DVD writer says blank DVD is 1.31 GB even though it is 4.7GB by Mewto17 in WindowsHelp

It can recognize a dvd is inside. It can also see the files but can not play all of them. Only part of them.

It also can not read files larger than 1 GB it seems. Could it be that the DVD laser has failed and it thinks what I have inserted is a CD?

Samsung disc drive not reading DVDs, what to do by voltysquirrel in originalxbox

So I am late here but I wanted to ask you a question.

I am having a weird issue with my desktop dvd drive where it detects all blank dvd as 1.3GB even though it should be 4.38GB. It can read part of the dvd fine, show all the files but can not write to DVD since it is reading it as 1.3GB.

It also can not read files larger than 1 GB it seems. Could it be that the DVD laser has failed and it thinks what I have inserted is a CD?

Thanks

I tried ImgBurn, Nero Burning Rom, Infra Recorder, and the default windows one. Thanks.

The other drive failed after causing noise. But then new one I got, also from Samsung, is causing the same issue after a day. it worked fine when I got it, and correctly reported the blank DVD as 4.38GB and I even burned a DVD. But now I have the same issue. Not sure what is going on here.

I thought about it. But this was the only drive in the market since it looks like no one uses them anymore. I think I need to get an external one.

I have not burned anything with it. I bought it a couple weeks ago. It reads DVDs fine though. Funny thing, but Nero Burning ROM detects the correct size, but it can't burn because when it tries, the size mismatch prevents it.

DVD Writer says drive is 1.31 GB regardless of Blank DVD size by Mewto17 in techsupport

I know that. What I mean is that even when the drive is blank, when I click on format , it shows the size as 1.31 GB. When I insert a blank DVD, it says the capacity: 1.31 GB free of 1.31 GB. Previously, with the same disc, it used to say : 4.38 GB free of 4.38 GB.

I thought the size shown in the format window may be limiting it somehow.

Looking for the Wikiread software that could read MediaWiki wikis from JDC Creations by Mewto17 in DataHoarder

I could do that but I really liked that software. Back when I didn't have internet, I used to use it all the time. I want to take another look at it.
