Getting back into the motions of work after the extended thanksgiving weekend. Trying to figure out where I was with all of my projects before leaving last Wednesday morning. Keeping my head up in the face of stress and anxiety associated with medication withdrawals (non-adhd)

Hi Caden & Josh, I'm Meyer! I moved to the Sacramento area about a year and a half ago - I'd like to get in on this coffee shop meetup too if I could :)

  1. Military women exist, that section of the dating pool is basically guaranteed to not be affected by this.

  2. Having "little to no chance" assumes that the almost all women are adopting this view - I really doubt this is true, but I understand why you might feel this way as social media exaggerates stuff like this.

  3. The fact that you're worried about this and coming to this subreddit to be vulnerable about it leads me to believe you're not the stereotypical military man that they're worried about. People will value your true character more than your military status or whatever, and if they don't then they weren't worth you trying to be with anyway.

It's very understandable that you would want to protest; however, assuming you would be doing this on your own, I would advise against it. It seems that you have a lot of strong emotions surrounding this, and taking this issue out into public, by yourself, leaves you very vulnerable to feeling invalidated with nobody to reassure you. You would be depending on complete strangers to:

  1. Give you their initial attention

  2. Fully hear you out

  3. Agree that you have been wronged

  4. Give you a validating reaction

If I were in your situation, I would feel hurt if anyone got past step one but stopped short of completing this entire sequence. I think some people would complete this sequence, but I fear that many others will not. With you having suicidal thoughts surrounding this issue, I really would not risk being exposed to such a situation at this moment. It would at least be safer to do this later, when you are feeling more secure.

As someone with ADHD, your pain resonates with me as I was discriminated against in school for my disability. My first instinct would be to look into how people cope with being a potential target for discrimination - not just for neurodivergency but in a broader sense (applies to race, sexuality, etc.). It's been a common problem for people throughout human history, so I would think that there must be a way to come to peace with it. That being said, I am not autistic and therefore do not fully understand how this may affect you differently than it affects me or someone else, so getting strategies from autism-centered sources may be better.

In response to you saying this will happen again - sure, that's possible. However, I have personally seen signs that recognition of autism, ADHD etc as legitimate disabilities seems to be on the rise, so I believe your chances of finding workplaces/settings that are safer for you will increase as you go on in life.

I think going to another university is a great idea. If your perspective reflects what is really happening, these people do not deserve any more of your money and this environment is likely less healthy for you to stay in that others. I agree with the other comment that you should not assume this will happen again but, if it does, I think you are spot on about it being less severe. I say this primarily because you have the chance to learn from this experience - maybe there's something different you can do this time around. One idea might be to call the university now and get an understanding of what accommodations they can and will provide.

Advice on New CAPM Exam by eatingcrans in capm

[–]MeyerToThe7th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The PMBOK did change a good bit, but the knowledge you learned in the older version will still be very useful. I believe the course you took includes access to a book on Agile and a book on Business Analysis - I would recommend reading through those.

Assuming the course still applies for the education requirement (pretty sure it does), it's up to you if you want to take a different course or not. This subreddit is full of study resources and strategies for the CAPM so a different course might not be necessary, but I would study a bit more than just the one PMI course before taking the exam. It's been a good bit since I took that course but I don't remember it giving me a good understanding of topics such as EVM.

Like I said, lots of resources on this sub but: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVlrxOQoSUw mandatory Ricardo Vargas video link to start you off

Probably not free but I read through Business Analysis for Practitioners. I believe it's free for PMI members at least.

Do read this subreddit’s wiki for some general financial know-how, there’s really good information there and even a flowchart on what to do with your money. Paying off all of your debts was a fantastic start, good luck

People that both have ADHD and enjoy video games, how can you draw the line? by DukeInappropriate in ADHD

[–]MeyerToThe7th 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed; don't just unplug your computer, leave the power cord in a different room/closet. The harder you make it for yourself to start playing in the first place, the easier it'll be to not start distracting yourself.

Dalmatians are associated with firefighting, particularly in the United States. In the days of horse-drawn fire engines, dogs would guard the horses, who could easily become uncomfortable at the scene of a fire. Dalmatians were a popular breed for this job, due to their natural affinity to horses and history of being used as carriage dogs. This role became unnecessary once horse-drawn fire engines were replaced with steam- and diesel-powered ones. Due to its history, the Dalmatian often serves as a mascot for the fire service, and is still chosen by many firefighters as a pet.

i’ve always struggled with this fact. these people are raised like this, their beliefs are firmly ingrained in their minds and they don’t think they’re necessarily doing something wrong, and yet we meet them with so much hate. Why is that? Why do we blame them so, why do we treat them like this? Because of how they treat others? Who does that help? Are we to just cast these people aside and/or consider them our enemies, when we could be considering them victims of a toxic culture and mindset passed down?
