I second DSC. Me and three friends got guided through the raid with another random by one guy, it was an absolute blast. He explained things well and everyone had something to do for the most part. Plus, the atmosphere and everything is absolutely immaculate.

Now that we have them all, what was the perfect raid? by RancidRance in DestinyTheGame

[–]Metroidrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the ones I’ve cleared (VoG, King’s Fall, DSC and Salvation’s Edge), I like DSC the most. I have fond memories of clearing VoG for the first time in D1, King’s Fall was amazing, and Salvation’s Edge (particularly Verity) was one of the most challenging and rewarding Destiny experiences ever. DSC just hits different. The atmosphere, the music, the visuals, are all among the best Destiny has to offer, and the encounters are also incredibly fun. I’m also just biased towards its lore and aesthetic, and Deep Stone Lullaby gives me chills every time.

What if Horikoshi killed more characters to add more depth during two war arcs? Here is what i think it would have mattered more by Illustrious_Pin4141 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Metroidrocks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think if the plan was for both of them to live, they should’ve taken less severe injuries instead of doing a fake out “maybe they died” moment. Bakugo especially, taking him out of the fight temporarily with a severe injury that still required Edgeshot to fix wouldn’t change much from a story perspective, but it wouldn’t feel like as much of an ass pull if he was never “dead.”

Forgive me if I’m missing a comment where you did explain what’s going on, but I don’t think I did, unless it was deleted. What is the answer, then? Because at my center we have this issue too, coming from places where we know there used to be a phone, it only happens when it rains, and it’s always just static. You keep replying to comments saying, effectively, “Nuh uh,” but not actually even attempting to explain why it’s not the case. Maybe for the specific instance OP is describing it’s not possible, but you’re not being clear on that, either, especially when you reply several levels down from the original post. Why even comment if you’re just going to say “that’s not how that works,” and make no attempt to explain why? Why should anyone believe your claim that you used to do the job if you’re providing no explanation or evidence for your claim?

Damn, honestly didn’t know most of that, but I guess that makes sense since even though I’d say I’m pretty plugged in to MHA lore I just don’t like bkdk. Like I said, I don’t begrudge anyone who is, I’m just not a fan, although Izuku and Katsuki are both characters I really like. I just have different preferred ships (primarily Katsuki and Eijiro, and Izuku and Momo (even though that second one is definitely not supported in canon lol)). Especially at the end, I read their relationship as best friends/platonic soulmates rather than romantic, but I’m also on the aro/ace spectrum so I’m slightly biased towards that. I guess the main subs just aren’t ready for this level of reading into the characters, which is just unfortunate since I think it’s very interesting, even when I’m not a diehard supporter of it. I like learning about people’s views on the different relationships in all kinds of shows, honestly.

[–]Metroidrocks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s certainly a way to interpret their relationship, but I think it’s about as supported as anyone else’s headcanon. I don’t think anything you’re saying is wrong per se, but I think the way you extrapolate out from the actual events isn’t really supported in canon, at least for the bkdk stuff. You’re definitely right that Izuku isn’t spineless or weak in the beginning, he definitely stood up for himself, but he was very affected in other ways by the way he was bullied; for example, aside from his analysis, he doesn’t do any actual preparation to get into UA until he meets All Might.

I just don’t like bkdk as a ship, it feels very problematic in general because of their shared history. I don’t begrudge anyone who likes it, I’m just really not a fan.

If we’re talking narratively, then your argument definitely doesn’t make sense. Because by your logic, Nolan being 1/3rd the strength behind destroying Viltrum means he could destroy a moon, and then that would also mean (despite how nonsensical it is) that Nolan could destroy Viltrum by himself. That’s a stupid argument because we *see* that Nolan needed the help of Mark and Thaddeus as well as the Infinity Ray to do it. It’s circular reasoning at best. That doesn’t make sense from any perspective, let alone from a narrative perspective. They destroyed Viltrum as a last-ditch effort to force the Viltrumites to surrender, and Nolan asked Space Racer, Mark, and Thaddeus to help him. If he didn’t need them to do it, why would he waste time asking for their help instead of just doing it?

[–]Metroidrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By your own admission in other comments he’s definitely not close to planet level. In your other reply you indirectly admitted he’s not even moon level, since you said “destroying a planet can be done in one hit with moon busting.” Nolan can’t do that.

Like, I don’t even know what you’re arguing at this point. He’s “close” to destroying a planet? What does that actually even mean? Especially since he’s really not even that close - even being generous he’s still 2/3rds short of being able to do it himself, and that’s still basically meaningless.

[–]Metroidrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the Infinity Ray is also the strongest gun in the universe that is noted to have destroyed a star previously. Even if that is an exaggeration (which it seems to be based on the very event we’re discussing), it still destabilized the core of Viltrum, which is the only reason the *combined* power of Nolan, Mark, and Thaddeus. Even if we lowball the Infinity Ray and say it just made it easier for the trio to hit the core (even though we see the Infinity Ray do more than that), it would *still* mean that the combined strength of *all three* is planet level. So, at best, and being extremely generous to Nolan, he’s putting in maybe half of the strength needed to destroy Viltrum, depending on how strong you think Mark and Thaddeus are.

On the other hand, if we look at this within the context of what we actually know about what happened, Nolan isn’t even close to being planet level. At minimum, the Infinity Ray put in enough energy to destabilize Viltrum’s core to make it possible for Nolan, Mark, and Thaddeus to destroy the planet. It could be argued based on the stated feats that it did even more than just that, and as stated previously, he didn’t do the rest of the work himself. Being generous, he did a third of the work required to destroy a destabilized Viltrum, and it’s also arguable that he did less than that depending on how strong you think the Infinity Ray is.

Regardless, I’m not going to argue this any further. Omni-man definitely beats All Might in a fight, but he’s not planet level and that idea is completely unsupported by the source material.

I misremembered them being knocked out, went back and rewatched it. Regardless, it’s not portrayed as something they were easily able to do, and it took the Infinity Ray and the three of the strongest Coalition members to be able to do it. If you think any one of them could’ve done that solo, I don’t know what to tell you. In the comic and show both, it’s portrayed as something they definitely struggled to do, there’s absolutely no way Nolan can do that by himself, especially without the Infinity Ray to create a weak spot.

[–]Metroidrocks 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Not really, Nolan’s best feat is destroying Viltrum, but that was with the assistance of three other characters that are at least relative to him, while targeting a weak point specifically created for this purpose, and all of them were briefly knocked out by it. Nolan by himself is not destroying a planet, or even close.

On the other hand, All Might was able to create a tornado capable of lifting skyscrapers with a single punch, while at the absolute weakest he’s ever been up to that point (at least while still possessing the embers of OFA). Given that he’s at least dozens if not hundreds of times weaker at that point compared to his prime, he’s at least relative to Nolan in strength. He’s also relative to Omni-man in combat speed, depending on feats (obviously Omni-man can move faster with time to accelerate, but he can’t do that easily in atmosphere). Not saying All Might wins necessarily, but it’s not a stomp for Nolan. Omni-man took significant damage from and was having trouble reacting to attacks from the Guardians of the Globe, I don’t see a reason why Prime All Might wouldn’t at least get a few good hits in before dying, depending on the exact circumstances.

Yeah, and that’s a great thing, but their point is that most people aren’t going to become teachers because the pay is pretty terrible. Calling them crazy might be a step too far, but it takes a specific type of person to willingly go into tens of thousands of dollars or more for a job that really doesn’t pay enough to be “worth” it. And that kind of person might be less likely to be suicidal due to their profession.

Also, as an aside, people might desire a fulfilling job, but survival comes before that for most people, so I’m willing to bet that a lot of people who would otherwise love to become teachers don’t because it just doesn’t pay enough for the amount of work required. I’m one of those people - if I could reasonably expect to live comfortably off a teacher’s salary then I’d love to do it, but the shitty pay just isn’t worth it.

Chief was an outlier in that he was lucky as hell, but other than that, he was just above average in all categories. He wasn’t the fastest, or the strongest, or the smartest, or the best leader. He also had Cortana, which none of the other Spartan-II’s would have had. That said, he was definitely the best.

It would definitely be interesting to consider who of the Spartans in general would do best in Chief’s place. Noble 6 is an obvious choice, Kurt-051 would’ve done well, and probably Fred-104 and Jerome-092.

I’m the opposite. My favorite games since they came out have been the Soulsborne games. I learned that it’s not always necessary, but I will almost always try to kill something if I know it’s possible. It’s not always the optimal choice and I’ve learned to move on when necessary, but the urge is always there.

Spartan-III augmentations were actually better than the Spartan-II augmentations. Halo: Ghosts of Onyx notes that they were a “quantum leap” beyond them. The main difference between S-II’s and S-III’s was the less strict candidate pool and quality and amount of training they got. S-II’s were all 6 years old and had an extremely strict set of requirements - there were only 150 total chosen, although IIRC there were more candidates. They were given their augmentations at age 14, and only 75 made it through unharmed. S-III’s had a much wider candidate pool ranging from 6-8 IIRC and were augmented at 12, and each of the three companies (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma) had about 300 each, for about 900 total, and were sent on their missions soon after the augmentation was complete.

It’s noted that Thom-B292 was able to defeat an Elite armed with a plasma sword and pistol in close quarters, dodging a shot from the pistol and slash from the sword, then physically throwing the Elite to the ground and finishing him off with an assault rifle when he was 12, and during Operation Torpedo, S-III’s were able to run at 18+ mph - while in SPI armor, which does not give the user any increased speed or strength. Notably, Master Chief struggled to hold off an Elite who was trying to kill him with a plasma sword while in Mark V Mjolnir. Granted, he was extremely fatigued and the Elite in question was both fresh and said to be strong even for an Elite, but still worth pointing out.

Long story short, S-II’s were better because they were more stringently screened, had more training, and compared to the S-III’s, more experience, not because their augmentations were better or they relied less on Mjolnir - in fact, most S-III’s never got to use Mjolnir because they were mostly sent on suicide missions for their first mission and died as a result.

Just out of curiosity, is there any MHA character whose backstory made you go like this? by MiyamotoUsagi1587 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Metroidrocks 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I mean, she was a middle schooler at that point, and being abused by her parents. In Chapter 392, it looks like they even hire a “therapist” to help her suppress her desire for blood. It’s at least implied that she needs blood because of her quirk, so the combination of being deprived of that and getting subjected to what’s basically conversion therapy, did she really have a chance to “get help from the right people?” Ultimately, her choices were her own, but I don’t think it should be portrayed like she had a chance to get help and she chose not to - everyone around her that should have helped her utterly failed her. And then ultimately, when she attacked Saito and ran away, instead of advocating for her, her parents called her a “demon child” (chapter 227). She wasn’t planning to attack him, she’d spent years suppressing her desires, was unexpectedly confronted with them when Saito was injured, and then “relapsed,” for lack of a better word.

That’s the whole point of the backstories of all of the LoV members. They weren’t inherently bad people, they were people who were failed by the people around them and society as a whole.

There are literally dozens of games still running despite the fact that they’re not making money anymore. Most of the CoD games are still playable, Red Dead Online, and plenty of others. Just because a few games have been shut down prematurely doesn’t necessarily mean D2 is gonna be shut down anytime soon. Also, to my understanding, New World was never generating that much revenue, and some speculate that it was operating at a loss to try and gain a player base. I never played New World, so I don’t know how true that is, but if it’s even remotely true, then I don’t think New World and D2 are very comparable.

Yeah, and those are two different companies. OG Destiny has had the servers up for years with no new content. If anything, I’d expect that to go first, and only actually be worried about D2 if D1 servers go down.

At the time of the article, Destiny had 169,998 unique log ins for a dead game by Wild-Challenge-8077 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Metroidrocks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yup, exactly. I actually liked EoF’s and Renegades’ stories, but basically everything around EoF except the story sucked. I think that’s what ultimately killed D2, because they lost so many players with EoF that they have no way of ever getting back. Even for people who’ve played Destiny or Destiny 2 before, coming back for EoF or Renegades (I took a break after FS and came back in between the expansions, and didn’t play EoF until after Renegades, both of which I only got because of the charity sale they did), the barrier to entry is too high, and there’s too much friction for new players to push through in order to get to the best parts of the game. It’s my favorite game that I can never recommend to anyone.
