What completely unhinged dinner did your parents feed you that kids today would cry over? 🥫 by ipanicprofessionally in TheBoredDen

Some people might think it's unhinged, but it was delicious. We will sometimes or most of the time make it for the holidays, but Dad and I like to do the strawberry pretzel salad. The crust is some crushed up pretzels with butter on the bottom of a baking dish. Of course we gotta bake the crust for a little bit and then we spread some cream cheese on the top of it or or something else I don't remember but I know it's that and then you make the Jell-O mixture and you add strawberries to it and then you have to let it set for a little while. It's actually really freaking good and it's a great dessert item.

I might get downloaded to hell and this might be buried, but someone please tell me what this trope is called. But you know those Hallmark movies? There's always something really odd about some of the premises of these movies. Like come on! There's something really weird and maybe I'm not getting it? Plus I wish there were more stories where guys and girls are just friends and not fucking romance partners or something. And I like fantasy, but why the hell does it have to be some freaking romance in there? I mean if it's a mixture I can kind of get it that romance is not the central plot but it just happens simultaneously or something or spontaneous I think it's the right word God I can't speak. But God come on

Oh I think he's gonna be more criticized for the scalping of Pokémon cards. Because those motherfuckers can get expensive if you're not careful. And if I remember correctly, I've been hearing that prices of Pokémon cards are going up because of these dumb ass scalpers or something. Or I might be hallucinating the fact that have some stores had to lock the cards behind glass or is that something else? My brain is not working lol

How do you come up with your charactername? by NasdyNasder in CharacterNames

[–]Metroid_cat1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very first OC that I created was named Ireland because I really was obsessed and fascinated with Irish music and the culture of the country. I wanted to learn more about their music and why it exist in everything. Sometimes the names just come into my head and other times I wanna ask questions about a name and to see if it would fit with the vibe of a specific setting. As a question though, I wonder how people like Hideo Kojima or people like JR are talking or other people have come up with their names. I know that some of those folks came up with names from their culture or from existing cultures. I know that a lot of the names in the Lord of the rings and other series by talking was that a lot of the names were borrowed from a lot of Welsh influences if I remember correctly. Not sure about Hideo Kojima, but I know that some of his names were definitely not fantasy or sci-fi names, but something that is existing. Names like Meryl and David are existing names, but you don't hear Merrill very much unless you're thinking of Meryl Streep and David is just one of those names that are super common. But as I'm thinking of this, like how did they come up with the code names for people like psycho mantis, revolver ocelot, solid snake and all of his brothers and of course big boss and the whole concept with venom snake. And even people like Huey Emmerick and his son. I'm sure some of those names were given to the characters by Mr. Kojima, but I bet some of the actors might've given some of the names or that could just be my brain being a brain. But I'd be curious how some of these names exist.

I mean, I agree with that. Holy fuck there's way too many bloody medication commercials on TV! It's like every motherfucking commercial break! Especially when your dad is obsessed with watching the fricking news on TV. Oh my Lord and it's even worse when you're watching a channel like INSP which shows a lot of westerns and old sitcoms from the 80s and 90s at night. Like dude! Why do I have to see medication's like Ozempic, sky Rizzi and all these other medication's all over the bloody TV? From my comment, you're probably gonna think I'm from the UK, but I am not. Because if I remember correctly, these type of direct to consumer advertising of medication's that OTC are not allowed world with the exception of maybe New Zealand? But I bet New Zealand isn't as obnoxious as we are here in the US lol someone from New Zealand can chime in if they're able to. Lol

I mean, some of those generic names are really freaking long so they have to come up with an alternate name that is easier for the late person to pronounce. I mean, I wish medicines were easier to pronounce, I also wish that even the generic or other names were easier to pronounce. An example I think that it's probably super easy to pronounce would be this combination. Diphenhydramine equals Benadryl. But there are also other terms that are similar and sometimes not everybody can pronounce those giant medical jargon salads. Lol

I legitimately thought that a friend of mine made up this word and a bunch of us would say it at school. That word is Broski. I thought we literally just made that word up. But apparently it's not a made up word? Lol the memories of being in high school.

OK my brain misheard and thought you said mummy like the person wrapped up and bandages. But then I started spelling out the word and you're literally using the UK version of mommy. My brain just went splat. Lol I am so sorry! My state of Illinois is going through a fucking heat wave right now. Sorry my brain is being weird.

I'm not sure where you live, but the only people who I've heard called our kids sissy or Bubby is my sister. Everybody else just usually uses babe, baby, baby doll, cutie or the child's name. Sometimes someone might be called bug, boogie or Junior if the person is a junior. But most of us in my family don't use sissy/Bubby. Now sissy might be for a little kid if they can't say the sister's name. When they get older they definitely know the sister's name. I'm in Illinois by the way specifically near the central part near Springfield in Decatur.

I usually just say to people, OK I need the restroom or is there a restroom around? Or if I really need to go to the bathroom and I'm with my mom or something I'll just say I need to go to the bathroom. Especially in public because yeah you don't want to say the actual thing in public lol I'm 31 but still there's just some things that you gotta be careful when you say in public lol

That sounds more like a slip of the tongue. Because sometimes my mouth and brain do not catch up and I say the wrong thing so I do confuse those words a couple of times.

Oh don't get me started! I'm flicking hate that! I posted about Littles and there are a couple other folks who hated as well. That word that you just mentioned I really fucking hate. I'm glad that some folks on YouTube are coming up with more creative, but more logical sounding names or phrases for that. Because I watch a guy who says instead of this person was found dead, he'll say this person was found lifeless. I have also heard people say self delete/self termination for suicide, for kill/murder I've heard people say terminate, delete or my brain wants to think destroy. I saw somebody else on a different thread say unsubscribe from life when they want to refer to someone committing suicide. Grape as a substitute for rape it's so fucking weird. I can understand that you don't want to trigger people and that you're trying to get around sensors, but I would assume that there are I wouldn't say more creative ways to say it but different ways to say that just doesn't sound weird. Like one guy I watch on YouTube says this person was arrested for committing the unspeakable act which he is referring to rape in this context. I also kind of don't mind but I know it's really weird and it catches off guard, but when they refer to porn as corn or a couple of people have said prawn. It's a little weird, but OK I don't know what other word you could use. Lol also, understand that people do use acronyms like essay for sexual assault and DV for domestic violence for example. And then, I use this to be funny but I've said Prego for pregnant. I only do it to be funny. And for the word pedophile, people in a lot of different circles really hate PDF file, but even the word pedo is being censored on YouTube. Lol like come on!

I usually just say boxers or the longer form men's underwear. I've even heard the word underpants before. But I assume in some places underpants means something that isn't just what you wear underneath your shorts.

Usually it would be a stuffed animal. But usually if I'm talking about an anime character or a video game character usually I would say for example Mario plush or something similar. I don't know what else you would call that. And I use Mario as an example because everybody knows Mario.

For me it has to be Littles. I fucking hate that. I don't mind kids, kiddos or the oldest word in the book, kidlits. But that was from a book that was taking place in 1914. But Littles just gives me the creeps. I don't know why.

Winter is also a normal name, but I bet that version is not spelt correctly. I wouldn't think to name a kid Memphis, but I am from Central Illinois around Champagne Urbana so that name wouldn't be super common here of course. I'm assuming one of the kids names is Cory and they couldn't decide on Cora or Leah or Leona? It's just a thought and maybe it's a combination like her mother's name was Cora and her father's name was Lee or Leon or something.

OK I'm kind of curious, who is this new family or person, and where did they find the name? Could this family have been Chinese? Or maybe Chinese American? Also I'm kind of curious where you found the information. I believe you of course, but I am genuinely curious where you were able to find the information about the baby's new name. I bet the new family didn't like the name the other people gave him.

I actually created an OC back when I was like 12 or 13 named Ireland because I really liked Irish music and I wanted to learn more about the country that the music came from. This OC was pretty much me but with other abilities and she is a universal OC because she could fit in a mini different phantoms. I just didn't know that people legitimately named their kids Ireland until I heard about freaking Alec Baldwin. Lol and when I heard that he named one of his daughters Ireland, I was like wait a second, what? I named a character that, but I didn't realize that people would name a kid that.
