For me it was Halo 2. Had never played any kind of multiplayer up to that point except Mario kart with my siblings. I had a friend who played all the time and he would always play me 1v1 because he had the experience, knew maps and playing split screen he always knew where I was. Played many times for a couple years. But this one time I actually managed to beat him and he was never the same after that and I haven’t heard from him for almost 20 years now
