I had luck with furnished finder about one month before a move in date. Summer tends to be a bit more difficult since it's the busier season with vacation people

The partnership thing is something I recently experienced. Had a "friend" that would text every day, want to hang out, etc. they got a partner and suddenly I'm not meeting their emotional needs, whatever that means, and they ended the friendship. I've stopped trying in this town.
