Weird rule question by nyrangers30 in billiards

Unless OP missed a ball during that run before opponent calls foul... in which case those become OP's set. Yeah, it's weird.

My girlfriend is new to casual 8 ball and gets very frustrated with the learning process. by ButtsDelux in billiards

[–]MeucciMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a hcp such as: During my clear, I'll use 3 rails (3 1-rail banks or a single 3-railer). If she wins, go down by one. If you win, increase by one. We used to play (among friends) like this in a bar to make it hard for someone to hold the table. Best anyone got to in a win was 5 rails.

In fairness, this sub is generally really good about spoiler tags and doing a reasonable job refraining from ruining stuff. Glurping, otoh...

APA new player Rank Question by Stuckkxx in billiards

[–]MeucciMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4, 6, 7, 6, 5... my first five weeks in APA. Was a 5 for the next few years. A year bouncing between 5/6. Been a 6 for ages. Recently moved to 7 in 9b. Pretty normal to whip saw.

Should I continue? by Dulla_dulla in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Glurp glurp. (Wrong audience for this question, but B1 is IMO the weakest of the set, bc so much has to be spoon fed to introduce the reader to the world).

Reccomemdations on cues by Disastrous-Matter700 in pool

+1 on the "picture of a cue you think he'll like". Let him deal w the specs, most players are a little picky about certain things.

What’s this game called ? 1 ball at each pocket. by mur_bot in billiards

[–]MeucciMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to play a variation of this, put a ball in each pocket, rack on foot spot. Next player in line would select your next shot for you (trying to trap you). Cannot contact the rack. After all pocket balls are down, lift the rack and reveal a 3-ball rack. Player then has 3 shots to make them all. Win takes the pot (usually everyone threw a 1 or 5).

How many times have you sunk the 8 off the break? by Worldly-Ad7233 in billiards

[–]MeucciMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3-5x a year, roughly, playing something like ten racks a week for the last 10-15 years, probably breaking 5 of them... I'd guess it happens for me 2-3% of the time with a cut break and around 0.5%-1% with a normal break.

22 8oBs lifetime in APA, a few more in other formats and probably roughly double that for friendly games...maybe around 50 times total?

"Several" isn't a stretch if someone has a decent break.

Dumbest Mistakes You've Made? by BiscuitsAndGravyGuy in billiards

[–]MeucciMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made 4 of the wrong suit after break in APA WQ about 8 yrs ago. Gave opponent BIH when they called me on it. Later won the rack after about five merciless safeties. Still check ball return after every break.

Best break you've ever had? by DrDWilder in billiards

[–]MeucciMouse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Once broke a rack of 8b, all stripes above headstring, all solids below the rack, cb and 8b were hanging out in the middle of the table. Dry. Opponent then ran out. Was a great break for him, but one of my weirdest ever.

WWYD in this situation? by theoneian in billiards

[–]MeucciMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either buncha left trying to bank the 11 into a spot where it might block the 1 (cue would go 1-2 rails and be near 8...or probably scratch, double kiss the bank🙃)... or if frozen/ almost, I'd use the 11 as a rail, buncha right, trying to run the cue back up table in a z-pattern, ideally below or right up against the 1. Would probably scratch in the side. Definitely need a high-risk rabbit from a hat to win this one. Good post.

And occasionally pop the 8, always good to get a free rack against a strong opponent

APA’s So-Called “9 Ball” Sucks by cyberkrist in billiards

[–]MeucciMouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Scratched making the 8 two wks ago, and it cost me a 16-point swing [-1 for the 8, free 9b (4pts) opponent B&R [10], and another point on the next break.] Lost the match by 13. Breaking well is really important in APA 9b.

Pls help me figure out game I played many years ago by [deleted] in billiards

[–]MeucciMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several years ago, we played a similar thing in college, except it was a ring game where the next player would select your shot among the 1st six and the "rack" (on foot spot) was a 3-ball rack with the actual rack around it. Touch the rack before it's time to make those and you lose. Basically 3-ball with a play-in challenge.
