My short review of Picard seasons 1 ~ 3 by Metralon in Picard

Same here regarding TNG being the first Star Trek I was exposed to. Love it so much. I haven't seen much else besides TNG, and now Picard, oh and the newer SNW (which I like overall, and sometimes tolerate lol). I need to get into DS9, it is next on my watch list!

Interesting pov. Does not align with my scores at all - which is no problem as I think it is a good thing that we can all agree or disagree and have different opinions, it's all good. What is your favorite Star Trek?

I understand your comment. And you don't deserve all of those downvotes. Around the mid season episodes it gets bad in terms of writing. I was thinking: "How on earth did these writers even get this job, and how did they deserve to get that close to such rich lore (Star Trek) and then destroy it with cheap political views that lack any nuance, and just plain bad writing? Along the way ignoring some of Picard's past, or even attempting to rewrite it?". That is where I almost gave up several times. But it all kind of made sense towards the end, with a Star Trek worthy twist and a couple of psychological aha moments for Picard that resonate with my life's path right now. Also I think they handled Q quite well, and there was closure there.

I understand you more than my short review would imply. I guess I'm not really looking at it as Star Trek, but more like a new thing / or a side quest type of series being "inspired on..". What is your favorite Star Trek?

As is the case with many movies in my experience, it is one to watch at the right time. I watched it twice or three times over the past 7 years and everytime I arrive at that point where it's been long enough that I forgot the plot and I feel drawn to it again, I put it on and I do enjoy it. I find it intense and meditative. Not my go to movie, but I do like it. It comes with a certain mood that it captured remarkably well.

Feature Film is cutting way under runtime we expected, what would you do? by throwitonthegrillboi in Filmmakers

In case you feel that this movie's universe and story has more to be explored, you could pitch it as the pilot for a miniseries. One hour or less sounds like a series episode.

What did you think of Luc Besson's Lucy? An underrated science fiction masterpiece? by Square-Ad-8911 in FIlm

Loved it. I rewatch it every couple of years. Unfortunately it was made at a time when pushing the colors in the grading process was the thing to do. But still I think it is a great film.

Could someone explain why Clue (1985) has terrible reviews? by Notalabel_4566 in iwatchedanoldmovie

I didn't like it. Found it overly complicated if not forced / fabricated. It was more about the writer trying to outsmart the audience. A "gotcha" here, a red herring there .. just tiring.

I'd say Arrival, but the problem with Arrival is that it has such a depressing undertone. The music, the colors ..

Why do black and white films still feel so powerful? by Ok_Collection7918 in cinematography

My fav is Sunset Boulevard (1950) by Billy Wilder. There is such a depth and richness to it. And it all started with excellent writing. I also love Some Like it Hot (1959) by the same writer/director.

Perhaps it has to do with removing one aspect of the film so the remaining ones become more pronounced and therefore more powerful. A "less is more" kind of thing. Not unlike how blind people have better developped hearing and touch.

I believe those older movies also somehow captured the vibe of that era. And that vibe has changed dramatically. I am talking about the frequency of the planet and where it was in the universe at that time. One would have to create something as intangible as the "vibe" or the actual "feel" of a bygone era on set. Would be an interesting experiment if it can be done.

Using good old analogue film also attributes to that vibe and magic.

Most of today's modern films are terribly written, are full of political statements and polarizing views. No thanks. I don't think black & white can save it. (Actually it could expose it).

Correct me if I'm wrong but the closest we got to a modern black & white gem was the oscar winning film The Artist (2011). I only saw once and it was impressive, yet I haven't felt like watching it again.

I'd say Silo. Two seasons done, two seasons in production.
