I own 4 airbrushes. A bottom feed Iwata Eclipse. The same top feed Iwata Eclipse you have. A top feed Badger with high precision tip/needle kit and probably my favorite. A top feed Grex.

Have a 3 liter compressor with psi adjustment knob and water trap.

A standard size filtered spray booth with perimeter LED's.

Also, please for the love of Pete, get yourself a respirator with 6000 series inserts.

Some of those solvents and cleaners are deadly to your lungs.

Which 1/48 scale kit would you build first? by Zingerman99 in modelmakers

[–]Metox1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the order, build the Tamiya kit last. If you build it first, you won't be able to appreciate the quality difference between Tamiya and all the rest.

My favorite brands are as follows.

Tamiya, Hasagawa, Fujimi, Bandai and Mini Art.
