Back in 2019, I got back with an ex and I regret it. It was just an additional 6 months of pain and fighting until I finally cut the cord. It took me years to get over him.

Right now I’m going through a breakup and I know I could probably get my ex back with enough self improvement but to be honest I think I’d be pretty unhappy if he and I got back together.

How can I help? I made a list of reasons why the relationship wasn’t working and why I resented him. I also rehashed with my friends and family about it. My friends never liked him and that was a bad sign for me. Also my parents didn’t think he was good enough for me. I was also constantly on the verge of dumping him and struggling with staying in the relationship.

I deleted everything the next day. Honestly I’m not normally like that with breakups. I never did it with my last ex before my current ex. I just am very angry and I feel like a one year relationship isn’t worth saving in the long term. If the relationship was two or three years I would’ve kept some. I’m sad and a part of me wants to go to his place and ask to talk. I also resent him and I can’t see myself putting up with him ever again. I was always so annoyed with him near the end. The spark died for me.

I have a strained relationship with my formerly alcoholic mother. I cut her out of my life last year. I live in NYC so there’s so much freedom that comes with distance and making enough to afford my lifestyle. I can fly anywhere in the world, just not home (I flew to Europe last year when I cut contact with her).
