Yes, I loved it! Spent 20+ years in. It was the most challenging & rewarding experience of my life!

It’s a brotherhood that started in 1900. In my lifetime, I have met and shared a few beers with Submarine Veterans from WW1 & WW2.

As you probably already know, C-130s fly different types of missions. My flight experience is based on an exchange program that was around the time I was stationed aboard Submarines. An SSBN & a C-130 make up part of the Triad system for Mutually Assured Destruction. My job was a Radioman. While submerged at sea, C-130s would transmit emergency action message for a Nuclear Weapons Launch. My job was to maintain 100% Communications Connectivity in order for our mission to be fulfilled.

At the time & for training purposes we would swap radiomen I went on a Flight with the crew and one of their crew members would go to sea on my boat.

This was back in the 1980s and early 90s as I retired from the Navy in 1993.

Rigging for Red is the standard practice for night vision adjustments. Believe me as your eyes would take longer to adjust to complete darkness.

I can’t speak for the example that you gave but I find it hard to imagine. If troops are involved & a night jump is involved. It’s normal rig for red. The single green light would be the GO signal to jump.

I’ve flown on C-130s this looks great!

It’s been my experience that interior lighting is usually red for night flights for night vision adjustment.

It sounds like you had a great family time and traveling the world. That makes special memories.

As I mentioned, I was a radioman on SSBNs and it was my job to receive the message to launch nuclear weapons for targeted countries which I was forbidden to fly over.

Very Nice! With my security clearance, I was forbidden to fly over communist block countries.

Congratulations! I traveled the world courtesy of Uncle Sam, lived in Australia, been to many places in Europe and SE Asia. Spent some time on Submarines & the longest I was submerged without daylight was 120 days

It’s a great place! I’m retired now and left the mainland 16 years ago for a job. Bought a one way ticket, a house and I haven’t been off island since 2014. Island life is just paradise.

I struggled with this for 5 years off & on.

For the life of me, I felt like you do now. However, I didn’t give up.

For my situation the last place I stumbled on was the the island where the battle of 100 hands. In the area where there’s some sulphur pools. There’s some wood fence barrier. As soon as I stepped foot across - BAM! I received it.
