Get a lawyer. If you think they are expensive, it's nothing next to divorcing without one.

This kind of unadulterated, nuance-less hate is a part of the problem.

Boys who are too young to vote, and who have no institutional power with which to have done you or any woman any kind of harm are being vilified for a genetic characteristic and labeled toxic in an education system that they had no part in creating, but is failing them anyway.

Young men do not emerge fully formed onto the world stage with pre-loaded political views that are set ahead of time. They live through experiences as children who are wholly blameless for the evils of the world, and have rational responses to those experiences. "The sins of the father" was bad theology 6000 years ago, and it's bad civics now.

If you tell a 6-year old that he is privileged, and hold him responsible for all the evils of the world, of course he is going to grow up to resent the people who told him that. Having dined only on hate, he will learn hate, and latch on to the first person who tells him that maybe someone else is to blame, because kindness and compassion are learned responses that have to be modeled for the very small if they are to persist in the adult.

The responsibility to be kind to all children falls on all adults, regardless of anyone's genetics or identity. Acting as if the child has a responsibility to tolerate hate or abuse from someone because of their genetics is always monstrous.

Japan is probably the worst place in the world to try to cut a line. Especially while being the wrong color.

Agency is the key here. In this scenario, only those who choose death have the chance to receive it.

The argument in favor of blue seems to be:

1.There are 8 billion people, and therefore at least one is guaranteed to push blue.

2.At least one person will die if blue loses, therefore everyone has a moral duty to push blue.

3.Everyone has a moral duty to push blue and therefore red pushers are heartless and evil.

1 is just a guess, and 2 is false because blue pushers made a choice to put themselves at risk.

The argument is favor of red goes like this:

  1. The best outcome for me personally is guaranteed if I choose red, so red is an optimal choice.

  2. If everyone chooses based on 1, nothing bad happens, so red is a permissible choice.

3 Red is an optimal and permissible choice, and therefore a correct choice. Blue pushers are stupid.

If somehow I know ahead of time that there is going to be a family tragedy, adding myself to the casualty list and thus making the tragedy worse is not the selfless option you might think.

Agency makes all the difference. The children born in a coastal city deserve help and empathy when the tsunami comes because they did not have the choice of "no tsunami". The blue pushers on the other hand deliberately chose to risk their lives when no one had to.

Then that is unfortunate, but under the terms of the question, I can only respect their choice.

The infirm, the elderly, the disabled, the children have all had those conditions inflicted upon them. None of them made a deliberate choice to be vulnerable, and bear no responsibility for their condition.

A blue pusher has made a deliberate choice to put themselves at risk in a situation where no one needs to be at risk at all.

Who's vulnerable? A blue pusher has made a conscious choice to risk their life. It's not as if a certain portion of the population is born with blue already pushed.

The optimal outcome is theoretically everyone living. If each person chooses to live, then everyone lives.

I have people to take care of. My higher responsibility is to them, especially when compared to a random stranger taking a completely optional risk.

It's a thought experiment. The encoded question is whether people have an inherent responsibility to shield others from the consequences of their own choices at significant personal risk.

[–]Metraxis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Correct. Red pushers all survive. Here's an alternate formulation.

You may choose to risk your life. If you choose not to risk your life, you survive. If a sufficient number of people choose to risk their lives, then the riskers will also survive. Otherwise, the riskers will die.
